This is why I hate the University of Alabama:
5 seconds into the vid and i was already ready to slap that girl in the face
Thank God it's not University of SOUTH Alabama (that was the college I asked you guys advice about earlier this year). That place is awesome and actually has black people there, so you're more likely to get people who can actually rap. This is just another one of those dominant white, rich, preppy schools that are more about kegs than future success.
Getting my AS Level results in a few hours. I'm not nervous at all yet but I'm sure I will be as I open the envelope. Good luck to anyone else getting their results today!
Got my results for pretty much the equivalent of AS Level a few months back.
I wish you the best of luck!
Thank you! Not long now - going into school at 10.30. Still not feeling any nerves but I just feel sorry for some of the people getting their full A level results (which will determine whether they get into their chose universities or not).
Most of them have found out if they've got their place via UCAS Track (which confirms your place but not your actual grades) but one of my sister's friends can't get on the website. This is her second year of applying so she's pretty nervous and now she's just got to go into college to get her actual results and find out!
what the hell is "go greek"?
I believe "go greek" means to pledge to a fraternity or a sorority.
Also, that video.....
the first girl is hot...
The programming contest is over. I won round 3 and the grand prize! A perfect score for the third round would have been 225 points. I scored 206.22 which is good, but not the total domination I expected. The second place finisher scored 161.48 points.
Here's the breakdown of my score:
The first two test cases must have been really small. My program solved each of them in 4 milliseconds and only came in 6th or 7th place on those tests. Some other programs are said to have solved them in 0.000 milliseconds (less than 500 microseconds?) Once we got into the real tests, however, my program took over. On one large test my program finished in 24 milliseconds, almost 25 times faster than the second place finisher at 582 milliseconds.
For the grand prize scoring, they normalized the three rounds to be worth 100 points each. A perfect score would have been 300 for winning all three rounds. Here's the final tally:
So I'm off to San Francisco next month!
I was wondering if that contest was still going on.
Congrats, Stabguy! We're proud of you!
Great job, stab.
you beat them by that much?here, if anyone deserves this it's you
I love this show now.
Congratulations, stab! We all knew you'd win but still, well done
As for my AS Levels, I did quite well so am very pleased - sets me up well for A2s next year and for applying to some good universities
STAB STAB HES ARE MAN IF CAN'T DO IT NO ONE CAN!!!
( spawn refrence)
Congrats both Stab and Patrick!
Well done Patrick!! I'm getting my gcse results next thursday, feeling nervous
Thanks, Will And good luck with your GCSE results - I'm sure you'll have done fine. Are you planning on doing A levels next year?
Good job, Stab and Patrick! I'm currently busy with an introductory session for my university. Just came back from an exhausting weekend (lot's of beer), so we've got a few hours of free time. Next up are a shower, playing the piano (I really missed that) and taking a nap.
^This="that word"
In other news, I'm going to a debate competition this week, starting Tuesday and ending Thursday. I'm going against other clubs in schools but mostly against university students, and since it's my first time I think I'm pretty much gonna get my a** handed to me
Really looking forward to going back to college now. The summer holidays are getting really tedious and I just want to get on with my subjects so I can go to uni next year. When I'm at college I often want a holiday but having six weeks off makes me realise how much I enjoy it!
Thanks, Will And good luck with your GCSE results - I'm sure you'll have done fine. Are you planning on doing A levels next year?
Yeah, and cause I'm a number nerd I'm doing maths, further maths, physics and chemistry
Ah cool! I do Physics and Chemistry (applying for Chemistry at University) along with Biology, Religious Studies and General Studies. I regret not taking Maths (although I didn't enjoy it much at GCSE) as it means I can't apply for chemistry at Oxbridge, Durham and Bristol. My AS grades are good but I'm just missing Maths. In some ways, it may be a good thing as I don't enjoy pure maths as much as science-applied maths so I'd probably have disliked and worked badly at A Level Maths.
Not having Maths hasn't hindered my progress in Chemistry and Physics at A Level at all but I can understand why it's necessary for Chemistry at the top Universites. I was looking at more of a Biology route when I started so Maths seemed unnecessary but I could do with it now! Still, there's plenty of unis not requiring it so I have plenty of options available to me.
If you're good at Maths (and enjoy it as you clearly do) you should find Physics pretty easy and Chemistry quite straightforward too (although there's little maths in my course, just a lot to learn!).
Currently at the university. Studying Maths for the coming years.
I was very good at maths in this country's equivalent of A-levels and also pretty very good (yes, that's intentional) at Physics and pretty good at Chem. I even considered a double bachelor of Maths and Physics or Maths and Informatics.
i go back to school on the 30th oh how im not looking foward to this
I just can't wait to go back. People of my age would think this sounds stupid but I really do love learning, especially if it's science.
its not that i don't like learning its the people
Sorry, I wasn't suggesting that, EA17.
What are the people like then? Are they specifically horrible to you or are they just a bunch of dickheads like half the people at my college?
dickheads who have nothing better to do then debate about whos close were more expensive
Math sucks. History is the best subject, I've learned more from humanities courses in high school and college than anything else in my scholastic career.
i totally agree. i can't stand math that gets more complicated than + and -
but i love history, the Romans are my favorite
agreed math
axy = 564
2kx 4+ e x y= 8
you get that class
me: WTH!!!
Math and most Sciences are my worst subjects. I find science extremely interesting, but it's difficult for me to solve problems in required work.
Psychology and anything about the mind interests me, even though I didn't do too well last semester. Great teacher, but horrible ability to write out tests. Apparently test-taking is more important than being able to apply all my lessons into real life situations...?
History is great. I despise when people say "It already happened, why do I have to know every little event that ever occurred?"
It's not like we're meant to learn from our mistakes in our human history or anything. God help us if we have another Holocaust from not learning about the Nazis.
Studying The American Revolution, The History of the Wild West, and WWII were my favorite moments. There is so much to be learned from American History (I'm not saying our history is the best, just that there is so much to learn from its existence thus far).
the only thing i hate about learning history is that when we talk about it they never wanna bring up one of the worst times in the history of america ..... slavery..
I have an interest in most subjects but science appeals to me most. I'm quite good at maths but have never found it overly interesting but it is essential for studying science, especially Chemistry. I really enjoy Physics (including the maths in it) as the maths is applied to real-life and is more useful.
Humanities are still cool though - I enjoyed History and Geography at GCSE and I'm quite good at writing essays for A Level Religious Studies. My Ethics teacher will kill me if i tell her I'm planning to drop it next year - I got 100% on the exam!
the only thing i hate about learning history is that when we talk about it they never wanna bring up one of the worst times in the history of america ..... slavery..
They "never" bring it up at your school? That's pretty odd, since even at my extremely right-wing 98% white school, we watched the entire series of Roots after going to a play about the Underground Railroad at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. We continued learning about the beginning and end of American slavery. That took place all in a month or 2.
Now, this might be because our school administrators think of it differently. Your school most likely has more diversity than mine did. So by bringing it up in my schools, they assumed they wouldn't offend any black students who might feel strongly about it. And by not bringing it up in your school, they probably think that they won't hurt the feelings of their black students.
When it comes to racism, white people never seem to win. haha
well the reason might be because i live in DE the were a slavery state at the time aslo. and they try to brush it under the rug and make it it seem alright by saying "well people have been enslaved for hundreds of years"
he's still young though. maybe that's more of an older class subject
enough with the school post of epicness lets get back to the randomness
I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. The Black Belt. That was where slavery was at its absolute worst and we still had a whole unit about it in school when I was a kid. I refuse to believe there's an American School that doesn't teach its students about the period of slavery in America. Either you're not paying attention or they haven't taught it yet, probably the latter considering we didn't examine it at length until seventh grade (around your age).
maybe
I think I would have found history fascinating but I don't like the teachers of it at my school, soooo dull.
Science teachers on the other hand are awesome and it's fun. I'm also a similar to Patrick in that I actually like school and learning
Yeah History wasn't great in my school either. People who took it at A Level seem to enjoy it (especially the Russian unit) but at GCSE we did a lot about WWII and Life in Nazi Germany - the topics were decent but the way it was taught and the specific content (very political) was a bit dull. We also did British units on Liberal Reforms (yawn), Britain at War and Women's Suffrage. The latter unit was surprisingly interesting as I knew little about it compared to Britain at War, and, as expected, it came up on the exam.
I much prefer Ancient History (Egyptians, Romans, Medieval etc.) but these all seem to be taught at primary/early secondary school (with little detail), or not at all.
Maths is the best subject!
History has its good sides, but it's very boring to study. I like using a set of skills I've developed to delve deep into a problem, play around with the rules, see what is possible. That's why I study maths.
We continued learning about the beginning and end of American slavery.
I just recently learned that the first slaves arrived in Virginia in 1619. That's one year before the Mayflower! It blows me away that there were slaves in America before there were Pilgrims.
leaving the topic of slavesry; don't know if i've mentioned it before but the past few months i've been studying to be a welder
and today was a big exam.i've been worrying about that all week, had a little trouble but i passed.
Ah cool! Well done, Rob
So what exactly did you have to do in the exam and what are you going to do with your new skills?
Good job, Rob!
Found out the university had taken the sum I had to pay for the introduction from my bank account twice. Just made a call. Apparently, it's a common problem, so it'll be fixed soon, I hope.
I also spent a lot of money the past two weeks. Over 200 euro's cash and then almost 100 euro's for travelling. On top of that, I got a fine FOR NO GOOD FUCKING REASON of 40 euro's. Luckily, my "government pays you money"-period has started this month, so the impact is fairly low once I get all my payouts.
Everything in my administration is way off. Cash is done now, so I only have to fix my bank account statements. Yay for internet banking! ^_^
what was the fine for? and what the hell is a "government pays you money period"?
does everyone just get extra money for no apparent reason?
No, it's for all the extra crap I should be paying, like insurance and college. Luckily, I have awesome parents.
The fine was for not checking in, while I presumably could travel for free.
