I seriously hope they're not going to lure us in by making it seem like an older game only to pull a fast one and just make another RPG.
I bet they will. There's word of a skill tree and gear, but I don't know the extent of them.
There was a leaked screenshot and buzz about an exciting new feature: Investigations!
So new, in fact, that they were in AC Unity!
If they can make investigations affect the mission somehow, that would be a significant addition. If I learn that my target will be accompanied by a bodyguard, maybe I can locate that bodyguard and take him out before the mission.
Mirage is apparently Origins x Unity, what are your thoughts on this? I have nothing much to add, seeing as I've played neither.
The only RPG element is weapon levellling, which does give me some hope.

I've heard this too. I had fun with Origins, in that I could take out entire camps with stealth. Unity was one of the last AC games that seemed to care about the actual Creed with its story. A mix of these would be welcomed as long as they take out the janky Unity parkour and mythological focus of the RPG games.
Hey DAZ... just wanted to tell you that I really enjoyed your youtube short on the "1000 hours of ACU" the other day ... very enjoyable watch.
Brothers. I know what must be done.
BURN IT DOWN
I haven't picked up Mirage yet. Almost did on Black Friday, but grabbed Jedi Survivor instead. Need to finish a second playthrough of that and Baldur's Gate 3, then next sale for Mirage and I'll grab it.

Jedi Survivor and Baldur's Gate 3 are great reasons to not play Mirage yet. I feel like it'll go back on sale sooner than later.
I've gotten Mirage now, but still stuck in Baldur's Gate 3.
Has anyone here played Lies of P? It looks something like Assassin's Creed Syndicate and I read somewhere that fans of AC would enjoy it.

I played a little of the demo. The game is pretty much a Pinnochio themed Dark Souls game. The visuals are Victorian London with life sized puppet enemies. I personally don't like it as much as Dark Souls.
Went on a little trip to Italy, wonderful place indeed.
Lucky. I still need a passport to go there.
You don't have a passport?
I have a big trip coming up. Not sure if there's enough interest for another "Where in the World is stabguy?"
It would certainly shake things up a bit!
Where in the world was stabguy?
I haven't left yet. If I did a game here, would you play?
This week I accidentally threw my wallet into the kitchen trash can without ever realizing it. Things got even dicier when stabgal took the kitchen trash out to the garbage bin which I then rolled out to the street to be picked up early the next morning.
That evening, as my wallet sat out by the curb, I realized it was missing and searched all the primary locations where it normally might be. As I lay in bed that night unable to get to sleep, what turned out to be a good idea struck me. I got out of bed, went to the curb, and removed the most recent trash bag from the bin. It was too dark to search it and there were still some good secondary locations to check (e.g. under the couch cushions), but I wanted to preserve the option to search the trash if it came to that.
The next morning I tore apart the couch and so on, and then went outside to dig through garbage. It wasn't that bad. The wallet was practically at the top of the bag.
I feel foolish for throwing away my wallet but the "nice save" partially makes up for it.
An interview with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot:

One part that stood out is a talk about remaking some of the older ACs:
"On the Assassin's Creed front, we've had Mirage, which was a leaner homage to the series' roots, and now Shadows, which is much larger in scope and more in the vein of Odyssey/Valhalla. Looking at the future, can we expect this continued variety? Smaller games alongside bigger ones?"
YG9.: "Firstly, players can be excited about some remakes, which will allow us to revisit some of the games we've created in the past and modernize them; there are worlds in some of our older Assassin's Creed games that are still extremely rich. Secondly, to answer your question, there will be plenty of experience variety. The goal is to have Assassin's Creed games come out more regularly, but not for it to be the same experience every year. There are a lot of good things to come, including Assassin's Creed Hexe, which we've announced, which is going to be a very different game from Assassin's Creed Shadows. We're going to surprise people, I think."
Oh boy, I'm not sure about that. The originals are already beloved so what exactly can remakes do besides potentially ruin the franchise even more? I'd be more for HD remasters that also more content.
I haven't left yet. If I did a game here, would you play?
Thought it had been way too long. Sure, I'll play.
Nice catch with the garbage!
Is Valhalla worth playing? Might buy the collection on steam and replay them. Something like 14 games for $90
Depends on how you feel about a Viking style AC game. I didn't like doing the main story, so I focused on killing these assigned targets. Problem is some were too high level for me, so at some point I had to do the main story. Shortly after I got bored and stopped playing. Valhalla is the only game in the series I have not beaten.
Honestly, I mostly find/found these games interesting for the global story they started telling and not necessarily the gameplay loops in the digital world. That's not to say that they haven't been fun. If there is enough lore on Assassins vs Templars or Those Who Came Before, etc, then I'd like to experience it. I absolutely hate the RPG direction of the franchise replacing the action adventure style of the earlier games though.

This sounds like something I would do.

I would like a remake of AC1, although I feel like they'd just reskin Mirage. They should take a page from the Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus remakes and just have another studio recreate their original game, simply with better lighting, models, faster load times, etc. Changing some buildings to be a bit more accurate would be a welcome addition as well.
AC1 is looked down upon so much by many people, including Ubisoft themselves. It deserves a new coat of paint. I've also been waiting for the Knights of the Old Republic remake for years now, and that was actually announced!
AC: Mirage looks more my speed. Maybe I'll just skip to that. Any story things to know if I do this?
Mirage Question: do you get enough skill points to unlock everything?
Mirage Question: do you get enough skill points to unlock everything?
Yup, but it takes a full playthrough to unlock every skill, and some skill points are tied to a few side activities instead of objectives in the main story. I don't mind it, but it can bother those who want the story and the skill point grind to be completely separate.
Perfect. I don't mind that since I plan to 100% anyway. Also, it looks like no penalty to re-spec at any time? So I won't be locked out from anything.
Played for 3.5 hours so far. Almost to the bureau for first time. Already did some side things and puzzles. Very first thing I found was a room under a lake with lots of first civ barriers and weapons behind them.

I agree the Demon's Souls remake is a good example (this is coming from someone who played both the original and remake). My main concern with a remake would have been Ubisoft neglecting ACs unique features (parkour, social stealth, combat) for RPG elements that ruined the last games, but another studio could actually remain faithful to the original feel of the game.
Doesn't need to be said but missions could certainly use some work.
No winners yet.
