Ugh, it's way to early for me. Drank quite a bit last night, broke a microwave. Seems like I have to pay (at least, that's what I'm anticipating and offering). >.>

i'm against the death penalty as well, but not because of some higher belief.
simply because i know people can make mistakes even in investigations.

if the person is thrown in jail, and a few years later they find something that reveals they were innocent, the person can be released and return to his/her life again.

but in the same scenario, if the person is killed instead, then what? then you can't do anything to fix the mistake.

Yeah, it's extremely flawed. It might be a good idea to keep them in prison just in case. And using execution to make more room for more inmates doesn't really sound like a justifiable idea. A lot of people in there are there for lesser things, like (looks up something found yesterday) a black man stole $100 and got 15 years. Not $10,000 or even $1,000. I'd only give him a week in prison. Hell, maybe just a night in jail. Crimes like that really just deserve a slap on the wrist. I just don't get it sometimes. Maybe there are too many laws. At least, too specific.

Did anyone else notice the new option to edit your videos on youtube? It looks kind of cool. You can stabilize the video, or trim it, or give it effects. Thing is if the video has over a thousand views or if it has a content ID match you have to save it as a new video and will lose all the views on it. Sad I'm thinking of doing this on my video with the Doge's palace (Palazzo Ducale).

Yes, I deleted it. It was completely counter-productive.

I'd like to ask everyone to think about this motto: "Become the change you wish to see".

I love that THB is serious about maintaining polite and civilised discussions; it makes this site a true refuge. I'm glad that members are proactive about requesting civility from disruptive users. It's healthy.

OTOH, how you make those requests has become an issue for me. Posting a link to an image which says "STFU and GTFO" or an image that implies that someone is a "faggot" is only inflaming the issue; using the same behaviour that you are criticising. It's not helpful and certainly not productive.

You have other options: ignore the disruptive person and/or complain to me. If you wish to correct a user yourself, by all means do so, just try doing it politely instead of escalating to flaming as a first (or second) response.

Become the change you wish to see.

Anyone seen any of 'Fry's Planet Word'? It's a really interesting programme that takes a look at language and how it has developed in different times and different cultures. In the first episode, Stephen Fry looked at how children learn to communicate and how different languages develop (including sign languages and Klingon!), and in the second one he explored more unusual languages that are at risk of dying out such as Irish (Gaelic), Basque and Occitan. Next week the programme investigates the use of profanity and insults in human communication.

I urge anyone with access to BBC iPlayer/BBC TV to have a look. It;s really interesting stuff! Smile

@ROB Could you explain what it is? Seems like something from My Little Pony but I'm not sure.

We have BBC iPlayer which is a website to catch up on BBC programmes but I believe it is restricted to the UK because the BBC is funded by the taxpayer.

The first episode is on Youtube (at least for now). Part 1 is available here. I hope the videos are watchable in Panama, James. The Youtube user will hopefully put up the second episode too at some point - he seems a bit of a Fry fan! Smile

*choosing words carefully and wisely* I do not think Rob_88 hates you, FLAE. He might think you are starting to go down the wrong path. When people got annoyed at Subject 18 that's when the trouble started (although that's not what got him banned), and now people are starting to find some of the responses to Doomkiller offensive. So saying that these inappropriate responses are okay is like saying that Subject 18 was right to make all those grammar corrections. So what I'm basically trying to say is...

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which

Speaking of that, my Art History is currently going over the Gothic Period and the Crusades. I saw a familiar looking cathedral type (looked almost exactly like the one from Acre in AC1). A few weeks ago, we were going over Ancient Constantinople and my professor mentioned Greek Fire (from the E3 ACR demo).

She asked the class, "Does anyone know about Greek Fire?" She spotted me nodding my head, asked me what it was, and still sleepy from the late night before, all I blabbered was, "A...machine that shoots...fire...". Caused a bit of laughter in the class, then she went on about the grenade type of Greek Fire. I pulled up an online picture of the "machine" I was talking about from Wikipedia (first result). All were impressed with my genius range...ok, the people I knew were, but that's close enough.

There's a book by Steve Berry, "The Venetian Betrayal", that centers around the rediscovery of the formula for greek fire and how a new world dictator is planning to use it combined with germ warfare to expand her empire. Greek Fire is incredibly impressive, especially because it was so chemically advanced, there was really nothing that could be done to stop it.
