Assassin's Creed Syndicate

"Mark Nearest Known Collectible"

One of my favorite reasons for running around and picking up all the collectibles is that despite the misgivings some people might have, Assassin's Creed just makes it fun to move through the game world. Collectibles give that movement a kind of Purpose without needing to be separated out into actual missions. This allows me to go into a super meditative, Zen-y flow-state that I don't really get much from other games. My feeling of flow, however, and that of many others could be way better.

reverse progression DLC

so usually in AC games DLC is used as a way to give the players extra goodies and items after the main game is done.

Learning Through Doing

After taking a look at Syndicate's fairly standard upgrade system, it started to make me think about what it was trying to represent.

Syndicate takes place over the course of a year, and its protagonists are already shown to be accomplished assassins from the start. The fact that things like double assasinations must be unlocked from a context-free menu rubs me the wrong way, worse than it did with Arno, who was acknowledged as a rookie from the start.

Framerate

If you play AC on PC go to the bottom of this post

I personally think there is nothing but benefit to targeting a locked 60FPS on console in AC games. Players would have a greater awareness of their surrounding and the actions of enemies within them, which would allow for things like fights to be tuned to a faster pace.

kind of spoilers thread

just wanted to make this thread cause there's not really a place to say, but I'm happy with the approach they took for the TWCB side content. It allows the Juno story to be told in more detail without the worry of ruining the pacing of the main path.

master of disguise

So we play as a character that needs to be able to run all around the city and cause havoc and get in chases and such, but also generally is able to live a fairly normal life on the side, without being recognized all the time. It would make sense if they took more steps to obscure their identity than a hood.

In fact, it would make sense if they chose to forgo wearing a hood at all, and relied instead on altering their features through makeup and accessories.

this looks fun

EDIT:

I will stick to my promise. I'll just watch a twitch streamer I like play it. But I like Jacob and Evie and the general tone and tutorialization of the game.

just a map

So people are bored of unlocking the map by climbing towers, which partially exists because the map reveals all game content on it. What about just having a map that is only a map and nothing more?

You can use it to navigate the city but there are no objective icons on it at all. (so, different from the AC1 map)
And just for fun it's an in-world object that you hold in your hands and the camera zooms in over your shoulder when you press the map button. (the overlaid UI like player-set waypoints and player location can be explained as being eagle vision)

the one thing that bothers me about syndicate's detection UI

So hey, syndicate took the localized directional detection representation of Unity and made it more readable and clear. Cool! But the main weird thing about a circle that's ostensibly wrapped around your character is when it doesn't actually wrap around! Obviously you want the player to be able to see indicators that are between the character and them and would be blocked by LoS if the detection ring was a grounded physical object in the world.
