Ah, man.
I'm reading The Road by Cormac McCarthy right now. Almost at the end. I also have an essay to write on religious overtones in dystopian literature (having some fun planning that out.) I'm just not sure what I should do after that haha. I let my friend borrow my PS3 so she can play Ni No Kuni (she got it without owning the console -_-) and I'm taking it back near the end of October (for obvious reasons.)
But until then it feels like there's just not much I can do. Well, university's starting soon, but I do miss the feeling of sitting down and playing a nice, immersive, open-world game in which I can climb things and find countless challenging, stealthy missions to undertake. Do you know what I mean?

Haven't had one of those since 2009!

Should I make a topic on possible ideas for a Connor sequel? Because I got a bunch but I haven't really had many good discussions on the matter.

Eh, I give AC2 a pass because it was a good game.
Go for it, man!
Well, I think that AC3 is the best of the series once I bring everything together (well, this might not be true, I'll do this at the end of the post). But that's mostly in terms of story and combat. Mission design is bad. Story presentation is bad.
Personally, I think they need to bring back information-gathering, but not like AC1. AC1 had the same things over and over for each assassination mission. I'm thinking more like, infiltrate a mansion to steal papers on Templar plans, go to a party to memorize guard posts. Eavesdropping is another obvious thing. Pickpocketing is good as well, but use it sparingly. Try to stay away from beat-up investigations though.
Yea, it might take a bit for me to get my ideas together. I did it before on the main AC forums, didn't really turn out as I hoped.
Onto my ratings for specific aspects of the AC series (going from best to worse for each category, according to the rank on the list, a certain amount of points are given)

Huh. I didn't expect AC3 to be that far ahead, but I didn't really do a legit rating scale. I just went by what position they got on my list.
There are two mistakes the developers made in AC1. The first and most important was the inclusion of the GPS. The moment you get that, you start going from waypoint to waypoint rather than learning the district and looking for information carefully, which is a very different experience for the different targets.
The second was unskippable cutscenes. Fuck those.
Quality of Side missions (this is hard because AC3 has both the best and the worst side missions in the series, in both gameplay and story) (gameplay):
ACB/AC2 - 4
AC3 - 3
ACR- 2
AC1- 1 (side missions: kill guards beating up innocent people)
Damn. I count finding and killing the 100 Templars in AC1 better than all the side content in ACR. What was there in ACR? Beat up Duccio? Renovate some shops?
In fact, finding and killing those 100 Templars in AC1, although the only real side content in the game - unless you do all investigations rather than the required few - was among the most satisfying side content in all the games. No direction. No restriction. It was just "There are 100 guys to kill. You have to find them. You have to kill them. Go."

There were only 60 Templars, but you still have a point; I thought Templar hunting was pretty awesome too. I even tried to do all of them stealthily. I might try that again.

oops
I thought Templar hunting was pretty awesome too. I even tried to do all of them stealthily. I might try that again.
Exactly. You could do them however you want. There are probably videos out there of guys that did all 60 stealthily/without the Templar seeing you/drawing his weapon. And if you want, you could make them chase you and get a group of them to fight.
So open ended. So satisfying, both to find them all, and to kill them all (however you wanted).
I count the Templars as collectibles.
Hey, you know what always confused me in AC1? How Altair broke the "hide in plain sight" rule. At first I thought it was because he called out to the Templars before he attempted to kill Robert, but Malik said he broke the 2nd tenet before that happened.
So I'm thinking that what we did in the tutorial beforehand, where we killed a guard, another guard came to investigate, and then we jumped to get their attention to run away, might be when Altair broke the second tenet. But I'm not really sure.

I take it you haven't seen Stab and Ian's Templar videos yet. They focused on killing the Templars stealthily. There were at least a few that seemed impossible to get without being seen, but Ian found some tricks to remedy that. The Templar in the northeastern part of Jerusalem wins the contest for the hardest to get while anonymous.
Looks like you could just go to the roof right above him, jump at the city wall, grab the ledge on the wall, and air assassinate.
I wish Assassin's Creed had a level editor or custom levels. I wish someone could tear into the code and rip it all out, remake it and make some kind of bootleg custom level engine. I'd have so much fun.
I am aware, I've seen both of their Templar videos. I was referring to the point that there might be an all 60 Templar Stealth compilation video by now. I don't know if there is or not.

You would think so, but the option to air assassinate doesn't appear from that wall for some reason. Stabguy found you could air kill him from a spot on a ladder, but he sees you right before the kill. Ian finally found a way by throwing citizens to bump him and make him face a different direction.
I did record a stealth kill where I lock onto a save citizen while starting to air assassinate from the ladder, but the video didn't quite work out because of some stunts on other Templars I was trying out and failing.
And as for a Templar stealth compilation, there isn't one that I'm aware of. Technically someone could just take all the previous video recordings and put them all in one video, but since there are sixty Templars each kill shouldn't be more than several seconds long.
You know how a lot of us were feeling bad about the fact that in AC3 guards are psychic during Chases and you can't escape conveniently without slaughtering an entire regiment?
I had an epiphany on the bus this morning and just realized that maybe Smoke Bombs are there for that purpose.
Yeah, it's a little 'cheap' that they'd make you use a Tool when in ACII Smoke Bombs were just a matter of convenience rather than necessity... But I mean, it's still there and that's something to think about.
And you wouldn't need that epiphany if they were introduced properly in the game.
I used them early and often, because I knew about them from previous games. I might have even used them as Haytham with the "kill X soldiers before they alert the others" mission in the back alleys.
Achilles probably introduced smoke bombs to us like he told us about the history of the Assassins.
That doesn't help the player, though. Connor knows about them, sure, but new players to the series that start at AC3 wouldn't know that smoke bombs were an option.
It even took ME a few months before I noticed they were in my weapon wheel.
never said it was a good design choice
I think he might've meant introduced in a gameplay sense; even a simple tooltip appearing on the right of the screen or something to highlight their existence. Or, more ideally, having you use them once to escape a chase quickly. I'd guess they'd be useful for speedruns though, my god.
Unrelated and Off-Topic (this isn't really an On-Topic topic to begin with but y'know what I mean)
I never realized how much effort goes into making a game until I started making a visual novel for my friend's birthday. It's so routine and cool-feeling though. All assets go into the 'assets' folder. All assets should be prepped IN the assets folder before moving into the 'game' folder. All Character art must have background Transparency and all backgrounds must be of proper resolution. All of this stuff, is what goes on in my brain every few minutes.
It's lots of fun, too.
there's a bunch of computer geniuses in here, right.
might anyone be able to help me with a recurring problem i keep having with the sound?
this laptop is only about a year old. and most of the time the sound works fine
but then comes those times when it doesn't work.
right now, the Steam message sound only comes on half the time.
youtube videos work a little, i have to fiddle around, clicking on different spots on the time-line to make it re-load a chunk in order to get it to work right.
the sound that pops up when opening a file-folder work mostly
but listening to music files or watching movies is impossible, no sound at all.
games don't play any sound either.
sometimes a few months go by without it happening at all. sometimes it happens several times in the same week.
and the only fix i know is to reboot my computer.
can anyone tell me what's wrong?
Try updating the drivers for your sound card. You can do this by going into the control panel and then hardware.
i did that.
even got a message saying all drivers are fully updated.
and now, just 2 days later, it happened again

Okay, so one of the teachers at my university is Italian and teaches in English, but with a pretty heavy accent.
Instant Ezio-memories.
Well, my teacher's Italian accent made me want to play AC2 again, so here goes. I've decided I'll try Eagle's Bruise this time, but apart from that, anyone got any ideas/suggestions what would be fun to do?
Kill each target by dropping them from a roof.
Kill each target by dropping them from a roof.
That was short and sweet and friggin' visceral. I love it so much. Ignore my strangeness. I just came back from pub night with nachos at my university. I went for the nachos. Nachos at pubs are absolutely lovely. I drank for a purpose; I'm doing research because two characters in a novel of mine get drunk. Really, I'm serious. Damn good nachos though. I wish Assassin's Creed IV was out. I'd love to play that game. It would be so wonderful and immersive. I love rogues. It'd be cool to be a rogue - but alas, that's breaking the law and contextual agency limits my mind to doing things that don't break laws. Sassy Creed pl0x. Aw yiss. God, I'm tired. I love you guys. TheHiddenBlade bruh. Shinggggggg. aw yeh
The two posts above this one are epic in their epic-ness. Ooops, I mean "that word" in their "that word-ness".

I follow the girl that posted the Assassin pictures of herself. Her posts are brilliant.
Hearty thanks, McStab! That was hilarious!
McStab, I'll return the favor.
Oh my god, Assassin's Creed Transcribed.
I have a story about this blog.
Okay so a year ago, a friend of mine had broken up with his girlfriend and the girl he was in love with wasn't returning his affections so he was really sad. So me, him and two other friends got into a Skype call to try to get some order out of the chaotic mess all of this had become. HOWEVER.
In the middle of the Skype call, I had been browsing through Tumblr and found this interesting blog called Assassin's Creed Transcribed! And I said to myself, "Surely browsing this blog while listening to my friend vent about his sorrow won't be a problem, right!?"
Ohhh mannnn.
I go on this blog, I start reading, scrolling and now I'm having trouble stopping myself from laughing. So I snicker once in a while, but thankfully it's when my other friends are saying mostly innocuous things and never during anything serious. However, as time goes on I start laughing harder. At some point, everyone stops talking, just listening to me laugh. I laugh harder. I start laughing harder. Eventually, I start laughing so hard that I start CRYING. I literally start crying, and I can feel the actual tears. Like, there are WARM TEARS coming out of my FACE and I'm CRYING at this Assassin's Creed blog because Al Mualim hates child support, apparently. URGHHHH GODDDD!
I love AC Transcribed. One of my favorite places for humor on the internet.
EDIT: I just recorded a video of myself LAUGHING at ACTranscribed's 'molto bene' tag. This is a stupid idea. Uploading it anyway.

I am surprised that there is no Mods for those games.
Like, play as Ezio in AC1 with two hidden blades and all. Or make the missions harder to stealth putting more elements. etc.
There are a few mods for AC1 on pc. Different colored outfits for Altair and I think a nighttime mod. But it deserves way more than that.
Yeah... way, way more. Not just cosmetic changes, but more gameplay changes as well.
Or even, mods that remove the scripts on the assassinations in Brotherhood and Revelations and make them more akin with AC1 and AC2.
If you could mod AC1, what kind of mods you would make?
Randomized investigations and cutscene skips is the main thing.
I would put assassinations contracts like in AC2.
Talk to the rafiq on a city to look for some targets. \o
I've been playing a lot of Persona 4 Arena, BlazBlue and Mortal Kombat 9. Some INJUSTICE in there too.
I main Sub-Zero in MK9 btw. DISCLAIMER: I don't have a capture card. I IZ SORRY.

I wish there was an Assassin's Creed fighting game...
Just fight Ezio vs Ezio in Soul Calibur V and make yourself believe you are fighting Altair.

Genius <3
If you could mod AC1, what kind of mods you would make?
The thing about mods is you make them independent of anything in the game. I would sooner make things based off whats already programmed in there. In one of the dev diaries for AC1 there was talk of another AC game being made simultaneously which has since not seen the light of day. I don't know about any of you, but that certainly peaks my interest. Another thing I just recently read online is they were planning to make AC1 coop, but that idea got scrapped because it was proving too complicated.
http://www.gamespot.com//news/assassins-creed-cut-its-ambitious-co-op-mo...?
So there might be some good stuff there still in the programming. And based on my knowledge of hidden game mechanics and stuff I have some ideas I'd like to see put into play.
"Our Creed does not command us to be Free - It commands us to be Wise."

This quote is essentially the Assassin's Creed version of 'with great power comes great responsibility.' Yes, anyone can use the Creed to fulfill whatever personal goal they have because it involves breaking down boundaries and barriers. However, what this quote seeks to clarify is that not all of those boundaries or barriers should be broken - after all, a lot of them are there for a reason. Just because the Assassins have all of this mental clarity and freedom, doesn't mean that they should do whatever they want with it. It's the ability to act with discretion, out of a rule system that doesn't force you to be discreet, that makes the Assassins who they are.
