no, not really.
we don't celebrate Halloween here.
by that i mean, the stores have been trying to introduce it for years, and maybe some bars do costume parties ro something. but it's never really caught on
Hey guys. I have a question for you all : do you have a passion for something ? A hobby that you fell in love with at a young age and still practice today, or a pastime that immerses you and makes you lose track of time when you do it, something you know everything about without even trying because it is never a bother to you to get information on the subject, etc. Something along those lines.
Lucid dreaming, fingertricks (pen spinning, card tricks, Rubik's cube), bodyweight strength training, regular strength training, mathematics...
Oh, and yeah, Assassin's Creed!
Tons of stuff, really.
just tried the demo for the new Xcom game
i gotta get this
Question: if i buy a game in physical copy, will it still be Steam enabled?
In case you hadn't noticed, DAZ's front page article has gone viral. It has been linked from several other gaming sites and some readers have created accounts here just to comment on it. Of all things, the part that's getting the most attention is whether or not Connor can kill civilians. When DAZ reported you couldn't it sparked an internet rumor. People must love killing those civilians! When he backtracked a little by saying you can target them it was like, "Crisis averted! You can kill civilians again."
Congratulations, DAZ.
Oh my god, thank you guys! I actually have tears in my eyes. Viral.. Wow..

Where is the facepalm emoticon when you need it!?
It's funny because I wish that you were unable to kill civilians. I was killing them all over the damn place by accident and kept screwing up my missions.
You now do all of your interacting with the button, but I'm so used to pressing to talk to people. Now is your secondary weapon. I kept running up to contacts and blowing the head off a nearby civilian by accident.

That's fucking fantastic.
Hey guys I'm back. Really been away from the forum, a bit from Xbox Live and even from my regulart Internet in the past few months. I got into a school project which helps students establish their own business with professional guidance. The different bussinesses then are measured against each other with other schools who also participate, and the group that gest the first place among then is given a startup capital and contacts to continue with their business even after the project is over. The program lasts 3 months and is almost about over, so I've been working real hard for my group to get the first place.
So, what have I missed? I need to read a lot of threads, so can anybody give me a repac on the biggest events on the site? How's everybody doing? Did FLAE come back from his self-imposed exile yet?
1. Me and Asaic got AC3 early, I wrote about it a lot. According to stabguy, I went viral with it and I also posted it everywhere, attracting a few people to this site. I would have liked to see more AC lovers discover us (because I don't wanna say we're the best AC site but.. We're the best AC site).
2. We got a few new members and so far I think they're all pretty nice people. Have fun meeting them
3. I kinda wanna replay the entire series now. *heart breaks from nostalgia*
I wonder what it would be like finishing AC3 and replaying AC1 immediately after, knowing exactly how everything is going to go down.
I've started and I'm picking up on so many references and foreshadowing that I thought nothing of before.
In case you hadn't noticed
actually i had not noticed.
my bookmark sends me straight to the forum, so i hardly ever check the frontpage.
you all know my opinion of the AC series lately has be 'meh' and i had figured that would continue.
i have not read the whole article yet (it's freaking huge and i'm tired) but the parts i have read, convinced me to not be bitter and judge it prematurely
i thank you for that
Pty James, I'm new along with...maybe McStab and Methodical Assassin? I'm also winning, can I keep it up for 24 hours??
It's good to be a sports fan in the San Francisco Bay Area (except for cycling).
As long as you know everyone's doping, it's okay to be a cycling fan.
How can there be a competitive edge if everyone is doing it?
Same with steroids in baseball... no edge if everyone's on the juice.
Thanks, Cheese. I still love cycling. But I hate doping with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. So I'm heartbroken, yet at the same time glad that the truth is being established. Especially about Lance who should have been such an example to cancer survivors.
I agree. Lance is the reason people in the US (in my generation) care about cycling.
He still is an American hero/idol to me... Even if it is in a jingoistic "Anything you can do, Americans can do better ... including blood doping" sort of way.
The ultimate American... arrogant, prideful, refusal to give in... I kid, slightly. It is a sad time to be a cycling fan though. The one that gets me is George Hincapie. I love that guy.
I read that only one rider (not sure who) that was on the podium with Lance any of the 7 times has not been linked with doping... (yet). Any clue who that is?
The effects are being seen now though... power outputs on the mountain stages are down from 10 years ago... the sport is heading in the right direction.
They need doping in golf. I'd actually watch it for once.

They do... It's called Ben-Gay, Gold Bond and Icy-Hot.
(old people are old)
Also Deep Heat is another. Good stuff, feels awesome when you mess yourself up doing parkour
So I've thought about getting a dvd recorder (I know what you're all thinking, about time). While browsing on Amazon it came to my attention that there are dvd vhs recorders. They allow you to record stuff on vhs tapes and put them onto dvds. There's some old home movies we've been hoping to put on dvd, so that'll be killing two birds with one stone. However I'm not sure if they can record footage from a console. Does anyone know much about this?

Yes. My current DVD recorder is a VHS/DVD combo and it can record Xbox output (in standard def, of course). I was using it to make AC videos up until the time I won a Roxio Game Capture.
As long as it has RCA jacks labeled "video input" it can record from external devices. You can double check but a DVD burner than could only record from an internal VHS player would be pretty useless in my opinion.
Here's the one I'm getting.
Here are the product features:
DVD and VHS Recorder with two way dubbing
Records -R/-RW, +R/+RW Formats,Region:1
Playback: MP3, VCD, JPEG, Kodak Pic,DV Input:1080P Upconversion
An external tuner source is required to record television programming
I also chose to buy DVI Gear HDMI Cable 2M 6 feet along with this on a different shipment because they were frequently bought together. Am I all good to go, or is there anything else I'll need to get? Except for blank disks, I think I got some, and if not I'll get them from a store.
The other things you may need are a composite cable (red/white/yellow RCA jacks at both ends) and DVD ripping software for you computer. HDMI is good for watching pre-recorded DVD's but you're going to be recording in standard def. Plug the red/white/yellow cables from your Xbox into the input jacks on the DVD recorder. In my experience, DVD recorders do a lousy job of upconversion (converting a composite signal to HDMI) and may omit sound. That's where the extra composite cable comes in. Run it from the DVD recorder's output to one of your TV's inputs.
When buying media, prefer DVD+R over DVD-R. I experimented with DVD+RW but they generally failed after the first use.
One more question: For dvd+r/-r that can't be recorded over more than once, can you only get one recording on them? in other words, if I record something and stop recording, will I not be able to record anymore because the disk is no longer blank?
You can still record alongside of your original recording.
If I record something and stop recording, will I not be able to record anymore because the disk is no longer blank?
You can continue to record/stop/record until you finalize the DVD, which is generally required by DVD ripping software. This leads to a familiar dilemma when one records something awesome at the beginning of a DVD: Do I finalize now to upload this immediately or record some more footage to make better use of this DVD?

I hate it when that happens!
So about this dvd ripping software. What would you recommend?
EDIT:
When buying media, prefer DVD+R over DVD-R.
The disks I had were DVD-R. I don't think it recorded right (computer says disk is blank).

I can't say that I recommend any ripping software. The one I used was Magic DVD Ripper which was cheap ($35) but kinda sucked. Ian said that DivX had good features. The free version puts a periodic watermark in the corner of your video. I'm not sure where to download it (too many hits when searching for "DivX").

Did you finalize it? All of my old videos were made with DVD-R because that's the only thing my first DVD recorder would accept. DVD+R is a newer standard with better error handling. Most recorders nowadays are combo drives that accept both kinds of media.
If you have a Mac, Handbrake is free and fucking awesome.

I'm not sure how to finalize it
DVD recorder will have an option, usually in the same menu that you can rename the disc.
What is the option usually called?
Is that a Toshiba D-VR7? If so, the product flier says "Auto Finalize with Undo simplifies the recording process by automatically finalizing your recording for playback on standard DVD players."
I finally found the finalize option. Press setup, choose the last option, disk menu, and there it is. There's also the option to auto finalize in another menu. Now for putting the video on the computer.
didn't know where to put this... so I'll put it here.
.....Happy birthday to me........
Happy Birthday EA.
Anything wrong?

Thanks DAZ.
Nope...i got meh privacy, played AcIII with no interuptions. Ate delicous choclate cake..wish i had more days like this...
So you turned fourteen. Or are you referring to the movie?
A few questions concerning AC3.
Will there be a section for AC3 vids soon?
Will there be a forum for AC4 now that AC3 has come out?
How will mysterious deaths work? The best way I see is using fists. It's non lethal and non violent. Depends how you perform the attack. Low profile and from corners has you strangling them, while high profile and air attacks smash their face into the ground. There's poison darts, which could be used in extreme situations, but doesn't feel so mysterious.
Any thoughts on this?
so, this is how i've seen AC3 so far, and my thoughts on whether i should get it or not.
"i really should get it, if only to finish the story.
but i don't really care anymore.
it might be awesome.
but you said that for Brotherhood too, and see where that led.
I really should, i have too. it could reignite my place in THB, that would be good.
but i'm too cheap too actually spend any money on something i might not like."
and so on. it's been a real Gollum and Smeagol thing going on.
but as it turns out, i don't have to make a decision at all. a friend just now had an extra Steam code, and he gave it too me.
so that's good
Will there be a section for AC3 vids soon?
Around December 15. I'm not sure if you consider that to be "soon" or not. I like to give myself and others a chance to finish the game before seeing a complete list of targets, as that list itself is a spoiler.

Is it pretty clear that there will be another numbered game? If so, sure.

Non-lethal takedown sounds even better than poison for the purpose of mysterious death. You're not even leaving a chemical trail!

While I don't necessarily disagree, a point could be made that non-lethal leaves a trail in the sense that guards will wake up and probably remember being attacked, possibly even having briefly seen the perpetrator. I was always more fond of the situation where even the best "CSI" of the given era would be left scratching their head, rather than everyone immediately having a good idea of what happened. Hence mysterious death.

I meant more like assassination styles and (early) sequences.

I only suggested it because some ideas people put for AC3 might still be suggested for the next game. They can just move the topic over from AC3 to AC4.

Well... I guess its all speculation. When you do the corner assassination you make it look like they're leaning against the wall to sleep. The regular kill raises suspicion, but there isn't any proof someone actually knocks them out (except maybe some bruises on the neck, which can be easily missed). You knock them out a few seconds after grabbing them. Even if they remember those few seconds, no one else saw you. Ian made a mysterious death video where he lured the targets to him by being seen by them.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KY0H0N-Se_o
So I guess the rules are no one besides the target(s) can see you. But all the same maybe we should give these unseen kills with fists a different name, unless people are content with calling them mysterious deaths.
