Losing City Alert
A new easy setup for restarting an assassination mission. Put simply, desynchronize while autosaving. Why? Because while desynching you aren't under city alert. And since the game records you being under city alert why wouldn't it keep track that you're not? The way I did it was fall into water after talking to a saved citizen, but there are probably other ways. After respawning you no longer have city alert and can reinitialize the memory by going through one of the city gates. Now the fun begins.

Tamir's Early Death
As a result of Back to the Future Exploit, Tamir walks around randomly after accepting the mission. He can still detect you, and the memory corridor scene can be started. One thing to also note is Tamir spawns back at the assassination location when you get within a certain area of it. So what happens if he spawns back while you assassinate him? You appear at the prestaged location, which also contains the character Tamir kills in the cutscene.

Instant Kill
Reinitialize the memory by going through one of the city gates. Since Tamir is no longer recognized as a target by the game, taking out his health won't result in the memory corridor scene. Then talk to the bureau leader to restart the mission. Afterwards Altair teleports to kill because the game recognizes Tamir as a target. Tamir was killed in the place where the assassination takes place, and from that far away he glitched under the ground. Now Altair is stuck in limbo, spawning where he killed the target.

Just tried to remove city alert during the mission a little while ago. No luck. Found out you have to desynch by losing your health, or else the city alert doesn't go away (so overkilling civilians or the target escaping won't work). The way I did that in Jerusalem (since there's no water) is getting killed by a guard while collecting a flag. I let the guard take out almost all my health, and then I stood a few feet away from a flag when he did the last hit. Altair fell in that direction and the flag was collected (yes, Altair can collect flags when dying).

And...? I was thinking you could drop from a high ledge onto a flag.

Also, teleport kill on William is a bitch because I don't know how many hit points he has (in between 90 and 100). Problem is that at 90 (3 counters), Will will (pun intended Tongue) survive the fall so the kill doesn't happen. Oh well, I'll give it another shot, but I'm guessing his health is 95, so it's going to be annoying. I'm thinking two counters (leaving him at 35), two counter grabs (leaving him at 15) and a strong sword attack (leaving him at 1 or killing him).

That's ten main targets killed early. Just one away from UNLIMITED POWER!

Talal's going to be a tough nut to crack. Have you tried using BTTF on him?

Yes, I did try. In fact, I was going to save Tamir for last, but nothing I tried for Talal worked. I'm not saying it's impossible (I thought it was impossible for a few of the targets and proved myself wrong), but it could be frustrating. Talal is the only AC1 target I don't have a video for. Grrr!
In regards to the efforts, a few different things happened when I restarted the mission different times.
Once the target sign appeared where I had previously killed Talal. No Talal in sight.
Other times the target sign appeared where Talal would appear after the scene. I tried looking into the warehouse through the window, without any luck of seeing Talal.

Have you tried getting to the chase and then losing the city alert while you're still chasing him? I wonder if something like that would work.

I see you're starting to think like me...
After the Talal cutscene you are immediately under city alert, so it should be worthwhile to see what would happen. Also I have been wondering what would happen if it were possible to reinitialize the memory during the mission. Hmm.

I think we think alike a lot already, but you're more familiar with the mechanics of the game (today was the first time in like 3 weeks that I played).

You're probably going to have to let Talal run to the guard tower first, then get him to follow you and then glitch out of the city as in the original Back to the Future. At least, that's from what we know about current game mechanics. It may be worthwile to see what you can do by autosaving and then dieing in the chase (not necessarily at the same time) to see in what way the game prioritizes saves. It may not be needed to lose the city alert at all. I'll probably be playing in a few hours and I'm right up to Talal (well, gotta do investigations first, but that takes like 2 minutes with my speedrun route).

Maybe I should spend more time with the game and mess around. After all, my job in a few years is going to be thinking out of the box all day every day. I wonder if this would look good on my CV. Tongue

My first playthrough of AC1 I wasn't even aware of air to assassinate. Now I'm stretching game mechanics to their limits.

Hey, you're not thinking of stealing my last target from me, are you? Angry And didn't you say you had a video on William?

Wonder what kind of job that is.

I know. Wink

Maybe I will. Tongue I just tested out autosaving while exposed (not to lose city alert) and it doesn't really do anything, even if Talal is at the guard post. And about the William vid, I have some footage and I may have a dvd with more footage lying around, but I'm not sure I got the teleport kill on film anymore. I'll dig around for a bit. Tongue Wait a second, are you trying to keep me from stealing Talal? Tongue
EDIT: Digged around for a bit, couldn't find it. Did find a pretty nice way to kill William, though. And some other tidbits. I'll try and get the teleporting kill tonight and then I'll turn it into a mini-variety pack. Which reminds me, I also have to do some OOB stuff.

Awesome video! Really enjoyable and good thinking with losing the city alert.

I think we're getting too used to your videos, Aurel, they're still every bit as awesome as they've always been.
