"The reason we are doing this is to really focus on the roots of the franchise," Cote said. "That’s why all nine studios are focused on delivering this single-player experience."

"We felt like, especially with the type of fight that we have, a very hand-to-hand, very close combat fight, that we needed to have very high responsiveness on the system," Pelland explained. "That's one thing. It's navigation as well. When we decided two years and a half ago, we said, let's do London of 1868. You cannot have vehicles that are just cosmetic. You cannot have vehicles that are just there to look good. Players would have said, I want to drive those things. That adds complexity to the thing. It's more technical reasons [for leaving out multiplayer.]"

I did not expect this at all! But it's definitely a good move imo. I'm skeptical that it will stay this way: I suspect their strategy might be to try to release Syndicate, hopefully earn some goodwill, and then skip 2016 in favor of Watch Dogs 2 and The Division. That will probably give them time to work on their online tech and reintroduce co-op. I hope I'm wrong: The Division seems like it could be their only big online thing.

Co-op in Unity wasn't always terrible, and the traditional multiplayer was rad. But I am definitely in favor of singleplayer being the focus, and the narrative not having to contort to fit other stuff in. This could also mean more resources for modern day stuff, maybe?

I'm in all for this, and like you I hope Modern stuff does get a boost from it... =3
This would be the first single player for AC since 2, they better fill this game with content seeing there's plenty of space for it... =P

"Are you taking a similar approach to Unity regarding the modern-day storyline?
Yes, we are following in the footsteps of Unity, and we’ll be talking more throughout the summer about exactly what we are doing with the present-day storyline."

Wouldn't get your hopes up for a better modern day Sad

Ugh, this game just does not excite me at all..

Unity's modern premise was awesome. The problem was that it was literally just a premise, they didn't give it any plot. I wouldn't be so sure.

I'll admit I cringed so hard I had to pick my mouth back up and re-bolt it to my face when I read what they just said about Modern Day following in the foot-steps of Unity's. If that means story-wise and premise-wise, alright, cool. But Unity was just a simple f****ng ADVERTISEMENT for Modern Day (there are SEVEN MINUTES OF CUTSCENES AND NO GAMEPLAY) and that simply ain't fly.

Premise-wise, cool. But execute this time. And execute well.

Multiplayer always used to be fun and I think Ubi did a good job in the past of creating fun and original multiplayer modes. However, I like that they have full focus on singleplayer now. I had hoped for more modern day stuff too.
