Two more months until Breaking Bad's final season returns...
Who's excited?
Also, I've seen ridiculous plot theories across the internet, so I'm interested in what you think. How do you think the show will end? Will Walt die? Will Walt jr. find out about his dad? Will Todd get a big role in the final episodes? (I feel like he will.) Will Hank make racist jokes? Will Marie wear purple?
Feel free to speculate.

I love the show. I hate how they handled the final "season." Literally, it is two mini-seasons. They can say all they want, but when you can purchase half a season on DVD before the rest of it comes out the next year, it's two seasons.

This show gets the science, and chemistry, mostly right... and it gives me hope as a chemist that I can find a job in any economic climate. Tongue

Food for thought:
- Before the show, average meth purity in the southwestern US was less than 40%, usually around 35%.
- Now, there have been reports of 88% purity by some suppliers.
- Before the show, there was no such thing as "blue meth."
- Now, there are designer strains with added color to make it blue.

Once I finish watching The Wire, Breaking Bad won't be too far behind on my to-watch list. Since I can't stand baseball, the summer provides ample television watching opportunity.

Slowly, but surely, the job gets done.

It's finally back and I'm so happy. I think Assassin's Creed and Breaking Bad are the only 2 things I'm truly fan of.

I'm wondering how long it's going to take Walt to run off, now that Hank is on to him.

I love it, just finished the second episode ( EP10 I suppose) for season 5. In a way, I hope th emain conflict is actually resolved by the next two episodes, and something way bigger and more impressive comes up. I always wish a good series would do this instead of dragging out the predictable plotline, I want to be surprised.

Having said that, they show is extremely well done imo, haven't been this hooked to a show since.....LOST? Wtf?

I love Lavell Crawford. Nice to see him in a dramatic show, even if it still is a mostly comedic role.

Well, the shit is on now!
I really liked the Mexican restaurant scene. I feel like that's typical for this show, combining very serious moments with comedy (like the waiter talking about guacamole, and everyone was like: get outta here, moron! We're sort of busy here!)

Last night's episode knocked it out of the park.

I love that the audience knows more of the story than the characters.
We know the ricin hasn't been used.
We know Walt didn't poison the kid.
We know it was the poisonous flowers.
Jesse has never trusted that it wasn't the ricin, and Walt never let him know definitively that it was not.
I love that Jesse is coming into his own, finally.

Here's what I posted last week on facebook, and I still stand by it:

Things I hope happen in Breaking Bad:
We finally find out Gus's full backstory with the conglomerate (really, they need to explain what the hell is going on with the conglomerate in general).
Hank and Marie both die because of Walt/Skylar.
Walt, Jr. never finds out anything, and continues to eat b-b-b-b-breakfast.
Jesse kills Walt for all the shit he's been through.
Gomez arrests Jesse thinking he is Heisenberg.
Skylar lives to take care of the kids with massive guilt/pain/etc... death would be too kind.
Saul lives; gets a spin-off.

The DEA don't think very high of Jesse, I think. They see him as some pathethic junkie with guilt issues, right? I guess they won't think he is the mastermind behind it all.

It is strongly implied that Walt was responsible for poisoning Brock with the poisonous berries, as he wished to manipulate Jesse and turn him against Gus. A potted Lily of the Valley plant can be seen sitting by Walter's back pool

I've got a strange feeling that

Gomez is going to die in the shootout. And maybe Hank as well.

Also I think Walt is going to
Spoiler: Highlight to view
use the big ass machine gun from the S05E01 flash-forward to assault uncle Jack's gang. Either because
1. they force Walt to cook for them, as part of the deal;
OR
2. they capture Jesse and force him to cook while Walt fakes his death in the desert and comes back to rescue Jesse.
(I read the latter theory on twitter, the same person speculated that Hank is going to hang himself).

For real. Big spoilers here.

Spoiler: Highlight to view

Okay I have no idea how they're going to clean this big mess up in 50~ minutes.
1. Todd's an asshole. First you feed the kid Ben&Jerry's and then you cap his girlfriend? Come on...
Solution: Walt's going to kill all of them. Maybe Jesse has committed suicide before then. And I REALLY thought Jesse's escape could work.
2. The return of Elliot and Gretchen Schwartz! Who are being assholes as well. Walt always had unfinished issues with the Gray Matter buyout. I did like how she said Walter White was gone, but Heisenberg wasn't.
Solution: Walt's going to make them pay for this. That look at the end of the episode was a look of revenge.
3. Best moments IMO of this episode:
Walt's coughing that ruined a badass quote: "It's over... when I s-UGHGHGGHG";
Walt's ring falling off because of all the weight he lost, yet he still wants to wear it, so I think he still loves his family;
seeing Todd totally has a crush on Lydia, he'd do anything to please her;
Walt leaving behind two things in the bar: an unfinished drink (haste) and a crushed napkin (anger, frustration).

Can't wait!

The only way I see for all this shit to wrap up in one more episode is if Walt "loses." Jesse kills Walt, Jesse is killed (self/Nazis), Nazi's ride off into sunset with all the money.

Seriously, there are so many open stories right now that the only way to make it all end quickly is to make Walt's life end with a lot of unfinished business.

I don't think he'll deal with Grey Matter ... it was just the motivation he needed to go back on his own rather than in custody.

But who knows.

Well, he has motivation beyond dealing with Elliot and Gretchen, namely that he wants revenge on the nazi's. That's what he said to Saul right? He wanted to hire hitmen to take them out, because they killed Hank and they took Walt's money, his life work.
You're probably right about Walt dying is the best solution right now, but somehow I'm still Team Walt. But some actions were just plain psycho. Poisoning Brock to make Jesse listen to him, tormenting Jesse by telling him to his face that he let Jane die, etc.

Putting together some of the pre-episode flash-forwards...

Spoiler: Highlight to view

Walt finally realizes that the best thing is for him to take his son's advice from season 1, "Just die already."

He goes to his quarantined house and gets the ricin. He goes to the diner on his 52nd birthday (recall that he arranges the bacon into a 52). He puts the ricin on his eggs along with the salt and pepper. Series fades to black. End.

This week stabgal and I are going to watch the first couple of episodes from season 1 (A&E is showing them as re-runs). I don't know what we're going to do if we like it. So many episodes!

He is not thinking clearly. All haste and rage right now.

As far as motivation for my last comment is concerned:

Spoiler: Highlight to view
He may plan to use the gun on someone else then "come to his senses."

If he is truly a good character out for the best for his family, at some point he must realize that the best thing for THEM is for Heisenberg to be no more. As long as Walt is out there, his family cannot move on. Once they "get Heisenberg" or he is dead, the DEA has nothing. Skyler "didn't know anything" as a defense and his family can finally move on.

He started this because he wanted to leave something good for his family. I think he finally realizes that it's best for them that he is no more and they can move on from all of this.

I think they did a good job. I was satisfied with the ending of the series. However, there was one point of extremely lazy writing, in my opinion, but I was able to rationalize it.

Spoiler: Highlight to view

It was when Walt told Lydia on the phone that he had poisoned her and how. I thought that was lazy to the audience. The audience should be smart enough to figure that out. It was quite obvious. There was no need, storytelling wise, to put that in there. Then again, if Walt is a man confessing to all his sins before death, I guess it would make sense for him to tell her.

I like that Walt was merciful to Jesse and all. And I like that Jesse stood up for himself and didn't do what Walt wanted him to do... but, come on... the whole series was leading to this confrontation and neither takes a shot at the other? I guess it worked out. Would rather Jesse had turned the gun on himself to let Walt see with his dying breaths that he can't control everything.

But then Jesse couldn't have driven like a bat out of hell to get out of there, thus leading to the Need for Speed movie they kept advertising on the commercials. lol.

Yeah, that makes sense.
Thankfully, one of the best Dutch crime tv shows has returned for it's 3rd season, so I still have something to watch on Sundays. It's called Penoza, and they even made a remake in the US: Red Widow. It was on ABC, but I was disappointed to see that it was cancelled after 1 season.

When I recorded the Breaking Bad marathon back in 2013, two episodes of season 5 didn't record properly. We didn't realize it until now. Good thing they're still showing Breaking Bad reruns and I was able to schedule them again.

The bad news: We had to wait a week for each episode, slumming it like everyone else did who watched it live in 2013.
The good news: The newly recorded episodes had commercials for a spin-off called Better Call Saul. It premieres February 8, 2015 and they say people who liked Breaking Bad should enjoy it.
