Anonymous Blitz
An anonymous blitz was previously discussed in Part 1 of this variety pack:
http://www.thehiddenblade.com/emilio-barbarigo-assassination-variety-pac...

But this clip shows a way that may be a bit more satisfying than the original, as Emilio does not call to his guards in this one. Jump down to the balcony and go down the stairs to approach Emilio from behind. As you get close, transition to running instead of sprinting to remain undetected before the kill.

Free Run
You should practice this path a few times beforehand. You need to carefully steer Ezio to the left as he approaches the target. Air assassinate Emilio from the stairway rail for a satisfying finish. This assassination can also be done as Emilio heads up the stairs, instead of down the stairs, as shown. In this case, Emilio will see Ezio approach, and he will turn to run away as he calls for his guards.

After the big first jump from the rooftop, the way Ezio lands on the first beam seems a bit random. Sometimes, Ezio continues to free run seemlessly to the next beam, but sometimes Ezio lands hard on the first beam. If he does, it will take a few moments for him to recover before he can continue on his path to the target.

Hole in One
From what I can tell, you can fall from any height into a well without sustaining any damage. Ezio will automatically grab the edge of the well as he goes in. There is a well in the palazzo courtyard that you can jump into from roof level. Take care not to jump when Emilio can see you as he walks up and down the east stairs. After you fall in the well, the number of guards that investigate the well seems to vary. Zero, one, two, or three guards may investigate the well after you are hiding inside. Most of the time, if multiple guards investigate, you can only pull one guard into the well in a stealthy manner; the surviving guard Exposes you. In this case, I got lucky. The surviving guard turned away at just the right moment, and I remained undetected long enough to pull him in as well (pun intended).

This well is particularly small. Instead of pulling the guard into the well, I have at times flung the guard over the well instead. The dead body causes other guards to come investigate, which typically ruins your efforts to remain hidden. Avoid this fate by aligning Ezio with the guard before you pull him in.

Another Hole in One
You can also use the outside well to safely breach the outer compound walls. (Thanks stabguy.) Don't kill the archers near the jumping point. Recall that Ezio killed off the enemy archers here in an earlier mission. The ones you see now are your undercover allies.

The Mysterious Death of Emilio Barbarigo
The goal of this mission is to assassinate Emilio in a way that would leave his death a mystery. Blade wounds would make the cause of death obvious, as would witness accounts of a stranger sneaking around the palazzo... The goal is thus to poison Emilio (no blood stains) and escape without anyone seeing you. That means no yellow bars from any guards. It also means you can't kill anyone other than Emilio, as multiple deaths would make the situation extremely suspicious.

The Agile will notice you if you poison Emilio within 15 m of him. Wait for Emilio to go down the stairs a bit before sticking him with the poison. Now you need to escape before he dies. When you climb out of the palazzo, keep an eye out for an archer on the neighboring roof, who may see you. You also need to be careful as you swim away. This mission doesn't warn you as you approach the memory wall, which is just a few meters from the palazzo wall. You'll just suddenly desynchronize without warning if you swim too far away.

Very nice.

I really like the idea of "mysterious death". You've discovered a new style of assassination. I wonder what other targets could fall prey to this.

thx asaic! ive been thinking about other targets to try the "mysterious" style on. stefano and bernardo should be pretty easy. antonio should be trivial. salviati might be extremely challenging, and it may depend on whether you find it acceptable to take advantage of the amnesty game mechanic. marco is a possibility; i intend to try him next.

I can see how it could be done with him. I look forward to the video!

I can picture the following targets being successfully killed via mysterious death:

  • Antonio Maffei
  • Bernardo Baroncelli
  • Emilio Barbarigo
  • Carlo Grimaldi (ignoring the Flying Machine segment)
  • Marco Barbarigo

I haven't actually tried on any though, so I could be wrong.

What exactly do you mean by the amnesty game mechanic? As in, having the yellow SSI show up is okay as long as you leave their sight immediately?

I'd prefer to not have the SSI show up at all (if it's possible). I really like the idea of never being seen by even a single guard. So that when the body is found, they could question every single guard and not a single one would have any clue. And it's best if none of them are missing (ie: no kills other than the assassination target). No hints or clues left behind as to the method of entry or exit, yet the target still died and there is absolutely no evidence. This would turn the Assassin reputation into a legend. Talk about striking fear into the hearts of evil men. Cool

i use "amnesty" to refer to the brief period of time after you enter the salviati compound in which you are basically invisible to guards. i use this to my advantage in an anonymous blitz:
http://www.thehiddenblade.com/francesco-salviati-assassination-variety-pack
it may be possible to use the amnesty to poison salviati and then leave without any yellow bars.

nice summary on what the "mysterious" series is intended to invoke. i agree with everything. no SSI, no other dead bodies, preferably no other kills (pulling into a well, etc could potentially be acceptable). no evidence. a dead target. and nothing else.

BTW, I discovered a killing a target with poison, immediately, and no heat (unless it's a restricted area, and they're closely guarded).
