Clue: Stabguy's next destination is a resort town with a distinctive geographic location... so distinctive that the town changed its name to match it over 120 years ago.
+100 points for any guess, even if it's wrong.
+400 points if you answer correctly before I issue another clue.
+100 points for the first correct answer.
This one I'm incredibly confident I got. It helps that I've been there before, though...

Share your knowledge with me then. Just kidding. But a place did pop in my mind. Hmmm.
I think i guessed the right country and then let google do the rest.

Mine was on my third submitted guess. I worked in a specific direction and found a few that fit along the way until I got to the right one and then the light bulb went on.
What you HOPE is the right one...
Final Clue: Look along a major river that is entirely contained within that country.

Methodical returned from his WITWIS hiatus to take first place this round, correctly answering with Interlaken, Switzerland. He edged out Cheese, who correctly answered just 12 minutes later, and gerund who answered 29 minutes later.
Here are the overall standings:
Phi - 500
Gerund - 1704
Cheese - 1500
Methodical - 1200
Aurel - 300
Lisa - 399
We'll take a break for Mother's Day (looking at Lisa ) and start Round 7 tomorrow.
Happy Mother's Day Lisa and all the other mothers who contribute to the site!
Why, thank you Ian and Methodical!
There are many ways of solving this problem. I would have searched for "resort changed name 1892", then "resort changed name 1891", "resort changed name 1890", etc. This may seem tedious but "over 120 years ago" really corresponds to only 9 possible years. Interlaken comes up 3rd on Google for 1891. The history of the name confirms the answer.
I assumed Switzerland based on direction of travel.
"swiss resort name changed 1800s"
Interlaken is second.
not for the right reason, mind you... as "1800" shows up in the wiki page and THAT's why it's highly scored. better lucky than good sometimes.
Interlaken was supposed to be the centerpiece of this vacation. Not that the city of Interlaken itself is so fascinating but because it's well-situated near mountain villages, some of which may only be reached by cogwheel train or aerial tramway. Our plan was to take day trips to Mürren, Grindelwald and Wengen for views of Alpine peaks including the Eiger and Jungfrau. On the afternoon we arrived in Interlaken I drove up to Grindelwald, the one that's accessible by public roads. As we were leaving it started to rain. Little did we know that it would continue to rain throughout our stay in Interlaken. So much for views of mountains!
Change of plans. I looked through our guide books and found other day trips below the clouds. First up was Meiringen - the place where meringue was invented. It's most famous for Reichenbach Falls (above), where Sherlock Holmes was presumed to have died in the short story The Final Problem and in the 2011 film A Game of Shadows. There's even a Sherlock Holmes museum in town for literary tourists. My favorite thing in Meiringen was something I'd never heard of before, the Aar Gorge. This river gorge is 50 meters high and only 1 meter wide at some points.
The next day we drove up to Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Bern's mascot is the bear and the city has had a "bear pit" since the 16th century. Now the four brown bears have a nice open-air enclosure along the river. We walked from the bear pit through the Old Town, where you may see things uniquely Swiss.
Finally we drove up Lauterbrunnen, the valley that runs between all the mountain villages. I'm glad that we did. It was rainy but the views of waterfalls were spectacular.

Got any better shots of that clock?

Here's my video of it in action. Every hour, a crowd gathers to watch the animated figures. I was disappointed with the 3 o'clock show.
