so yeah, its coming up. and might be the first one i watch. so from what i've seen the nominees for the big one GAME OF THE YEAR are......
Batman : arkhamcity
Uncharted 3 :drakes deception
Elder scrolls: skyrim
Legend of zelda: skyward sword
out of these four im sure its gonna be between skyrim and uncharted.
but who do you want to win and why
What? Uncharted seriously? I think it's between Portal and Skyrim for that. I also hope BF3 can win best shooter, and Portal 2 best multiplayer. Also the Best Soundtrack and Best Song In a Game categories look serious, Bastion vs. Portal 2 is a very hard decision.
No doubt MW3 will make an appearance, despite being shit...
Honestly, it's gonna be between Uncharted and Zelda.
Arkham City will come DAAAAAAAAAAMN close though.

i only say that because reviewers praised these games like hell
i hope arkham city takes the cake
Sorry if it sounded too aggressive EA, wasn't my intention. But seriously, all of these games we're venerated by reviewers. I think if we are talking about all around gameplay, sound, graphics and replayability (what I consider the 4 pillars of a gaming experience), then Portal 2 and Skyrim are the top contestants, with Batman coming real close. Damn, I wish they could all win.
me too
It's really a three horse race at this point between Arkham City, Skyrim, and Skyward Sword. Quite honestly I don't think Skyrim will win despite being almost endless and overall fantastic, but it will still garner consideration because it is without question the most popular thing out right now (even more so than MW3 at this point).
That leaves Arkham City and Skyward Sword. I played both for about two hours. I understand Arkham City's appeal but I just couldn't get engrossed with it. Something kept holding me back. I think it was the fact that I've never really been a comic book fan, which is the audience that the game unquestionably tries to appeal to the most. I'm not saying that this is a bad thing, I just think it limits the range of the audience a bit by putting in characters and events people may be too unfamiliar with to enjoy to the extent that they should. It's a great game without question, but to be enjoyed on the groundbreaking level that it has been praised as, you need the background knowledge of the comics. That's just the vibe I got from it. It may be different for others.
I don't think there's anything I can say about The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword that hasn't already been said elsewhere. This summer I had the pleasure of replaying both The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and I came to the conclusion that while Ocarina of Time was certainly more memorable on a first playthrough, Wind Waker was ultimately the better game and aged MUCH better than Ocarina of Time did. I didn't even have to play more than two hours of Skyward Sword to instantly know that it would be my favorite in the series and without question my Game of the Year. I could go on about why it should win regarding its story, once-again timeless art style, or even the music (which, though not as good as previous titles, is still a marvel), but in my heart I know that Skyward Sword will eventually win for one reason, and that reason is this:
There have been good and great Wii games, but none of them have ever made full use of motion controls and really taken the console to its fullest potential. Everyone thought that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess would achieve this goal and it failed, though still managed to be a terrific game in its own right. Since then, countless Wii titles have tried to effectively make use of the mechanics but none of them have ever worked smoothly, kept the player engaged, and provoked strategy all at once (for example, the majority of enemies in Twilight Princess can be defeated by wildly swinging the Wiimote, and winning tennis matches in Wii sports becomes a breeze by wagging the controller all over the place). Wii games have either relied too much or too little on motion controls, and the ones that do rely on them either make accomplishing tasks with them too easy or excruciatingly difficult. No game has ever been able to strike a balance and make motion controls actually a positive feature in a game, and this has hurt the entire video gaming industry tremendously, just look at the reputation PlayStation Move and Kinect have earned over the last year.
Part of the reason Ocarina of Time is widely considered the greatest game ever made is because it wasn't just groundbreaking, it was ground-shattering. It was the first 3D adventure game that got virtually every element right, then blew everyone away by creating an open-world the likes of which had never been realized on this scale. Ocarina of Time's other elements were still beyond amazing (lock-targeting also never really existed before this game), but what it's really remembered for is that it was the first game to utilize the 3D open-world environment to its up-most potential. It ripped open a new realm of possibilities for video games that seemed unthinkable before. It set a standard to be followed, and that's ultimately what made it so unforgettable. Ocarina of Time made an impossible concept possible, and by doing so set the standard for years to come.
Skyward Sword will win Game of the Year because it works the same magic Ocarina of Time did but in a different manner. It is the first game to ever properly and fully utilize motion controls and, in doing so, has made them relevant once more and set the standard for the rest of the industry. Holding the Wiimote actually feels like you're wielding Link's sword in the sense that it matches your movements perfectly. Because of this, you have to actually think about how you approach and attack enemies, otherwise you're just going to get smacked. There's no more mashing buttons or wild wagging as with older games in the Zelda series and many older games in general. After playing Skyward Sword, going back and playing with a regular Xbox 360 controller feels stale and boring. Pulling the right trigger to swing a mace in Skyrim or pointing the left stick and mashing the x button to take out enemies in Arkham City doesn't carry nearly as much excitement as surgically carving up your enemies with strategic slashes and stab attacks controlled through a Wiimote. The controls are the smoothest I've ever played with. Add in all the usual near-perfect elements that nearly every main Zelda game has had with the new ground-shattering motion controls and you don't just have a classic, you have a legend. And trust me when I say that this Legend of Zelda will make motion controls once again exciting for anyone that plays this game. Skyward Sword is without question my pick for Game of the Year.
I also want to point out that The Legend of Zelda series is going to be the first game/series ever inducted into the brand new Video Game Hall of Fame this year, so what a better way to celebrate than to give it the Game of the Year award on its 25th anniversary and inauguration into eternal glory?
Yup, Skyward Sword. Such a beautiful game.. That's the word I will use. Not just fun, or awesome or brilliant. Just.. beautiful. It gave me that feeling that Ocarina did the first time I played it. And the controls are actually kick-ass.
EDIT: Wow, turns out FLAE said all those things lol.. I feel dumb now..
Sigh, I don't know anymore. I'll just wait and see what happens. GOTY is kind of hard to decide.
I think we should discuss the other categories as well.
Best Fighting Game, Mortal Kombat or Marvel vs Capcom 3? I'm more with MK as it definitely was a great reboot and everything from the visuals, to the sound to the kombo system was beautiful.
With Studio of the Year the competition IMO seems to be between Rocksteady and Valve. Bethesda and Naughty Dog have history on their side, but the other games seemed better executed, no offense to any fan of the other games.
Trailer of the Year, hmm, Skyrim, Revelations, or Prey2?
And finally, Most Anticipated Game...
Most Anticipated Game is probably gonna be Skyward Sword as well.
But that's just me. And I don't even OWN the game, but I've played quite a lot of it, heard and read quite a lot about it.
Well actually DAZ, MAG is for games that haven't released yet. It is a popular vote category which means people decide which one wins, which makes it all the more difficult considering the nominees: Halo 4, Diablo III, The Last Guardian, Bioshock: Infinite and Mass Effect 3.
The reason I mean that is because all of them have a HUGE loyal fanbase (TLG maybe not so much, althou its backed by PS3 fans and Lisa so there you go) mostly tied to their respective platform, which would give a big advantage to some of them e.g. Halo 4 and Diablo III.
Oh I see haha. Mm, definitely tricky. But my most anticipated of all of those is definitely The Last Guardian. Shadow of the Colossus and Ico showed us a story of love between two (what could be considered) people. The Last Guardian will show us a story of love between a kid and basically his pet. Which I think is amazing haha. Second on that list is Diablo III because I've been a long-time Blizzard fan.
Mass Effect 3.
There's your answer for MAG without question. I've never played Mass Effect but everyone I know that has says it's the greatest modern game they've played and that they can't stand waiting for the game to come out.
im sure the ubisoft team isn't there, what did they expect to win with an average review score of 8/10 ?
Wtf happened to Rising?!?! Almost threw up.
At the same time though it looks great for what it is.
LOL yeah it looked like ninja giden, that other game " the last of us" looks good to bad i don't have a ps3
so how was the award show?
was it as crappy as last years?
yes ... yes it was
and game of the year was skyrim
I didn't know Tobuscus was presenting. I should've DVR'd it. O_O

EDIT: the show was filled with a buch of celebrities who have NOTHING TO DO with gaming. and it was rushed the best part of the show was when they revealed joker was the best video game character and he had a script for the next arkham game YES the next arkham game
Oh wait, that was some other game awards show. I got them confused.
joey.... i literally hope they aint playing
I never thought it was real. haha
So sad... To lead us on like that... I hope that Warner Bros is the one joking with us...
