I've added badges to everyone's profile to indicate credentials. One of the following icons will appear on your account page and in the author pane above comments:
Administrator
Moderator
Citizen
Banned
We recently had an incident where a didn't recognize the authority of a . That user is now .
I like it, Stab. Thanks!
ETA: Maybe you'll start a trend where we revert to pictograms for written communication. Exciting!
Good idea, stab. The incident in question (if I'm thinking of the right one) was unfortunate and I felt a bit awkward having to point out the 's authority. This should prevent any future incidents and looks very nice too.
They seem nice and colorful, but they seem rather tacky and boring.
If you want, I can design them to resemble AC trophy icons.

I second this.

Are you saying that you want " " to be the badge for super awesome people?
I sure hope so.

Yeah, Joey and I should totally have our own badge!
Badges huh, their not half bad...

Sure. I'm not married to these icons and would like to see what you come up with. The main thing is for noobs to recognize moderators.
It's possible for users to display multiple badges. For example, there could be a badge to indicate that someone has already been a Featured Member.
Alright then.
I just need the following
- dimensions for the badges
- color scheme
- style
- tips, recommendations
I'm all ears...
I remember a forum that had a color system to determine the user's "power". It went from black to red depending on how high the status. Here it would go something like this : citizen -> black, moderator -> dark red, administrator -> bright red. And banned could be white, for example.
Hm. So a color scheme, eh?
Any other recommendations?
Stabguy, I'll need your opinion on this, and the dimensions for the badges, please.
The author of the badges module says, "Keep in mind that a user may have many badges displayed so you'll probably want to keep them as small as possible (like 16x16 pixels or smaller)." I think that's extremely small and don't want to see people piling up dozens of badges. The main point is to identify moderators and that would get lost in a sea of badges.
The current icons are 40x36. That's fine although I'd prefer for them to be square. Maybe 40x40.
As for color scheme, I like sync's suggestion of a special color like red for admins and mods. Also I'd like to see some transparency so that the author pane background color shows through. The badges could still have a thin border (either square or circular) if you like but I find the solid backgrounds tacky.
Icon designs inspired by AC achievements/trophies sounds like a winner.
Another thing we should talk about is what badges will be available. Besides credentials I've thought of two: Featured Member and Introduced Oneself (for posting a topic in the Introduce Yourself forum). Of course each badge type will probably require custom programming on my part. I don't like the idea of badges for simply posting 1,000 comments because it encourages spamming.
Alright. From here on, I'll be privately messaging you.
How about badges based on how members contribute to the site?
1. Video posting badge
2. Topic creating badge
3. Idea giving badge
4. Regular posting badge
5. Site improvement badge
Of course each badge type will probably require custom programming on my part.
How about having the members choose which badge types are right for them? The problem with that is some members being dishonest about that. How about the badges have to be confirmed by other members first?
That will be a problem, because some can simply make a false account and given their original account a false validation.
Can only be verified by a HiddenBlade member of at least 6 months.
Or how about can only be verified by either a site administrator/moderator or by a few members who have been on the site for at least a few months? Six months sounds like a good amount of time, though.
For example, there could be a badge to indicate that someone has already been a Featured Member.
Originally I was apathetic to this idea. For some reason, I now find myself thinking it would be a good/fun addition.

Haha.
Really, this was just a bump to see if any progress had been made.
Stabguy is the one to ask, and he just happens to be online right now.
