Well...
Last chat I mentioned an idea I had. A compilation video that would help lead interested people to our site. Now we've had discussions before about being attention seekers, but this is different. This is just a way to let the world see the things we've found out. Basically make a video for Machinima showing the top ten or twenty things discovered for each game on THB. Of course we'll want to say they were discovered here (don't want Machinima taking the credit). Stabguy even suggested we make our own 3D logo.
So lets start with AC1. Here are some major discoveries.
- Robert (and Al Mualim) killed in memory block 1
- King Richard killed prior to William's assassination
- the eagle strike
- the stunt assassination
- using weapons in Masyaf fortress
- glitching missions using back to the future (Majd Addin assassination good example)
- superfast kills (Robert, Maria, William, Jubair, Al Mualim)
- broken timeline exploit
- Silent Assassination from the Haystack - Superfast Escape (Tamir)
- unseen kill
- Turkey shoots
- other early deaths/infiltrations
So what do you guys think? Is this something we should do? If so, we should vote on what things are the best to put in a video.
I'll be glad to help for the technical aspect ("shaping" and encoding the video) ^^
Now for the logo idea (and yes, I'll keep bugging all of you until I get your opinions, Muhahahaha). What do you guys think would look good? Something with THB on it for sure. Maybe an eagle and/or a hiddenblade, like the one that's the site logo.
And for a sound effect, *ching* or an eagle screech?
I would very much prefer the *ching*. The Eagle Screech has been overdone in terms of Assassin's Creed videos of any kind. I understand that it's symbolic, but for this one moment, we don't want to blend in with the crowd Have the *shing* it's a little different.
I think the current THB logo looks fantastic and would love to see that emblem rotating in 3D space. Mmmmm...
As for the overall idea, I'm all for it and everyone has my full and total support. It's gonna be AW-SUMMMM ^_^
I would assume super/hyper-blending would be in this video.
assuming it was discovered by a THB member, anyway. even if it wasn't, people here have exploited it the best.
Super/hyperblend was discovered by IanXO4 as far as I know.
http://www.thehiddenblade.com/superblend-exploit
But this (first) video is about exploits found in AC1. We'll eventually get to AC2 and Brotherhood, but lets not get ahead of ourselves here. So is anyone here able to make a 3D logo?
Remember the introduction cutscene to ACR? Ezio putting out the double hidden blades was beautiful (according to me).
Edit: I have some *ching*s from T4C if you like.
Shock and Awe comes to mind as a significant AC1 discovery, which leads me to another point...
Some of these videos will be difficult to replicate (on a PC, in high quality). In The Bleeding Effect, Ian took out an entire unit of 11 Arsuf guards without being struck. That takes practice and patience.
Unless Machinima is stingy about videos being in very high quality recording on a pc won't be necessary. Shock and awe certainly is a good candidate for a great discovery! Hmm, perhaps it can start out with a brief tutorial (use it on guards who are taunting, distracted and scared) and end with a massive chain of kills!
And speaking of Machinima, I haven't looked into how people make videos for them. Anyone here have good knowledge about that?
Also about the 3D logo we hope to make. It has to be unique of course. I don't think we should simply have a rotating symbol, it looks like we are copying.
something i whipped up because i was bored for an hour or so.
it's not really 3D.... but a 2D image to look 3D.... no experience with actual 3D graphics... sorry.
It's a good start. I was thinking the logo could be THB at the top rotating, and in the middle the "bladed hand" moving slightly. And if it looks really cool, who knows, I just might put it at the beginning of my future AC videos.
I had a different idea. The screen starts out all black and then two circles of light start playing over it - like searchlights during a prison break. You catch glimpses of the logo's edges and then both spotlights focus on it. As the logo snaps into full light the *ching* sound plays. You've found the hidden blade.
And being a renderer you would know exactly how to do that. No pressures.
As already said, I may help if you have technical problems. But only in about two months
So for the spotlight idea will it show the bladed hand, "THB", "thehiddenblade", or a combination?
Now for how the video will start out. We need it to start as an eye opener. I'd vote for the deaths of Robert and Al Mualim in MB1, for a few reasons: It's basically owning the two major and final bosses at the the beginning, it was reported some time ago on Gamefaqs, and it's the first time you can assassinate someone on a horse in AC (no need to wait til ACB ) How about this? A brief setup on the area exploit and an annotation explaining how to remove the gate. Then as Altair walks toward Robert the James Bond Gun Barrel Theme plays, the *ching* from the assassination coinciding with the gunshot.
My vote for the initial eye opener... the scene where Altair is unaffected by the apple and stabs Al Mualim in the back immediately. This is the main bad guy in the game, and being unaffected by the apple totally breaks the climax of the game.
EDIT: Would also be a sort of "THB, where not even Pieces of Eden can contain us" moment.
Also, maybe someone can actually get back inside Solomon's temple with the jump-grab glitch.... and get it on video. I still have to try it. haha

You mean the clipping glitch Akheon used to get into the Bureau? Aurel said he managed it once.

That's the one!
Hmmm... would also be cool to have black and white stills of some targets immobilized and Altaïr standing next to them. Then follow these up with a kick (you know, a drum kick), and do the whole 'suddenly, movement, music and a crowning moment of awesome' thing by assassinating Robert de Sable from the horse.
Actually, now that I think about it, you can do this with small clips and play the first part of the James Bond theme (before the shot) under it and then do what Aurel said. Adds some more action and really 'sells' the video.
Hey could you guys add in my extended shock and awe technique from my Damascus save citizens video?
I forgot about that! We should include it as it's another good example. Plus shock and awe is probably the only combat-related discovery. Another thing: we could try having a cool intro clip.
OK, guys, I just started recording for this. I may have several things to discuss. But for now... if anyone knows anything about the whole making vids for Machinima deal, please say. And if someone can make the logo intro, that would be greatly appreciated. One question I have is concerning Shock and Awe. Should I try to get a really long kill chain? A short one does the job, but a long one makes it look awesome.
I'll try something for the logo in a few days.
Brofist, man.
Long kill chain, definitely. I record in 480p as well, though, do you want me to do it? Since I'm pretty reliable as far as shock and awe goes.
You can if you want.
I'm thinking to this one as a base. Of course it's missing movement blurr, "The Hidden Blade", fading, music, etc. But what do you think?
Edit: by the way if you find a reliable, efficient place to upload small files, please let me know.
It's a good start. We need to make it our own personal thing, so we shouldn't use anything ingame. I like Stabguy's idea so far.
The screen starts out all black and then two circles of light start playing over it - like searchlights during a prison break. You catch glimpses of the logo's edges and then both spotlights focus on it. As the logo snaps into full light the *ching* sound plays. You've found the hidden blade.
How long should it be? And what's the logo chosen?
I'd say about 5 seconds. No more than 6.
The logo Cheese put together above is a good start. It looks like the THB logo was found on the Rosetta Stone. I'd prefer to see it square and remove "THB". After the searchlights find it, bring in "The Hidden Blade" beneath the logo.
Thanks for offering to make the logo intro; it will make our AC videos seem more professional.
After the searchlights find it, bring in "The Hidden Blade" beneath the logo.
You mean "Thehiddenblade.com". We are trying to bring people to the website, remember?
You mean "Thehiddenblade.com".
Even better!
Recently did some more recording. I got a shock and awe kill chain of at least several guards (can't remember the exact number) before the last three surrendered, so I guess I'll use that. And speaking of shock and awe, who originally discovered the taunting penalty, or was that commonly known?
Who originally discovered the taunting penalty, or was that commonly known?
The Prima Guide makes a vague reference to it: "If an enemy is taunting you, attack at once." I read that but didn't fully appreciate it until seeing it on video. xcaliz0rz on YouTube (account closed) had a slick assassination of Maria where he took one arrow to the chest and then caught her taunting. He may have been the same one who fought Robert's men at Arsuf with a sword except when they taunted at which point he'd switch to the hidden blade for a quick kill.
I'm the one who named it taunting penalty in the 12 ways video.
Hmm, I see. I want everyone to get credit for what they discovered, but if taunting was mentioned by the guide, I guess it was kind of known.
Well I'm done with recording. Now comes the hard part, the editing.
Once again, if I can be of any help, don't hesitate to tell me.
Well it would help if the editing process didn't take so long. The problem is in order to put the files on Moviemaker I have to save it on Hp Video Viewer first, and that takes forever (it's also where the video problems occur). You did mention editing it on Anri Chan, but I wasn't used to that program, couldn't even find the option to trim the video. Perhaps you can (please) make a short tutorial video on how to edit videos on Anri Chan?
If you really need it, I can explain you furthermore. But first I would like you to read the SDA wiki page:
Well I'm glad to say I'm nearly done with the editing. Now the only part left after that is getting Machinima to post the video. On their youtube channel there is the option to Join the Affiliate Program. This will lead you to a form you have to fill out (with personal information) for a partnership with them. Does anyone want to try this, or should I?
I forgot to mention the site logo. Since we weren't able to get a 3D one, I just put the site picture on there. That will have to do for now. Also I have the video edited and saved.
Now comes the Machinima part. I'm a bit peculiar about putting all the personal info about myself to get a partnership, so if anyone wants to do that, go ahead (who here has the most video views?). And if we are unable to team up with Machinima, we'll just post it regularly.
Here are the things in the video in order:
Site Logo
Altair being paralyzed by the Apple, then unparalyzed
Early Deaths - Robert and Al Mualim
King Richard's Death - before William's assassination
Shock and Awe Combat
Stylish Assassinations - Stunt and Eagle Strike
Superfast Assassinations
Infiltrating Impossible Areas
Extreme Stealth
Immobilizing Characters
Broken Timeline
Glitching Assassination Missions - by leaving the area and coming back
Thehiddenblade.com Member Acknowledgements (I included everyone who originally discovered the things in the video).
Bonus
Who is assassinated superfast and what's inside the bonus part?
You mean who are assassinated superfast. All the targets that can be killed in less than a second: William, Jubair, Maria, Robert and Al Mualim (by the way, was Stabguy the one who originally found the Robert blitz out? Because he never mentioned anyone else finding it out, so I gave him credit for it in the video).
There's just a few stuff in the bonus. First, to show that Al Mualim is really dead after being thrown into water, Altair also falls to his death by him. Second, when I was recording for the Al Mualim blitz I activated the memory glitch during a scene. Altair turns invisible during these zoomed in camera angles, but you could still see the glowing outline from being paralyzed by the apple. I'm calling it "invisible glowing Altair". Third, I showed that the scholar Jubair kills dies the same way with a low profile hidden blade kill as the assassination targets.
I have a few other ideas for the video, but I'll wait for Stabguy to come back first.
I'm back and don't mind sharing my contact information with Machinima if that's what it takes.
Oh good good. But I do have a backup plan in case that somehow doesn't work out (although they wouldn't dare say no to Stabguy!). Anyhow, there is something else I would like to discuss. I had originally planned to put a bunch of annotations to explain things in the video, in addition to links in the description. However, as someone pointed out, it would be better to have audio commentary. I'm not that much of a talker, but perhaps someone else, who has a good voice and has experience talking in some of his videos... I think you see where I'm going. *on hands and knees begging* So maybe I could upload it as unlisted, then you could use keepvid to download the video and make the necessary changes.
I just hope the video doesn't seem too rushed. I barely show the setup for some things, if at all. Even so, the video is just a little less than 14 minutes long.
If most everything you show is from THB or even a comment in THB.... would it make sense to simply annotate the links to THB while it's on the screen?
I mean, this is what you want, right? People to come to THB?
Just put a little link in one corner of the screen that links to the thread/video/comment that that part of the video is tied to?
Yes, that would also work. Ian did that in his compilation video The Bleeding Effect. But audio commentary would also be good.
Just a little update. The video has been cut down to about nine and a half minutes. We are currently in the process of coming up with some commentary for it. I'm not sure when the video will be posted, but hopefully it will in the coming weeks.
How is it going with the project now?
We are currently in the process of getting the audio commentary. After that hopefully it will just have to be uploaded.
EDIT: I also made a bonus video showing some setups and additional things.
