due to popular demand....well, two people at least i'm starting this up again. but with a little twist.
this time it won't be just me listing a bunch of crap. to make it more interactive you will ask and i will answer along with whatever i think of.
not just language. anything, anything at all from "how often do you ride polar bears?" to "how do you say ....?"
considering it's december, lets start with christmas and/or general winter stuff
remember there are no stupid questions, until you ask them.
how often do you use english in a typical day?
Does all of Sweden hate Basshunter or just you?
I want to know if you're enjoying the Julmust?
Are you the only fan of That guy with the glasses in Sweeden?
*EDIT: I didn't read you asking for christmassy things, so my other question is how much snow do you have there this week, as we have quite a bit this morning?
okey, lets do this thing one by one
how often do you use english in a typical day?
english is used mostly on the internet. however sometimes single english words are mixed in to everyday talk as well. it's a thing called "Swenglish"
i heard a british comedian say it sounds like the swedish chef.
this for example is a comdy thing where it shows very clearly. it's over the top of course but it's fun. how much of it can you understand?
Does all of Sweden hate Basshunter or just you?
i don't know actually. i think he was popular for a small amount of time (mostly for girls age 12-15), but then dropped completely and became more annoying to all.
I want to know if you're enjoying the Julmust?
that reminds me i'm fresh out. gotta go get some more.
you guy's seriously don't know what you're missing. if you got a glass of julmust and a box of ice chocolates, maybe with a few marshmallow santas and you have a really good day.
Are you the only fan of That guy with the glasses in Sweeden?*EDIT: I didn't read you asking for christmassy things, so my other question is how much snow do you have there this week, as we have quite a bit this morning?
i was wondering if anyone would get the reference. some of my friends like TGWTG too. probably more does too. despite my awesomeness i'm not Omniscient.
got a few inches of snow in the past 2 weeks. i love snow, but it makes it so hard to use the bike.
wow, long freaking post
for anyone wondering how to pronounce the last 3 letters i'll just direct you to this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fv3HIV6oYs
it's a clip of an old kids show. basiclayy it's like sesame street but better cause it has talking pink elephants, with hats
Honestely Rob, I don't know if that help or just confused me more. Maybe it was just the nature of the song but all the vowels sounded very similar. That long "aaaaaahhhhh" near the end cracked me up though.
I have a norwegian friend on msn, how similar is Swedish to Norge? Also, what is the swedish word for checkers, as I was told it was Dam in Norge.
Can you send everyone some Julmust?

yes, i don't actually know what exactly checkers is, i've heard of it but that's all. and yes, it is called Dam. Dam is also the word for "lady"
i've always figured it's because the queen is the most useful peice in normal chess but i have no idea if that's true.
norwegian is somewhat similar, although i think they have a much easier time understanding us than we have of understanding them. and the less said about Danish the better. that sound like a retared swede-german with cotton in his mouth
Can you send everyone some Julmust?
put in you're home adress here and i'll come over with guns, poision julmust
however, there might be some at a local IKEA, that should be you're best chance anyway. go ask the now
and since we celebrtae christmas on december 24 instead of 25 it's almost already over
Umm, ok, I'll bite, what is Julmist? I presumed it was a food or drink but when you mentioned you were getting it from IKEA, that really threw me off. Some kind of furniture then?
no, it's a drink, but IKEA has a restaurant as well
In another topic, you mention the living hell that is listening to old women talking about "ye old times." What exactly are these "old times?" Do they involve ASSASSINS?!?!?!?
In another topic, you mention the living hell that is listening to old women talking about "ye old times." What exactly are these "old times?" Do they involve ASSASSINS?!?!?!?
no, that would have been awesome though.
it was generic old people stuff like...
*impersonates old people voice*
"i remember back when we had milk bottles instead of cartons"
"here's a picture of some person, theyre dead now"
i didn't really listen.
ok, when i get back i want this topic filled with a whole bunch of crap for me to answer. feel free to mention old stereotypes like
"are all women hot?" and
"is there nudity in ever swedish movie?"
Is it true that you are more liberal in Sweeden than in Britain, for example you have a laxer opinion of euthanasia, and you don't really have the underage booze culture we have here, you are generally more law abiding than us?
Also, are the women hot there?
Have you confirmed that there was a Weight Watcher's meeting in Sweden in which the floor collapsed?
so, it is now midsommers eve. one of the bifggest if not THE biggest drinking day odf the year.
i'm quite drunk still. went drinking with some old friends i havnt met in years.
so anything i write in the next few hours is to be taken with a grain of salt

You don't say.
nicely done.
not sure if i should've put that here or any other spam topic.
but i figured it's always nice to know something about a swedish holiday, and tgherefore is best put in here
What kind of Holiday is it? Religious? Patriotical? Old Norse tradition?
okay. gather around, children and i shall tell you a tale.
midsommers eve is an old tradition dating from the pre-christian times in celebration of the summer solstice.
the traditional way to celebrate is to dance around a big flower-clad pole (i hear it's also supposed to be a symbol of fertility, with it seriously being a long shaft with two rings at the sides)
but nowadays that part is mostly for the kids and elderly.
but for most people it's just an excuse to drink alot, and i do mean ALOT
So it's like Holy week...
...
Wait, that came out wrong.
okay. gather around, children and i shall tell you a tale.

So I guess it's kinda like the English May Day holiday, dancing round the maypole, but you don't have morris dancers!
It's the fourth of July this Sunday!
HAHA! Sweden doesn't have an independence day!
we have the National day if that's what you're getting at, although that's not as clearcut as you're Independence day (terrible movie BTW)
Found it!
Just bumping it for now. Will think of questions for later.
Rob - I've asked you before, and we've never really gotten around to getting any particulars. And if you've covered this somewhere else, I apologize.
I'm curious about your military service. Are you required to serve or did you sign up voluntarily? How long are you required to serve? Is this your only job or is it a part-time thing (like our reserves or National Guard)? Do you enjoy it? Do you hold rank? Do you intend to make a career of it or is it just something to do while you're still young?
That should do it for now. Thanks!
well, conscription was technicaly removed fairly recently, but in practice it was barely in use since...let's say year 2000.
like people could still be forced to go through boot camp, but it's been rare for a long time.
i joined voluntarily, went through boot camp and then joined wht is know as "Hemvärnet." directly translated that is "Homeguard."
it's just something you do on you're spare time or in emergencys. there is a whole history to the Homeguard that i can summarise if you want.
i think that's similar to you're National Guard but i don't know what the NG actually do.
i was previously hoping to make a career out of it, but now i think the Homeguard is enough actually, maybe more sometime in the future, but i'll cross that bridge when i get to it.
here you go through boot camp, but then if you want a full time employment you have to look for it like any normal job, or just do homeguard or you could just ignore it completely and just use it as a nice military training to put on you're resume.
