I don't know much about SOPA but isn't it a good thing...? (Although I suppose there is freedom of speech issues etc. surrounding it).

Mind you, with that many companies behind it, it appears to be the work of our good friends at Abstergo...

I understand the point of the bill, but it will be censoring the most free form of connection we have. I'm a person that doesn't give a flying f*ck about money, so I'm against it. It seems most supporters of this bill are big businesses, and that usually comes from the fear of losing money.

SOPA is a piece of shit, in short it basically gives them the right to for example shut down the entire Youtube, because there is one video of a person dancing to a song in the background.

these are the best summarys i found so far
this and this

give it a watch.

in my own words though, as far as i can understand it gives the big corporations full power of the internet.
you like ThatGuyWithGlasses? too bad, it's gone
you wanna watch a movie or game review? too bad, it's gone
Stabguy makes a new video? too bad, it's gone

etc

Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson. They will in fact calm up

Here are 2 reasons why this is disastrously bad.

1) No due process. The companies given the power to shut down any website they want will be doing it only on their own say-so, not with any precedents of legality or protections for free speech, etc.

2) National security. Hacking of the protocols that would be created to implement this power would give hackers the power to shut down anything. How much of anyone's government depends on the internet?

Complete destruction of the internet is probably the best-case scenario of this horrifyingly scary proposal. It must be fought vigourously by the 99%.

"The best of intentions..."

The rest of that little lecture by Dr. Grant in Jurassic Park 3 sums up SOPA quite well.

I guess that I should share my opinions on this...

This Bill basically wants to stop the illegal streaming of copyrighted material from companies. Like it or not, these companies have a RIGHT (emphasis on this world) to report this problem, because there are losing millions and millions of dollars. Also, its rather unfair for the artist to not get paid for what he does - make music. It would be appropriate to pay the musician for the music he's entertaining you with, wouldn't you agree?

Well, it doesn't work like that. You see, the system is set up in such a way that everybody that have seen, touched, or created that album must be paid for their work. That includes the companies that rented out the recording studio, the graphic designer/photographer, the factory where it's being produced, the shipping of the albums, the shops where they display these albums, and of course, the artist themselves.

With that being said, I think that SOPA is a complete pile of steaming defecation. Why? Because ONLINE PIRACY HAS, AND ALWAYS WILL EXIST! It's the internet! Nothing the government can do about it! Look at piratebay. Has that been taken down? And for how long? It's still here, isn't it?

Most members of Congress that support this Bill even stated that they don't even know how the internet works. That's scary enough for me...

Poor Ted Stevens... a year and a half since he died in a plane crash and he still can't live down his "tubes" comment.
