Optional Objectives Issues?

I am, as per my name, playing this game at an incredibly slow pace. Literally, I just killed Julien du Casse last night. I am loving the game as well, I really enjoy being on the open water and having so much to explore. That being said, the single worst feature of the game is the total inconsistencies with the displaying of the optional objectives during missions.

I've finished several missions and realized that I've only gotten 80% because I was totally unaware of said optional objectives. I know I can pause the game and see them there, but my guess is that most of you play like me and once you're into a mission, you're absorbed by it and don't pause. Then, to boot, failed optional objectives at the pause screen simply disappear, so if I may pause to check and it appears as though there's no objectives to complete.

Is anyone else having an issue with this or is it just me?

Yes, to all of the above. I frequently pause the game during story missions to see if there are any new optional objectives I should be aware of. Things pop up on the HUD but I don't always have a chance to read them.

There's something else you didn't mention. Say you complete the first optional objective and then desynchronize. After reloading, the passed objective disappears. Don't worry - you already got credit for that one. Complete any other optional objectives and you still get 100%. It would be nice if the checked box remained onscreen.

You won't even feel the blade.

I only forgot to pay attention to the pop-ups once or twice. rest of the time, I knew what I was supposed to do and failed only because of my own weakness. My brother, on the other hand never seems to notice any pop up text in video games. he doesn't see tutorial prompts, optional objectives, or anything.

Would be rad if objectives could be shown at the mission start again, that's the best possible way to make them clear. might also be good for them to stay on the HUD.

the posts a bit guy

This. I think we all got pretty accustomed to the optional objectives making themselves very clear at the onset of a mission so we would approach the mission with them in mind. I'm becoming more cognizant of pausing the mission immediately to figure out if there's something I should be doing, but I don't like that extra step.

OR ... OR ... OR ... how about, instead of giving in to some whiny gamers that get upset at a small little red X that comes on screen when they fail something and can't figure out how to turn notifications off in the HUD... why don't they just leave that AC3 feature in?... (maybe it wasn't optional to turn it off? if that's the case, then make it toggleable...)

I agree that the DISAPPEARING of objectives (failed OR achieved) sucks balls. Which was it? failed or achieved? you don't know until the end of the mission.

But I've commented on this already: http://thehiddenblade.com/assassins-creed-iv-review#comment-32596

Full Sync Objectives have never been a Toggleable part of the HUD. They should be. That would actually solve quite a bit. For a game series that claims to have all parts of its HUD customizable, they sure stepped off on this one.

If you turn off the full HUD (in AC3), do the optional objective notifications turn off too? or is there no way to turn them off at all?

Whenever I do my first playthrough, I attempt the objectives presented, but usually only play to have fun. Playing Black Flag, however, I got used to pressing R2 to pull up information about my current location. I assumed doing so during a mission would show the objectives without breaking up the gampeplay itself. I think they should go for this option.
