I'm sure this has been brought up before, but Ezio can accomplish a lot very early in the game. Feel free to ignore.
I am starting a playthrough where I will be creating game saves at particular times (especially for assassinations). As part of this, I decided I want to do as much as I can viewpoint wise before moving on with the game.
The first time Ezio has freedom to do what he wants is right after you beat up Vieri's men. Before starting S1M2, the second mission in the game where you go to the doctor, Ezio can fully explore San Giovanni. (side note: Even if you throw ALL of Vieri's men off the bridge, they will still spawn in the locations for body looting). This includes syncing all viewpoints, buying a treasure map, collecting all treasure and even collecting the Codex page.
The best part about running around at this point in the game is the lack of guards. There are only 6 guards on the entire map to deal with. 3 are at a guard post protecting the Codex page. 3 are at another guard post protecting a "double treasure" room. However, the other 2 "double treasure" rooms are unguarded... you can waltz right in. Even though you don't have any weapons or armor, if you are competent in hand-to-hand combat, you will easily win... as the 6 guards don't have weapons either!
You can do the following things Ezio hasn't learned about yet:
- Collect Codex page
- Buy treasure map, collect treasure (feathers aren't unlocked)
- Buy medicine from doctor (and get healed)
- Buy medicine pouch upgrade from tailor
- Pick-pocket
There is a group of thieves on a roof near the Santa Maria Novella district. You cannot hire them. You cannot use fast travel stations, as they are unmanned. The other things at all the shops are "out of stock." There are no glyphs to look for in the San Giovanni district.
The coolest thing to me is the pick-pocketing. You don't learn this until Paola teaches you at the beginning of Sequence 2. You can pick-pocket whoever you want, and there are no guards to stop you. (Citizens get uneasy and will attack you though...)
By doing all this first Ezio will surely have enough money to pay the doctor. (I stopped after getting about 5000 total florins from treasure and pick-pocketing).
Again, useless information. I was just surprised at how much of the map and abilities was open so early in the game.
Yeah, it's quite fun to mess around during that period. Unfortunately you run out of things to do pretty damn soon.
I did the exact same thing on my first playthrough..
Although that was only because I wasn't smart enough to figure out what else to do. Minimap... Pffftt, I don't need you!

Yep... like 30 minutes and all you're left with is pick-pocketing and free-running.
Also, you know how Hutch et al has been promoting the "monkey bar" stuff as being new animations for Conner? I think Ezio is able to do this in select locations too... I'll check again tonight to be sure!
If you have previously used Uplay points to get the knife belt upgrade, you can collect that from the Tailor as well even though you won't be given an knife belt until S3,M4 (2 years later in game time).

Does that mean you can buy knives from the weapons shop then? If so, it just might be worth it...
- Buy treasure map, collect treasure (feathers aren't unlocked)
The feathers in San Giovanni haven't spawned (because Ezio hasn't talked to Petruccio about feathers yet) but you can collect Feather 2! This is the one on the border with the San Marco district. It's "officially" a San Marco feather but on the San Giovanni side of the memory barrier.

Sadly, no. You can't buy knives until Mario gives you the knife belt. But it's useful to have 15 right away if you like to eliminate Vieri de' Pazzi with throwing knives and are a lousy shot. Like me.

Hmm. Does it at least show the throwing knives icon on the weapon wheel?
I don't think so, but I don't remember exactly. I guess I'll have to play again, cool!
Yes. It DOES show up on the weapon wheel.
You cannot buy any weapons in sequence 1.
I will try sequence 2 and 3 this weekend. I think you can't buy anything at the weapons dealer until Monteriggioni... so sequence 3 might be a good time to check too.
Yes. It DOES show up on the weapon wheel.
YES! Does it always show up on the weapon wheel, or will the icon go away after you go through a loading screen? Also, has anyone tried looting guards (after getting the extra knives from uplay, of course) just in case you might be able to loot throwing knives? And even if that doesn't work... *gears turning*

The problem with these damn games is that the trying out (the boring part) takes longer than coming up with the ideas and succeeding (the fun part).
Yes, you can loot guards.
But I thought you could only get florins in AC2... the ammunition/medicine looting isn't added until ACB. Or am I completely wrong?
I'll check tonight after a loading screen... but I think the knife icon is still on the weapon wheel.
I would love to get some knives for Uberto... haha

I think you are correct.
Alright...
Sequence 2, the icon is on the weapon wheel... So it makes it through several loadings... No way to get knives from blacksmiths, nor through dead body looting... but the icon is there.
In sequence 2, you can now hire thieves, not surprising, since you learned to hire courtesans.
I was wrong... you CAN loot bodies for throwing knives...
I wasn't able to do this until after getting the knives from Mario... but I wasn't trying extensively before this, because I didn't think you could.
Dang it. My plan didn't work. My plan was to temporarily skip through the game to obtain throwing knives, then purchase the extra throwing knives from uplay. I've tried doing a couple of things, none which were successful. The best I've managed was I had ten throwing knives, but even then I couldn't select it on the weapon wheel. I guess the game recognizes you shouldn't be able to have throwing knives in you inventory yet.
I would love to get some knives for Uberto.
Yeah, that's what I was aiming for. I guess it wasn't meant to be. However, I still do have an idea regarding skipping through the game, if anyone is interested in hearing it.

Always. You want to try playing an assassination mission? Doubt that'll work, but it's worth a shot. The glitch is pretty easy to carry out.
Temporarily skipping through the game only works when replaying memories. Anyway, my idea is simple and doesn't involve assassinating anything: Collect all the feathers in the game (since the game thinks you are far in the game when replaying a memory, probably depending on the memory). Then go to the villa by using the fast travel glitch. So the plan basically is to unlock the Auditore cape (and hammer). Now the game makes you lose anything you've unlocked (if you obtained them while replaying the memory) since those things are available when you get get far enough in the game, but since you unlock those things by collecting feathers, they may be an exception. Just wanted to see if nobleman Ezio can wear the Auditore cape.

I would love to see that. I hope it works.
You think I should try that then?
all 100 feathers?
seems like an awful lot of work to test a glitch.
but if anyone can do it while waiting for new awesome games, i'm sure it's the people here at THB!
Thank goodness for the feather vids on THB! But even then it could take some time. Especially with a recent problem with the Xbox360. The light from the power box on the plug has started turning red. When that happens the console won't turn on. I've had the console a little over a year, so I suspect it's because of dust.
I might have something else to try out... I need to test a few things tonight first... or whenever I have time.
You should play GTA San Andreas... there is soooo much to do at the very start of the game, I think my Master Save File has more hours than all of my GTA SA gamign combined.
Are you talking to me?
Anyone who is interested in doing stuff at the begginning of the game I guess. Also yeah you should probably play it because there are probably thousands of cool exploits in that game you could uncover, I already found loads myself like how to undrown a car (so you can drive underwater) to get rare cars to the first island at the start of the game.
Was it ACII that had the airwalking glitch?
Yes. You can still airwalk by uninstalling patches and using a pre-patch savegame (or starting a new one).

So someone could use this as a Blitz Assassination of Antonio Maffei (even if it uses a glitch, ha)...
The Torre Grossa is the only other building that is as tall as the one Maffei is on, and the mission starts right by it. You can run down the alley to the doorway, climb the building, then promptly climb the main tower to the top (turning right again). Unfortunately, it's 60-70m away from Maffei, and he only is modeled at 60m or so... so you can't get him with throwing knives from there, because, although the knives make it, he's not there to be hit. If someone were to run up the tower then airwalk to Maffei's location, it would surely be faster than climbing round and round his tower to get up there is a straight shot up Torre Grossa).
