Does anyone have a Switch? My son is obsessed with Mario, and he's dying to have Odyssey. I haven't played much lately, other than playing Mario games with him, so I was wondering if any of you have played it. Selfishly, I went and played a demo of Breath of the Wild at Target last week, and I'm convinced it might be the best Zelda game yet.
Breath of the Wild is very different from other Zelda games, in that it basically completely steps away from traditional Zelda sensibilities. The closest thing it tries to emulate is the feeling of unrestricted freedom and exploration from the very first Zelda game ever made, but with good design relevant to the modern era. It's quite systemic with a lot of emergent properties.
I haven't played a Switch yet, but my girlfriend has one and she's enjoying it immensely. Mario Odyssey seems to be quite the game as well! I'll likely end up picking a Switch up eventually, because a sequel to one of my favorite series is coming to it. (Metroid Prime 4).
Thanks. I'm partial to the series that remind me of childhood too.
Breath of the Wild is a very good game. I was able to borrow the Switch from my roommates and spend a lot of hours on it. There are a ton of things to do as well as a ton of easter eggs and call backs to past LoZ games. A lot of which you have to really look for. I considered biting the bullet and spending my little money on a Switch of my own, but I found out that you can't transfer save profiles to another Switch console. I put in so much time and effort that it wasn't worth starting from scratch. At least not for now.
I'll always recommend the game, though. One of my favorites of all time.
Thanks Joey. I made the purchase last night and added Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild. I'm really looking forward to Christmas morning now, and the look on my son's face when he opens it, especially since I already told him I wasn't buying it.
