If you couldn't tell by now. This year,2012,is 360 and PS3's last run until The 720 and PS4. A prime example, the Wii u.
This thread was made to discuss our predictions/thoughts for these consoles. Such as what types of features from the previous might be making a return. Or the visual expectations. Hell, Xbox and Ps3 aren't the only consoles for next year. There have been announcements of valve's new console "The steam box" and a new Neo Geo handheld.
So enjoy the thread.
Didn't they say none of those are happening this year (except for the Wii U)? I'm not sure about the Nat Geo handheld, though. I haven't heard about that at all.
IDK, but i wasn't saying they were. When i mentioned the Wii u, i meant that the console was ushering in a new era of gaming.
The Wii U will be the last, definitive stand that Nintendo makes in the video-game industry. If that console fails, then Nintendo will probably die out. It's franchises rights will probably be sold in order to pay of the money they keep losing. Soon, Pokemon and Link will be seen on Microsoft and Sony's platforms.
There's a reason why they're bankrupt. It's the collection of games they only offer. Sure - the Mario, Pokemon, Kid Icarus, Zelda, and other obscure franchises do have a strong fanbase, but that can only get you so far as a company. To draw in more consumers and fans, one must have a plethora of games which gamers can choose for themselves. The Wii failed on that. Hopefyully, the Wii U will fix that.
Let's say hypothetically that the Wii U does dominate the gaming market. That means that Sony and Microsoft will be in knee deep s***. I'll be betting that they plan to release the XBOX720 and PS4 just to prevent Nintendo from dominating the market, DESPITE the PS3 and XBOX360 NOT reaching its saturation point.
Just my thought on this...
apart from the Wii U i don't think any of those are gonna come out in 2012.
might see something on E3, but that's about it.
honestly i'm a bit conlflicted on it.
on the one hand, i know it needs an upgrade, but on the other i'm scared of change.
and if the Xbox is called 720 when i'm gonna smack someone
Current gen consoles, the 360 and PS3 that is, have until 2013-2014, IMO. Considerable life span for a console generation that had experienced so many changes in the industry.
Yeah, I have a feeling we'll be seeing something come out by at least 2013.
2014 seems like the best year to roll out new consoles after Wii U.

In other words you wish the world would end in 2012.

The new Xbox 360 is to be announced at E3 . But this is only a rumor.

Not going to get a lot of sales, then.

I may be loyal to Sony at the moment but if the new XBOX 360 is actually released at $100 (about £60 but that will probably be increased to about £100 when sold over here) I will buy one as soon as it's available (around 2013/2014 by the sounds of it).
Couldnt care less tbh, il ride my PS2 till the end of time
So apparently. The next gen will lower the price of video games. There is no confirmed price. But its expected to be 50 to 40 dollars.

This. I hardly believe that the price won't drop any further than $70 here. Standard price being $80.
Depending on where you live in the world, you could spend up to $100 for a single game. Australia is a prime example of this.
Personally, I think that this is a wise decision in the video-game industry. Not only will it give it the edge to compete with online streamers, but will probably encourage gamers to purchase more than one game. In turn, this will support the industry and help keep it aloft.
