I doubt we have any people on this forum who didn't buy the original AC, nevertheless, if you never had the chance, lost that piggy-bank with all your savings, lost your copy, or simply hadn't feel interested in the series until later, then this offer is tailored for you.
Apparently, Ubisoft feels like many people jumped into the AC boat with AC2, so they felt like it would be a nice thing to just give out free copies of the first game with day one copies of ACR. Certainly seems like a fair deal, not really sure what does this leave for Ubi thou.
What do they get from this?
From all the exclusive PS3 stuff, it's pretty clear Sony has a contract with them, so it's pretty explanatory IMO.
Well I guess I'm the only one who doesn't really pay attention to that kinds of stuff
Nah, most people don't.
Also, I've heard that it comes on the same disc, so I think it's also because of the fact that Blu-Ray discs can hold more stuff.
I am quite embarrassed to say that I never had the pleasure of playing ACI. I started playing ACII at summer in my cousin's house, and I was hooked on immediately. As a result, I was very confused when I played the game, as the entire story seem completely new to me, and I didn't have much of a back story. I wasn't until much later until I went to Assassin's Creed Wikia and read the story article that I actually finally understood the complete story.
'Til this day, I still haven't played ACI. Because I read the story, the full gaming experience won't hook me in, as the strong point of ACI was the story. Also, I heard that it's very repetitive with less variety, so I probably won't enjoy the game very much.
However, since Ubisoft is giving FREE copies of ACI with a purchase of ACR, I might be interested in playing it. I don't know why Ubisoft is doing that, but like Calvar said, Sony could be making a contract with them. That, or nobody is buying ACI (maybe it lost its value), so the extra copies are practically worthless.
Ubisoft discounts all of their games so fast that you could conceivably buy AC1 for 5 bucks at full retail price, nowadays. I don't think the fact that no-one's buying it is why they're not making a profit.

you never played ac1 doesn't matter the only thing i played ac1 so many times was for altair but now we have acr
ok this is useless !! ubisoft hates XBOX!!!
*Raises hand* I started the series with Ac2 But I went back and played through Ac1
I finished AC2 before AC1 because I thought I had so much left to do and I couldn't wait to play AC2. Turns out I only had to kill the last guy before Al Mualim.
Does this mean AC will have Trophy Support??? I didn't read the article yet...
EDIT: (After reading article...) Man I wish it did have Trophy support. I mean I've already played that game 4 times, three years ago. It'll give me another reason to play it again.
So how does this work? Buy from ubi directly?
Nah, they'll just add it to the disks for a limited number of 'em I hear...
It's supposed to be for the day 1 buyers only, I read.
aaargh i must confes ive played ac1 the first half then got stuck cause i didn't knew that i had to go on the view points then borrowd ac2 from a friend played it and then finished ac1 aaargh i'm sorry
You guys are funny i finished ac1 before ac2 got out.
Then my account got deleted and i didnt play it much anymore.
You guys are funny
i know i am oooh you where talking about them
Played AC after it had come out on PC at a friends' house.
Got hooked on AC2 after another friend introduced me to a competition Ubisoft was having in my country. Ended up saving me a lot of money on my first-day copy.
Then I tried AC1.
And now I love AC1.
