Let me get this out of the way: Metroid: Other M is f'ing fantastic.
This game has garnered mixed opinions all over the net (mostly from people who haven't even played it yet), but I recommend those of you who love Metroid games give it a try and judge for yourself. I was not expecting to like this game at all, yet after spending the better part of a week with it, it makes me want to do the dance of joy. It's a strong contender for my favorite game of 2010.
Other M is not perfect, but it's flaws are out-shined by all the great things about this title. If you're a fan of the Metroid series, do yourself a favor and at least rent Other M. I bet you'll enjoy it more than you thought you would.
When I got online today, all I saw were people hating on it. I just saw a few articles praising it. There's no middle-ground! XD

Keep in mind that most of the people who have issues with the game have not played it yet. People like to think they know everything about something without even experiencing it.
Great to hear, Asaic. I think I will also do a dance of joy.
I've never played a Metroid game so I have no comment, but from what I have seen and heard the game apparently is really bad in that it goes against the traditional story and many of the elements in it don't make sense. The gameplay, though it looks pretty cool, is apparently not that great either. Asaic, I'm glad you enjoy the game, but from what I have seen not many people agree with you.

Ha ha, that's unfortunate that you only saw bad things. There are mixed opinions, but the majority seem to like the game. Most of the people who don't only began the Metroid series with Metroid Prime, which is very unlike every other Metroid game. So that, in their mind, is what Metroid is about and not the other games. It's sad, but that's just the way it is for those people.
Other M is the most story-heavy Metroid game to date, and many people probably had other ideas in their head about what the details of the story were about, and thus were disappointed when this game didn't agree with their imaginings. Most of the story had been previously laid out, just not much in the games themselves. Mangas and other mediums filled it out, and this new game is fully in line with those. For players who had no idea what the back story was, this revelation might not have been so appreciated.
The gameplay itself is tough to dispute. For an action game, it's extremely solid. It's fast, it's fluid, it's responsive, it's challenging. I surmise that if a person doesn't like the gameplay in Other M, they're not really into those types of action games in general.
I only recently started playing this, and I have to agree, it's a great game. Reminds me so much of Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion. Those were my two favorite Metroid games. And I haven't played Prime 1 or 2, but I've beaten 3 on Hypermode (which is not much, considering 1 and 2 are supposedly harder.)
