As soon as something new is put on the front page, everything below it drops down. Before long, good stuff is completely scrolled off the first page. If someone were to post a response to an article that isn't brand new, it would go unnoticed by the majority.
Is it possible to create a subforum where it lists all of the front page topics the same way regular posts are listed, including showing when new posts are made (and thus bumping them up to the top of the subforum list)? This might encourage further discussion on topics that aren't brand new, and it would also be a nice quick way to see a listing of the front page articles at a glance from the persective of what's been talked about recently, rather than what was originally posted recently.
stab - this is similar to what i was proposing about a way to organize the vids to facilitate browsing. i think its a nice idea, but i have no concept of how easy or hard it is to implement. ur thoughts?
I've been thinking about it. The part I can't get past is the content type. Something that starts out on the front page is a Story and everything the in forums is a Forum Topic. A topic promoted to the front page is still a Forum Topic. If I could out a way to put Stories in a forum, we'd be in business.
A workaround to the root problem (not seeing new comments on old stories) is to use the Recent posts link in the left column.
