I noticed there was no thread on this topic, so voilà. Post your experiences with battling the Legendaries here. Which did you like/dislike? Which one was the toughest/weakest? How much did you enjoy the battles overall?

I really liked these battles. I started very cocky, thinking I could take down the Legendaries with just a few ship upgrades. I got blown to bits, obviously, but after that every time I came back I got a little closer to winning. Eventually, when I sunk my first and second Legendary, I was so happy and proud.
I beat them in the following order:
- HMS Prince (SE corner)
- El Impoluto (NW). I read somewhere on the internet that many players think this is the toughest, but surprisingly I didn't have a lot of trouble with it.
- The Brothers-In-Arms, HMS Fearless & Royal Sovereign (NE). I was extra happy to win this one because I made the most attempts to beat this one, above all the others.

I haven't beaten La Dama Negra (SW) yet.

Oh my gosh what

I liked these battles. I wish they could be replayed, because I could've done better with the videos I made for them. We need more of this.

I have yet to try them, might get onto it soon. Do you need to kit out your ship hardout or can you do them ASAP?

...Yeah you should totally just go for it right now. I'm sure you got what it takes.

Are they one off opportunities, as in no reload once I do it? Might record it.

Yeah, you can't replay them. But seriously, upgrade as much as possible.

I think they were hard enough with a fully upgraded ship, but if you think you can beat them with only half the upgrades, I say go for it! It would make for spectacular videos, if you succeed.

how... how did you die with a fully upgraded ship? i mean, the only one that took me more than once with a fully upgraded ship was the one with two ships... Tongue jkjk, tough mofos

that said, i kind of want to do a replay through the game and see what the minimum upgrading is for me to beat them... Evil

It took me a few retries on some of them with a fully upgraded ship. But that may be due to the fact that they have different ways of battling you. Like the one that FLIES.

You unlock the flying special attack for the Jackdaw after finding all the hidden bottles of rum at the smuggler caves, right?

no no no... the bottles of rum unlock the laser guided torpedoes.

to unlock the flying attack you need to higher every group of courtesans once in the game.

Hold on, I'm confused. I thought the torpedoes were unlocked by killing 50 white whales with the berserk darts.

You unlock the torpedoes by doing both the bottles of rum and the white whales.

Jesus Christ thanks Joey, im still shaking from my encounter with that ship. Had to run away I almost had a full on breakdown when I saw how little my heavy shots did to it.

I think that's only in a DLC where you pay Ubisoft $5. Don't think it's unlockable in game... I could be wrong though.

Guys, look what you did.

I think we just discovered how hazing on TheHiddenBlade works. This is bad.

Honestly, even if you're fully upgraded, it won't make a difference until you figure out what the best strategy to defeat them is. I attacked my first Legendary ship when fully upgraded and barely made a dent. Then I realized that it had super armor on its sides and was vulnerable from behind.

I like it, they definitely feel more like old-school bossfight design than anything in AC ever has. Every other bossfight is a breeze if you have lots of ammo and health, you just wail on the dude till he pops. It didn't have anywhere near as much depth, but I also loved the bossfight with the Templar in Knight's armor near the end of the game. Only assassin vs. one dude bossfight I've ever felt was fun.

the posts a bit guy

I'm only going through these now. I had no issues with the HMS Prince or La Dama Negra, beating both on my first try. El Impoluto caused me a bunch of problems, but I eventually figured out how to control her path with mortars and round shot, thus opening it up for heavy shot (and avoiding its ram). I barely used the fire barrels, but it seems like other people utilized them heavily against this bad girl.

My next step is to go after The Brothers-in-Arms, which I've tried I think 2-3 times before. I think I have the strategy down, it's just a matter of employing it. I've found that the chain shot is probably the most important thing to use against these ships.

Slowly, but surely, the job gets done.
