If you haven't seen or heard about this book...well you must live under a rock. Or maybe far away from any civilzation.
The hunger games i just started to read it. I like it but i can't resist on comparing it with battle royale. Which by the way, is where i belive hunger games originated.
Now, i've read through the manga of battle royal. And i must say. Battle royale is alot more graphic than hunger games. And probably alot more emotional. Being that in battle royale, everyone knows each other(they've been classmates since the third grade or something).
Anyway are you excited for the movie?.
I *LOVED* the books and yes, I am looking forward to the movie! I'm glad you're reading it, EA. I hope you won't mind keeping me updated on how you like it.
Well. I'm currently on chapter four. And i have to say, its really getting good really fast.
I think the thing i like the most is the post apocalyptic setting. Yeah, pretty recycled in movies nowadays. But still entertaining nevertheless. To be honest though, This one is my favorite. Being its more organized.
I'm probably gonna read some more before i got to sleep tonight.
Read all three of them. I fell in love with Katniss. But uh.. No dice bro. She's a fictional character *headdesk*.
Read all three of them. I fell in love with Katniss. But uh.. No dice bro. She's a fictional character *headdesk*.Spoiler: Highlight to viewHer enemies used to be tributes just like her. But then each and every single one of them took some of her arrows to their collective knees. Sexiest archer alive.
If there is ONE thing i learned about you. You have a thing for fictional characters.
For the most part, they're like so much more capable of emotion than the "real" people I see walking around me. Sheeple. Wake up sheeple. Wake up and love something. Anything. LOL.
The Hunger Games sounds like a awesome series from what I've heard, but i'm already reading so many series right now. I just can't get to it (Eragon series, Rangers Apprentice series, Percy Jackson series.) And those are all great books in case anyone hasn't read them. But yeah, some time i wanna read the Hunger Games
I absolutely loved that japanese battle royale movie. based on that, this could be something to look into.
how long is the books/s?
They're actually not that long at all. Each one will take you maybe a few hours to finish.
And there's three of them.
Alright, at chapter five now. I actually liked chapter four. Near the end especially of the chapter. Haymitch is probably my favorite character. Cause he is bootleg.
We katniss asked him for advice and he replied"stay alive" i laughed so f*cking hard. Cause that's something i would've said. By now in battle royale, three maybe four kids would be dead right now.
And that's just it. In battle royale.the event was kept a secrect. So no one was trained for that. They were picked , dropped off and expected to kill each other. Till one was left standing.
Nobody is trained in the Hunger Games either. One day is not enough for training, the only ones that have a chance of succeeding are people like Katniss, who used archery for years to hunt for animals illegally and get food for her family. Her bow skills are her biggest characteristic.
I've read up to chapter nine. Damn good!. I really.Really !!!!!! hope they don't twilight this book up in the movie.
EDIT:
D.A.Z. i fell in love with katniss after this picture. BTW thats the actress who's gonna be playing her.
Hothothothothothothot
I've never seen a picture of her before!
Pretty cool, but I imagined her hair a little bit redder in my mind. Don't know why haha.
Finally got into the actual games today.
Still enjoying?
Oh yes. I might actually buy all three books to own myself. Just in case we don't get through all three of them in class.
I think the second half of the book is better than the first. I loved how katniss used her equipment to strap herself in the tree. Also, as i mentioned, i think the biggest surprise was peeta teaming with the C.T's. its a smart move. But kind of makes peeta look weak.
Wow, I didn't realize that you were reading it in school! Bold choice; it's pretty violent.
I don't know if you discussed this in your class, but I LOVE how one of the biggest inspirations for the author was "American Idol" - how people are prepped and prettified for their "performances" in the arena, in order to attract support from the populace which might help them survive. F'ed up, that is.
I hope you read all three books.
We kinda did. But not in much detail.
Well only five more chapters to go. My teacher doesn't like Susanne's writing. So she said its highly possible we wont be reading Catching fire as a class .
Also. I drew another hunger games pic today. Instead of just katniss, i drew katniss and Peeta. Katniss was standing in front of Peeta, bow and arrow in hand. Peeta was behind her(right side),hold a dagger, leaning his foot on a rock. They both frontward.
I told my friend to drop it off to my English teachers room for me,running late for my next class. So when i got to her class room, she showed the drawing, praising it. But then she asked the class what did the poses represent. The class didn't really participate except two people. Then the teacher explained what she got from the drawing:
Katniss's pose symbolizes her strong will. And her overall confidence. While Peeta is the more weaker character.
I was kinda shocked. That she got more out of this rough sketch than i did.And i drew the damn thing!.
I finished the book today on my own time. I had to travel to new york today(i''ll elaborate in the rant thread). And i must say that the hunger games has made it to my favorite novel of all time. I-is that a bit to much?.
Anyway i love the ending to the games. It actually made me shed a tear. And the end of the book made me want to read catching fire right after.
Damn. I can't wait till i can read catching fire.
Cinna is on the left,Peeta on the right.
Gale and Katniss
The hunger games have become my lucy to D.A.Z. or my little pony to rob_88...Actually not that bad...yet.
Yay! I'm so excited for the movie. But I'm sorry you were hauled off to New York. After your stories of your awful school, that you would rather have been there instead of NY is even sadder.
Spoiler: Highlight to viewWasn't it terrible when the other tributes were turned into those beast things? Gaaaak!
I thought it was cool!. I was expecting them to go after Katniss the whole time.
She's a BAMF, EA. I like it.
Muttations >:(
BAMF?
BAMF?
According to the Urban Dictionary, it stands for Bad Ass Mother Fucker.
oh, i see.
i figured it was something similar to a MILF

I just started catching fire. I and a friend asked to borrow from our ELA teacher.(English). I've read up to chapter 4. Its slower than the first book. And when i started reading, I got a different feeling than when I read the first book. See the hunger games, from the first sentence, was intense. It was all about survival, for the sake of your loved ones. Catching fire though, i get a more relaxed feel when I was reading. Well i hope i get the same feeling i got reading hunger games in the later chapters.
I just started catching fire.
I hope you weren't too badly burnt.

Watchin' the hunger games in asstastic quality
Edit: Wow, the movie...wasn't that good.It was really short, left out A LOT.And f*cked with the ending of the games.
I'm disappointed.Very.
Catching fire though, i get a more relaxed feel
When catching fire, it's a good idea to relax and roll with it. That's probably why you weren't badly burned right there.

-____- AHAHAHAAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAHA...No.
Already over-half finished with the book.
I just saw the movie last night. Really good.
I noticed this awhile ago. But damn,Katniss eats a lot.
It IS the HUNGER games after all
Saw the movie. (Didn't read the books). Wasn't' overly impressed. Too much hype for what it was. It was still a decent movie, but nothing surprised me. No real twist that wasn't foreseeable. Decent plot. Okay action scenes, at times. I can honestly say that I only know 6 characters' names at the end of it all: Katniss, Peeta, Primrose, Gale, Cato and Rue (sp? on all).
Having not read the books, and talking to my wife that has, I figured two things might have made the movie better.
1 - Explain better why the games exist and how districts were formed. No one reads text at the beginning of movies, and even if you did, it wasn't too much info. Maybe have 15 additional minutes where they show clips of the revolution, clips of the capitol winning, clips of people being banished based on their part in the revolution, etc etc etc.
2 - They mentioned twice how your name gets in the metaphorical hat, that I can remember. Once when Katniss asked how many entries Gale had, and once with Katniss told Primrose not to take more food, it's not worth the entries. Again, this could have been part of the 15 minute docu-montage before "present day."
All that said, I'll probably see the sequel. May as well see this thing through.

The only thing that surprised me is that Woody Harrelson still finds work. It's all been downhill for him since Cheers ended. Haven't liked him in much since then. After looking up character names, I couldn't help but think of Howie Mandel every time they showed Caesar Flickerman (the TV host).
I agree Double Mcstab w/ cheese . The movie was way over hyped. I kinda feel dumb that i bought into that hype. It could have been a lot better than it was. Way too much was left out.
The first book of the trilogy arrived today and I'm going to start reading it tonight before I go to sleep. I'm quite excited to get stuck into it.
If it's any good I'll order the second and third books too.
Might be finishing Catching fire sometime this next week. Haven't been reading much.

You've been catching fire for that long?!
Forgive me, people. Sometimes I just can't resist.

Ha
I saw the movie last night. It was okay. Didn't really make me want to read the books. I want Crane's beard...
I've gotten to the third part in Catching Fire [Insert fire catching joke here]. I read almost non-stop these last four days. Lots of surprises. Awesome new characters.
Joey, i wanted Caesars teeth.
Ever wonder how you would fair in the games? Well now heres your chance.
May the odds be in your favor.
I watched the movie and it was decent. Looked like a lot of things were left out, some things had a very short duration I think would span about 150 pages in a book, but they did it in 15 minutes. Am I correct?
You are correct, Phi. The books are written in first-person narrative form (present tense), so it's really difficult to portray the multiple facets of the story in a third-person format.
For example: Katniss' relationship with Gale, her hunting partner. In the books, he is (in practical terms) the most important person in her existence, the one person she trusts absolutely and unquestioningly (and you can imagine how important that would be in a police state to have someone like that), not only to keep her safe but also to protect her mother and sister. She could never have become such an expert hunter herself without his training and challenging her.
Yet Gale was barely even a presence in the movie. I got zero sense of his place in Katniss' life, other than as sort of a "pal" that she hangs out with.
I got it from watching the movie and extrapolating from that. Also Gale's reaction to the whole PeetaxKatniss ordeal. But, yeah, that was one of the parts I thought would've been given more time in the book.
Also Gale's reaction to the whole PeetaxKatniss ordeal.
You know how they combine couple's names like "Brangelina" and "Bennifer"? Here Josh Hutcherson (who played Peeta Mellark) poses with the craziest sign created by Hunger Games fans:
Andy Richter's comment: "At least it wasn't Kat-Pee."
