What if...

You were the regent of a city where Assassins were known to strike, or you were a Templar Grand Master. Either way, you are responsible for the extermination of the Assassin Order. What tactics would you use to catch/kill the Assassins?
Hit me with your most creative ideas here.

My idea:
Place a hay cart next to the biggest church in the city. The hay cart has been rigged with spears. Evil What happens next is a very painful end to a leap of faith.
Honestly, I have had this idea ever since Altair jumped off the cathedral in Acre.

This won't work.

My eagle sense will not show a white hay cart (in the Animus). But for the Assassin in general, Eagle Sense would tell me something was off... If I can instinctively know guard patrol paths, you know I could find out where not to jump...

Good point.

How about turning the people against the Assassins? After all, they are the most frequent hiding spot. I've seen the movie 3:10 to Yuma recently and it learned me that people are easily persuaded, IF you offer them enough money, that is.
Only thing left for an Assassin then are haystacks. (Or rooftops, I realize now)

Note: this is of course purely hypothetical and just for fun. My reasoning abilities aren't functioning optimally right now.

Turning people against the Assassins has been tried, right?

The whole of AC1 was turning both sects of people against the common enemy of the Assassins.
The idea behind bribing the heralds in AC2-AC3 was to not let the people be turned against the Assassins...

I'm sure we can find a good way to deal with an Assassin. And I do think the best way is to turn the people against them. The problem with that though, is that the Assassins are always doing things that benefit the populace... Even if you can turn them, it's only a matter of time before an Assassin brings them home some flowers or pays their debt for them.

I feel like a Scooby Doo villain here... We can get away with everything if it weren't for those pesky Assassins...

Not a mission like that again. Please. No more...
I still have horrible nightmares about that aimless mission...
