I'm looking to hear other people's experience on the homestead usage and expansion.
When it was first introduced, I skipped the available mission to go add an artisan and went back to the story missions, figuring I'd come back to it later. Well, the mission disappeared and has never come back. A second one came up a couple sequences later, but that's it. I'm near the end of the game now and I can't get any new missions, so my homestead is stagnant. I can't do anything with just the one artisan.
Anybody have any insight? Also, how should I go about getting supplies for the crafting?
I guess what I'd really like to see is a walkthrough of how to use the homestead and craft and make money. The in-game explanation feels more like a refresher than an actual course, making assumptions that you already know things about it. It tells you how to do a few things without telling you why you would want to, then leaves everything else up to experimentation and guesswork. I lost a bunch of ingredients that I can't seem to replace now and got nothing out of it. And the animus help files don't say a thing about it.
I may have to wait a few days until more people have the game and play around with it, but that's fine. When I get the PC version I'll be doing it all again anyway. Might as well do it right.
Have you done the missions that ARE available to you?
If so and you cannot get any more Homestead missions, you may be experiencing the same glitch as me.
I have completed all the Assassination Contracts that were ever available to me and have finished all Delivery Requests I ever discovered, yet the game won't show me any more on the map, nor give me any more. This means I can't 100% it. Anyway, do tell if that's what you're suffering from.
EDIT: The walkthrough you want to see, I'll try my best;
Crafting stuff requires you to have the necessary items in your Stockpile.
First, begin by going to the Crafting menu and highlighting the BIG Circle at the very right. This is your Recipe. When you click on this, you can look around for any recipes in any item field that you've managed to collect, find or unlock so far.
Click on any Recipe you want and we'll go to the next part.
Now, to the left you will see, in the following order..
1. The Artisan(s) Required and their Required Level(s) of Crafting
2. The Material(s) Required
3. Your selected or discovered Recipe.
To be safe, never craft something without a recipe.

Could be. I've noticed that some assassination and other white-icon missions won't actually show up until you're within 100 meters or so of them. Several times I had nothing on the map and that part of the map was already fully explored, yet new things would pop up when I would be running around there later.
That's probably what you're experiencing. Short of waiting for a patch (if we ever get one), you'd have to run around everywhere looking for it.

I was more referring to how to obtain ingredients, how to use caravans to make real money, stuff like that. Basically the actual overall usage, not specific things like "Click on this, then this..."
That last line is great advice though. That's the exact mistake I made and lost stuff I can't get back.
