IT HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IT'S FINALLY BACK!!! (though probably three years away haha)
I'm right there with you. Big fan of the series. I'm also impressed that the announcement moved you enough to change your profile picture after recently stating that you would probably never change it.
It'll stay that way until the trailer, then it's back to Altair.
Not sure im looking forward to this. I think I have become extremely bias towards sequals now... with MGS4 turning into a big easter egg, ACB turned out badly, and I honestly wasnt that happy with GTA IV. I found GTA IV so boring compared to the PS2 GTA games, I still play the PS2 versions in fact. Towards the end of GTA IV I ended up taking taxis everywhere to finish it as fast as possible, as I dragged the game out so long.
Hope this is an improvement.

Someone needs to play Batman: Arkham City.
Someone needs to play Batman: Arkham City.
This answer should be used with every doubtful comment.
The cynic in me would say that Rocksteady making a good sequel doesn't mean anything about Rockstar making a good sequel, but the part of me that IS me loved GTA 4 and Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, despite whatever flaws they had.
There is no perfect way to find out if you're going to like a game or not, wether you're thinking in terms of it being a developer, a sequel, a movie tie-in, or in a genre you haven't liked in the past.
Besides the ultimate test of actually playing it, of course.
For example, most you guys liked Assassin's Creed, but you didn't like the sequel as much. Was it garunteed that you wouldn't like it because it was a sequel? No. It could have been a game that you liked more, but the descisions made by the people making it didn't end up causing that. Instead, it made mainly people who disliked the original game happy, though of course not all of them.
Long story short, it's great that you have an opinion, but unless you actually play the game, it's never going to be certain what you think of it.
Of course, we can observe things that make it less likely for us to like it, but I don't think you should count it out.
From the picture I have of some of the more prominent member's here's likes and dislikes, I find it highly likely that Revelations is not going to be enjoyed by you very much.
But really, in the end, you never know.
No one is saying GTA V is going to be bad. All that was said was the hopes/concerns based on the last installment will influence how some will look at the next one. People do that all the time. It's in our nature, and that's why we have discussion forums like these to express these ideas.
B:AC - My Batman fantasy has come to life! Everything was an improvement!
AC:B - Gameplay wise, it was a huge achievement. It expanded Ezio's movepool and made him even more deadlier. However, it was a very sloppy game, as they were a plethora of glitches and bugs. Also, the story was lacking in substance and development.
I'm not saying for you guys not to discuss it. I'm just saying: anything can surprise you.
And Ves, yes, you're right, it had quite a lot of bugs.
But no-one seems to bring them up when they're talking about what they didn't like about the game, at least here.
They talk about how they don't like the changes or additions to mechanics or story or visuals, which are all things that, while they might not have liked, other people did.
Which is OK.
But yeah, personally for me, bugs are the only thing that I totally hate and can't look past in that particular game. Everything else is either too minor a problem for me, or something I love.
But really, that's been the case for each Assassin's Creed. The good thing about them using the same basic gameplay system is that they get to have the advantage of a lot of their bugs being cracked down on from previous development, which is useful on a yearly release schedule.
More bugs than AC2 came through on Brotherhood, which I'm assuming can be attributed to the yearly thing, but at least they came from new and interesting things being added, and at least there is less chance of that happening with AC:R, what with each section of the game being more compartmentalized, giving each team more ability to focus on making it work.
Back onto GTAV, I really hope they try to adress the clunkiness of the movement and shooting controls. I loved GTA4, but it's really tough to do pretty much ANYTHING in-game.
Trailer is F-king awesome!
And it's back to Los Santos as almost everyone thought.
Fantastic. Looking very forward to this:
That looks incredible. When does it come out?
Well as FLAE said, and based on previous experiences, you may even see it in the next console generation, so I'm guessing its 2013-2014.

Most likely July 2012.

Not that surprising, while it looked good it was obviously not next-gen stuff.
I find that remarkably early. I didn't think next-gen but I was strongly considering Late 2012, early 2013 with the latest being April 28th, 2013 (five years after the release of GTA IV).
However, this is still welcome news. Also, I have a theory (probably a wrong one) about the main character of the game. It has been proclaimed that the narrator of the trailer has somewhat of an Irish accent. My theory is that after the events of GTA IV the McReary family is in shambles with either Francis or Derrick dead, Kate possibly being dead, Gerald in prison, and Patrick left with nothing but his aging mother Maureen and, of course, Niko. At some point (in a similar fashion to GTA III), Gerald escapes from prison and flees to the other side of the country to start a new life and lie low for a while. But, being the man that Gerry is, he can't escape his past life, and that's what opens up the next game. Patrick would probably make an appearance at some point if this were the case.
It would be cool if they decided to do this, but I doubt they will. More than likely there is a new protagonist. Also, I'm pretty sure at some point I saw CJ from San Andreas in the trailer (which I guess was bound to happen), so there will more than likely be some character cameos from other games.
Also, some how, some way, Brucie needs to get his ass over to the West Coast. He and his brother were the best NPC's in a Grand Theft Auto game ever with the exception of Amir from The Ballad of Gay Tony.
i never took the GTA games seriously , every time i play gta i don't do any missions.... i just kill stuff lol. and i might give my first real playthrough to a similar style game. saints row lol.
No you won't. Saints Row is even less serious than Grand Theft Auto is, and they're embracing their over-the-top antics with Saints Row The Third. It's impossible to play through Saints Row seriously. Grand Theft Auto gives you the option of becoming #1 on the most wanted list in about five minutes, but it never requires you to do so (well, maybe except for a few missions). Saints Row just has you go completely all out insane. If you want a more serious sandbox game, GTA IV is your best bet right now. Saints Row you'll just end up killing everything within a five mile radius then blowing up the entire city.
0_0 when you put it that way......... thanks ill try gta iv
Yeah, GTA has a bad reputation because of people ONLY playing it for the mayhem it allows. The stories are extremely fleshed-out and well-written. I didn't realize this until I played San Andreas. I was younger, but it was the first of the series that I actually paid attention to. GTA IV topped that. I love Niko!
I didn't meant it looked like next-gen stuff, but recinsidering it, it does look pretty fleshed out already. I still think it will go into 2013 thou.
I agree with the Saints Row vs. GTA stuff here, GTA really is more about that criticism of reality and serious tone, SR on the other hand is just bats**t crazy, and both games are great in there own way. Although I considered both San Andreas and Gay Tony to be pretty crazy too.
Saint's Row can be played however you like it, it's just they make sure that whatever you do makes sense within the context of the story, meaning that the story allows for any level of crazy you want. It's a game where they take the stupid things that players do like punching civillians or riding on top of cars or dancing and turn it into a legit gameplay mechanic.
It's a lot easier to take the kind of things you try to do in sandbox games anyways seriously than to take most of the "immersive" things in GTA4 seriously. Seriously, why do all these people have no way of coping if I don't go bowling with them, or play some other horrible mini-game? And really? I just fell off a cliff after being shot to death by police officers, and I'm being let out of the hospital later the same day? Stop kidding yourself and just respawn me.
Sometimes taking too much effort to try to suspend the player's disbelief can have the opposite effect.
But yeah, Saint's Row and GTA are two different flavours.
