Oh, I thought combos were triggered when Altiar's sword hit that of an enemies *clang* and then press attack again. I found that almost impossible to do. Thanks for this brilliant video, I enjoyed it very much!

That's correct. You won't actually get the kill animation unless the guard's hitpoints are sufficiently low. al-Assas finally uncovered the complete game mechanics of combo kills in this article.

Defence break>heavy attack is maybe a better tactic. I'll get practising.
