I just watched the entire Evangelion series with my cousin when I went to visit my family for the holidays, this image summarizes my thoughts after the twenty-sixth episode:
I'm watching the first movie tonight in hopes that it clears some things up, but in the event that it doesn't (in fact, I'm anticipating it will open up even more questions) I'm open to discussing it with anyone else who has seen it.
I should also probably note that other than stuff as a kid like DBZ I've never watched any anime before.
i never watched it, suggestion...black butler.
what is Evangelion?
like a spoiler free summary?

I've been thinking of watching Evangelion immediately after the anime I'm currently watching (Toradora!)
I hear it's pretty great. I'm just really loving Toradora! right now..
Okay the movie answered most of my questions but now I'm incredibly depressed. Seriously, I haven't been this depressed by something I've played/watched since the ending of Red Dead Redemption.
Please, as many people as possible watch this series so that I'm not alone (oddly enough, you'll see the irony of this statement once you've watched it). It is incredibly wonderful and extremely short (I finished the whole thing with my cousin in four days, its only twenty-six episodes and a few movies). I'd love to discuss it with all of you since you all seem like enlightening people

Oh man. I just got the "so I'm not alone" irony.. That was both scary and depressing to find out. Also a DAMN huge spoiler. So I'm not gonna say it haha
I barely remember anything from Evangelion, I need to rewatch it as well as Cowboy Bebop.
I don't know if there are big anime fans in here(apart from EA of course), but has somebody seen One Piece? All my friends are telling me to watch it, but again, all my friends loved Dragonball: GT so...

I am a big anime fan, and One Piece is good and all buut.. It's way too long. And it's still on-going.
For me, the short anime (25 episodes/13 episodes each) are much better because being able to pack in enough story in that short time-frame speaks good things about its creators. Also, they spend less of my time. 25 episodes is a lot better than watching 300 episodes (Maybe that's just me.)
On that note, I could recommend you some fairly amazing anime, which many people will tell you are great as well.
Keep in mind though, that I watch anime of every genre so one kind of story may not interest you as much etc.
Toradora!
Angel Beats!
Code Geass
Clannad (and Clannad Afterstory for the full story)
Mirai Nikki
Guilty Crown
Neon Genesis Evangelion
Gundam SEED (watch the new Remastered one, I believe 1 ep is coming out per week, and Episode 1 came out yesterday Other than that it's the same as the original Gundam SEED).
Those up there are my favorite anime of all time.
Shakugan no Shana is decent, but it's three seasons (72 Episodes) long and I don't think you wanna invest that much time in it.
Also, an anime that I thought was alright, but to every other anime fan is GODLIKE (I can't feel that way for some reason) is Fullmetal Alchemist. Everybody loves that show haha. It's also damn long though.
I'm planning on watching the Rebuild movies for Evangelion this weekend (there are two so far that have been released, another will be released this fall and another in 2013). I'm quite excited because I have heard nothing but wonderful things.
Also, James, REWATCH IMMEDIATELY. IT IS BEAUTIFUL.
Also, for those familiar with the term, my cousin likes to joke that his waifu is Ramiel (aka the sixth angel from Evangelion). Here is "her" picture:
He's mad because she's kind of a slut, exposing her core for everyone to see...
