Elgato Game Capture Help

Okay, so I want to record a video with my Elgato Game Capture, but Windows says the device isn't functioning properly, and thus the software can't connect with the Elgato.
However, on the rare occasions Windows does not throw a hissy fit, which is very rare, the software works fine.
Anyone else with these problems?

Haven't had those problems myself. I have a Windows 7 Home Premium laptop with all the updates installed for Elgato.
Have you messed with the settings so it connects to the console? There should be an option to select PS3, Xbox 360, iPhone, etc as your desired device.
