Notes on the stunt
Setting it all up is pretty easy. The vid just shows one way, using throwing knives to alert Abul.
Crucial when performing this stunt is timing. Had I jumped a fraction of a second later, I would have missed the target. Had I jumped a fraction of a second earlier, I would have had to wait for Abul, which takes away from the stunt.
Flight pattern
What's funny here is Abul's flight pattern. If you're relatively close (within 20 metres or so, I don't know since I don't play with the minimap on), he'll start to run. If you get really close (5 metres or so), he'll start to sprint. Otherwise, he walks and sometimes even stops walking, as shown in the vid. This flight pattern gives you plenty of time to set up stunts and the like. If you screw up, you can go the opposite direction and go in for an easy kill because he's running towards you. I'd rather kill myself (plenty of water in the palace), but it's a possibility.
Another effect of the flight pattern is that I haven't been able to pull off an air-to-assassinate on Abul. Even when I hit the assassinate button as soon as possible, I still miss because Abul's sprinting. This is weird, because it works when he's sprinting and you're doing a normal high-profile assassination. Maybe someone else will be able to pull it off.
In any case, I hope you enjoyed the vid. Thanks!
Wow, nice assassination! I like how people are still coming up with cool kills and ideas in AC.
The lack of air assassination makes the kill better as the blood clouding, when you take damage from jumping, adds to the effect!
Wonderful!
I always fail to make anything stylish out of this one, and I end up chasing after him.
Same It's good to see it done properly
Wow, thanks for the compliments, guys. It's appreciated.

There's a difference between doing a stunt like this and air assassination. A stunt requires you to take damage, whereas an air-to-assassinate never has you take damage. I found out that I couldn't air-to-assassinate while playing around.
No don't worry I was actually complimenting you. Its better as a stunt than as an Air Assassination, and you mentioned in the Op that an Air Assassination wasn't possible
The blood makes it look cool and, of course, the damage qualifies it as a stunt. Shame you can't do an Air Assassination but it looks cool as a stunt
Yeah, I knew that. It just sounded to me as if you thought air assassination (like Ezio can do in ACII) was possible.

Now I'm getting confused. I consider AC1's "air to assassinate" and AC2's "air assassination" to be the same move. There are a few differences, most notably the controls and the range.
In AC1, an air to assassinate may fail to connect when the target is sprinting. I assumed that's what you encountered with Abu'l.
I agree stab. I consider them the same move but it is often much much harder and more annoying in AC

Which was what I was getting at. I phrased it a bit clumsily, but it sounded to me as if Patrick meant that you could just press X and then fly the rest of the distance and land on top of the guy.
Oh no I knew you couldn't. Sorry about that. I phrased what I said pretty badly too.
What I meant to say was it's a shame the Air Assassination isn't possible/easy but it looks cool, even without it

I actually prefer this type of (dynamic) stunt: dropping down from high, then 'executing' the target instead of merely stabbing him.
nicely done. if i recall correctly, fleeing targets will walk until you are 15 meters from them. at 15 meters, they will pause and "startle" before running again. a unique flight behavior of abul is that he will sometimes "help" you during a stunt assassination by inserting a waypoint at your landing spot. you can see this behavior in this video at 2:34, where there is a sudden kink in abul's flight path.

another interesting feature of fleeing targets is that the ones with bows will shoot at you if they see you more than a certain distance way (maybe 15 meters). most players see this behavior with talal, but sibrand also does this as well.
Very impressive video
