...that when you used eagle vision to scan the assassin's near the first viewpoint of the kingdom, one of them appeared in red, meaning it was an enemy. Any special reason for this, or just an easter egg?
James, do you remember at the beginning of the game the traitor that opened the gate that let the Templars into Masyaf? Well, there were two of them, one of them we got to witness their execution at the hands of Al Mualim. The other one still resides outside of Masyaf's walls. The one we got to see executed was Masun, and the other was Jamal. Masun told Jamal to head for Damascus but Altair pickpocketed the message that told Jamal to do so, and so he stayed in Masyaf. Once we use Eagle Vision we can determine that Jamal is one of the guards outside of Masyaf's gate. It's technically part of the story, but we refer to it as an Easter Egg.
If you want more details you can talk to stab, or watch his video "Eagle's Hunt", which explains the easter eggs, including the Masun-Jamal incident in full.
We had a discussion on this topic at the AC Maps Forum. You'll find Rob and Stabby's feelings on the subject (which I and many others happen to agree with) here.
Oh, thank you FLAE, I actually thought the traitor escaped and never seen again.
Link is kinda broken.
Just thought I'd let you know.
EDIT: Link is repaired.
Just thought I'd let you know. LOL.
EDIT2: Also, I very much enjoy Stealth Assassinating Jamal. I find it kind of funny how guards don't notice Low Profile Assassinations even though it's so exaggerated. Especially in AC2, when the whole Blade sticks right out of the guy's chest, and blood spurts onto the adjacent guard's nostrils.
(Low profile stab) "..Did you sneeze?"
There's a common misconception that if you assassinate Jamal the other Assassins will attack. At one time AC-Wiki stated this as if it were a fact. That's why I demonstrated a stealth assassination (without even Blending) in Eagle's Hunt.
Another piece of trivia on AC-Wiki is that Jamal was going to be an assassination target but was cut from the final game. While I agree that this is a likely explanation, it doesn't meet the wiki's own stated attribution policy. Unless Ubisoft confirmed the Jamal mission it's just speculation by fans. I once added a "citation needed" tag to the statement and it was deleted within a week - not the speculative statement, my tag!
That's about the time I gave up on AC-Wiki. Their sections on gameplay are often factually incorrect or describe poor play. For example, do you know the circumstances of Abu'l Nuqoud's death? According to the wiki, "Abu'l tried to escape as fast as his form could carry him. Giving chase, Altaïr managed to catch up and assassinate Nuqoud." So Altaïr failed to stealth assassinate Abu'l onstage. Huh. That's not how I remember it going down.
The guards always attack me when I stab Jamal. Except when I rush there with my horse, jump off, and stab him before he gets close to the other guards.
It's the PC version. Maybe the rules of getting noticed are different on the PC version.
I believe the game mechanics are the same as other guards. They see the dead body and walk over to it. If you're still standing there, they attack. The thing about Jamal is that they don't have far to walk!
The trick is to either Blend or walk away quickly.
No. They attack at the moment I stab him. Tried a thousand times.

I think their history is a little confused as well. One thing I'm very adamant about and wish to make a write up on after I'm finished reading all these forums (if I ever finish lol) is the timeline and circa history for Darius I, Xerxes, and Darius II. Apparently the persian assassin Darius I assassinated Xerxes who is Darius' son. Following the timeline on how that ensued is tricky because there are parts where it seems that Darius II was the assassin, but Wikipedia states something along the lines of Darius II avenging Xerxes by killing another man, who wanted Xerxes spot...on the throne, I think? I need to look into it alot more, but I was really hoping to adress this akward timeline with fellow THBM's
