Everyone seems to be worried that Desmond will eventually end up like S16 and go crazy but i can't help but think things may turn out differently. Abstergo forced S16 to relive specific memories in order to find what they wanted, Desmond on the other hand is taking it slow. Reliving each of his ancestor's memories in sequence leading up to the final memory, maybe by doing that he won't go completly insane like S16.
Who knows but like Rebecca says, "It's a nice thought."
it's better for Desmond to be in the Animus. Maybe it helps keep the ancestor and host memories from bleeding together to much.
I see it like having a song stuck in your head that just won't go away. It's random, it's disjointed, and it just won't stop. You can wait until it makes you crazy or you can just play the song and listen to it to at least keep it focused and on track.

That's one way to look at it.
Sorry for the off topic, but I have to say this. Apparently Ubisoft has said they're releasing another "main" Assassin's Creed game next year, but it's STILL not ACIII. Maybe the Russian one? Based on the comic? I'm not sure. Hold on, I'll try to find some sources of this rumor. If it is true, then we'll definitely find out what happens to Desmond.
I'd like to see one based on Shaun reliving his Viking ancestors.
Yeah at this point, I can't see them ever straying out of Desmond's scope, but it really is "A nice thought".
The Bleeding Effect is getting worse with each new installment. First he gained Eagle Vision, but now he's hallucinating...
I don't know. Maybe he'll kill himself, or forced to relieve some of his OWN personal memories in order to counterbalance it.
That's a cool concept too, reliving some of his own supressed memories? I like that alot, even if it's only toward the last couple..."Memory blocks" for lack of a better term?
Isn't that what the 5 Desmond sequences in ACR were? Desmond had a fractured consciousness... He found the data fragments in the animus, and when he had enough to put together the memories he was able to relive memories from his past to help him distinguish who he was - Desmond. Not Ezio, not Altair, but Desmond.

That's actually a very good point. I think that yes, the Bleeding Effect did get worse with every subsequent game, but at the end of Revelations it actually started getting better. Shaun once said, "[The Bleeding Effect] would be grand, if anyone could control it. Unfortunately, no one has."
Desmond seems to be starting to control it, and control it very well.

Maybe....
I mean, ACR was just... "Oh shit! I'm in a coma! Who am I? Oh yeah... I'm starting to remember... I'm Desmond!"
I mean, the VERY END of ACR, when Desmond snaps out of it, maybe that's him finally controlling the several memories in his body/brain/consciousness. He's finally able to remember who he is and who his ancestors are... and by finding the memory nexus (the Apple is all that holds the 3 together), he was able to conquer it.
Personally, I think he's far from done battling the effects. I'm expecting some more Desmond "oh shit, here we go again" moments.... but time will tell.
At the beginning of ACR, Desmond remembers Lucy, Rebecca, and Shaun. He even remembers he's in the Animus. I don't think he forgot who he was. Especially when he yells, "Rebecca! Get me out of here!"
I would like to see more Bleeding Effect moments in Assassin's Creed III. They're some of my favorite parts of the games.

Correct... but I took the game as "I need to figure out what's real and what's not. Otherwise my brain will melt and I won't get out of this coma and I'll live here forever like Clay."
He may know he's Desmond... but his memories were supremely clouded and shit needed to get figured out.
True McStab, even Clay's memory knew who he was and what he was doing, but his physical being (brain mainly) couldn't comprehend the multitasking and transitioning, so he became ghost#16!!
Hey guys, what movie..... "He always believed that there were ghosts in the machine."
Also I forgot about Desmond's memory relapse, I was more hoping he'd crack into stuff about his past on the Farm with his dad, maybe some recollection of Lucy when they both were kids...something twisty anyways
I was hoping we'd have some kid-Desmond free running on the Farm, but instead we got THAT garbage.

I believe that was I Robot with Will Smith. Here's one of the quotes from the movie:
Dr. Alfred Lanning: [voiceover] There have always been ghosts in the machine. Random segments of code, that have grouped together to form unexpected protocols. Unanticipated, these free radicals engender questions of free will, creativity, and even the nature of what we might call the soul. Why is it that when some robots are left in darkness, they will seek out the light? Why is it that when robots are stored in an empty space, they will group together, rather than stand alone? How do we explain this behavior? Random segments of code? Or is it something more? When does a perceptual schematic become consciousness? When does a difference engine become the search for truth? When does a personality simulation become the bitter mote... of a soul?
40 Uplay points for Aurel!! It was I robot, just made my day
