Welcome to Constantinople, an interesting place to be an Assassin. Here, we have our ways of doing things.
Yusef: Ezio, where is your hookblade?
Ezio: My hookblade?
Yusef: You've never seen one?
Yusef: The hookblade helps you get around fast...suprise guards...and is not too bad in fights either. Maybe one can hook someone, or just pick their pockets. And with our ziplines, you can take to the air. The standard Ottoman hookblade has 2 parts, you see. The hook...and the blade, so you can use one or the other. An elagent design. Just the edge you need in a city like this, but not too worry - we are just getting started.
Me: GIMME. GIMME. GIMME. GIMME!
I wonder if "...the hook, and the blade/one or the other..." means that Yusuf is being Captain Obvious, or that the hookblade is triggered separately from the normal one.
Good thinking, Calvar! Many people have tried to figure out the triggering mechanization of the hiddenblade.
Altair's blade required a flex from the pinkie. However, in real life, that would cause some trouble, especially if he's trying to catch a ledge, or grip his sword. He might accidentally slice his digits off! Ezio's blade has no visible no visible triggering mechanism, so one can assume that it has to be inside the bracer. But that alone could cause even more problems.
Then again, this is just one of those weird video-game mishaps. It's not suppose to make sense, so the player just goes along with it. How come Ezio can roll with a crossbow on his back? How come his hood always remain in the exact same position? How come Assassins wear white robes, yet rarely get them dirty?
Alas, who truly knows...
