online or local... do games even do this anymore?
i think halo does (haven't played in a while). what other games do this though?
will AC ever have a campaign co-op, even if it's not the main story? my guess is, sadly, no.
Portal 2. Loved the multiplayer coop mode.
Was that local or online? Been thinking about getting that one...
Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 1&2 are three games that still have local co-op; and they do it well. Those are the only ones I can think of at the moment that are worth playing.
Co-op Assassin's Creed sounds good.
Which means Ubisoft isn't going to make it happen.
I believe Modern Warfare 2 had a bunch of Co-Op missions, but they weren't story mode. The three in the hardest tier were laughably difficult to finish.

Second. Most fun I've had in coop ever.
does anything, by chance, have an online co-op? none of my local friends play xbox, but I have a few across the country that do.
also, is playing portal 1 crucial to playing and understanding portal 2?
Ive played portal 2 but not portal 1. P2 was still very enjoyable without the background of p1 but u may wish to look up the story to p1. Ive also finished the local coop with a friend. We both really enjoyed it.
Portal 2 features online coop. That's exactly what I enjoyed.
Holy crap. An Ian sighting!
Thanks for the intel guys. I've been looking into getting Portal 2 for months now... and just may get it with all the recommendations here... if I see it on super sale, even better.
I have since bought Portal: Still Alive (Portal 1 in the XBLA) and beat it. I also found Portal 2 on sale and got that and it will be delivered this week.
I really really enjoyed Portal. It makes you think and is all puzzle solving. However, how did I beat the game without unlocking a single achievement? Not even one for beating the game? I didn't know games did that... hahaha.
Portal is, as you have experienced, not your regular game.
I want to resurrect this thread for two reasons.
First, I started Portal 2 this last weekend. It's fantastic. The game has a remarkable knack for frustrating me one moment then making me laugh out loud (literally) the next. At one point, my wife in the other room laughed and asked what the hell kind of game it was (talking about throwing science at the wall to see what sticks).
Secondly, what is the excuse for the AC series to not have co-op now?
The whole premise behind ACIV (and presumably beyond) is that the Animus technology has advanced enough to let anyone live anyone else's memories. They have countless researchers at Abstergo Entertainment researching key moments in a person's history... why can't two people research / experience it at once?

Maybe they'll use that idea to introduce co-op in one of the next games in the coming years. Maybe the 2014 entry?
I happened to play some Portal 2 last night also. It's hard to tell if I'm getting near the end but already it has been much longer than Portal 1. More good science jokes coming up. I won't spoil them for you.
I'm up to "Chapter 7" ... whatever that means.
It is MUCH longer than the first one, and I have enjoyed it a lot so far.
By comparing the dates on our achievements, Cheese, it looks like we finished Portal 2 around the same time. Maybe we should do the co-op campaign now. *shakes fist at time zones*
This was my favorite line about science:
I freaking loved Cave Johnson.
I finished last Thursday. I was home for the day trying to get my mind of my grandfather who had passed that morning. I couldn't be at work, so came home and ultimately resorted to video game therapy. Cave Johnson certainly helped with that.
You are in Hawaii, right Stab? So... 6 hours behind me? That leaves a day you want to play in the morning or early afternoon... I'm typically a morning gamer, so unless you're up at 3-4 am still. haha
*shakes fist at time zones*
Also, I found the ending pretty easy to figure out... moon dust was responsible for the portal conversion gel, shoot the moon.
Overall, a very solid game. Thanks to everyone in this thread for recommending it to me.
found this gem today related to Portal... rather than post it elsewhere, i'll just put it here because we've discussed Portal enough already... haha
So, this isn't EXACTLY related to a co-op campaign, but I didn't know where else it fit in the forum...
Has anyone else read about/kept up on the seamless multiplayer component for Watch_Dogs??
Basically, it works like this:
1 - Player A wants to play multiplayer Watch_Dogs.
2 - Player A gets a contract out on player B.
3 - Player A is transported to player B's singleplayer world.
4 - Player B is still playing single player Watch_Dogs.
5 - Player A is disguised as an NPC in player B's world.
6 - Player A gets close enough to player B to hack them and upload a virus to their smart phone.
7 - Player B notices he is being hacked (in his single player world, mind you) and searches for someone up to no good.
8 - The longer player A evades player B's detection, the more points/experience/leveling his character gains.
9 - Player B spots player A, and a chase is initiated.
10 - (Somehow) Player A leaves player B's world... both now back in single player modes.
No loading screens.
No game lobbies.
No need to actually wait for people to want to play multiplayer with you.
Not really multiplayer (as I've ever seen before), but more of an added component to let you know how connected EVERYTHING in the game universe is.
(Note: Player B's world can only be infiltrated when in free roam, not on missions).

Yes, this is another game I'm excited for. I love the new ideas it's bringing to gaming.

...sooooo basically Dark Souls PvP?
...sooooo basically Dark Souls PvP?
Keeping in mind I don't play many games.... looked it up... yep, seems similar. It was just so foreign to me, as the multiplayers I'm used to are FPS or sports in nature, where it's always obvious that you are in multiplayer modes.
Sounds fun!
But what if you just want to free-roam on your own without distractions like that? Is there a option for turning off PvP 'invasions'? I'm not a multiplayer guy, so I can imagine myself freaking out everytime some stranger hacked my phone again.
Yes. You can turn off invasions.
Joey... when will you be on this weekend?
Joey... when will you be on this weekend?
Anytime you need me on Saturday. That's the only day on the weekend I have off.
Joey:
Played some last night. It was hilariously fun for a bit.
I will probably play more tonight and tomorrow (Saturday) late afternoon.

So I finally played Portal 2's coop mode yesterday. My buddy came over and we started it at about 1130. About 6 hours later we finished. It was immensely fun.'
Portal 2 may be one of my favorite games I've played (up there with Perfect Dark and Super Mario Bros), and I feel it has immense replayability... probably because the humor in the game is second to none.
