WAY back when Assassins Creed was just a dream to us (we're talking almost three years ago now) the teardrop trailer aired on TV and our heartbeats stopped. One of the significant images I remember from that trailer was Altaïr standing atop one of the city walls of Damascus. Seen @ 1:17 in the trailer here:

What I would like to know is if there is any exploit that permits scaling any part of the Damascus wall so that we can get up there. Did we ever figure out how? Or was this shot most likely filmed after a Dev initiated "Fly Like an Eagle" mode in a demo?
I'm sure it was from very early in development. The entire area around there looked different. The locations changed a lot during development.
Just for reference, a portion of the clip you're talking about was also used in the AC2 opening video.
If you go into Damascus, and go right down to the burial location of Majd Addin (david's citadel) and then go left keeping parrallel with the city wall there are a few places were Altiar can almost reach the inner ledge. However I have not tried to climb directly up the wall from the outside.
