i just gotta make a topic about this. the chat is stupid in an awesome way.
whenever you write a naughty word it is bleeped for everyone except for whoever writes it.
like if i write the F-word. this what i see:
ROB_88: fuck
but everyone else see this:
ROB_88: ****
but to make things hilarious this is what happened when Lilk tried to write out "Shit" and this is what i saw:
'&apos oop'
apos opp sound completely random.
we need to make it a meme now
Don't type "Sodom" cuz it blocks everything except 'om'. Haha. You can't even refer to biblical terms.
i don't think it has much problems with "sodom" cause otherwise the two last letters would be stars also
it's the word "sod" which is apparenlty an insult or a piece of grass
Lesbos (the Greek island) and Sodom (the Old Testament city) are all blocked in chat here....
so is just about anything that starts with numbers - to protect from addresses. writing "100 feathers" was unnecessarily challenging.

I wish! AJAX runs on the local web server. Our web hosting service is pretty liberal with the exception of two rules: no chat servers and no porn (so try to keep the nudity to a minimum, lilk). That means we have to use an external chat server and "embed" a view here on The Hidden Blade. It's similar to how we embed YouTube videos. There weren't many options available. Meebo looked like the best of the bunch.
Well, looks can be deceiving I guess
I've installed another external chat service called "ParaChat" for evaluation. Enter the chat room by clicking on the Chat tab above. Please give it a try and report your opinions here. Next week I will decide whether to keep ParaChat or roll back to Meebo.
meebo is evil. parachat is awesome. check out parachat if you havent already.
Apart from the massive ads, it seems better. Stick with this please!
We had a good chat yesterday. ParaChat has many features. A couple of things we figured out were avatars and event sounds (i.e. an audible notification when someone enters the room).
To use avatars, go to the Options menu and check "Show Avatars". Then choose your own avatar by going to the Action menu and clicking "My Avatar".
Sounds are trickier. Under Options, expand the "Sound on Enter" submenu. You need to do two things there. Go all the way to the top and check "On", and then pick which sound you want to hear when someone arrives. Do the same for "Sound on Exit" and "Sound on New Text" if desired.
One "feature" of ParaChat is that it doesn't show you any history when you join. That's nice for privacy but less than ideal for passing offline messages when you're alone in chat. I'm thinking about adding a shoutbox to this page for times when chat is slow.
I haven't actually chatted with anyone yet, but ParaChat definitely looks better.
What's more, it appears that it will eventually have iPhone support. That means that I'll be able to chat on here while at work, which means I'll be far less productive (job-wise) in the future.
The best thing about Parachat is that now we no longer need to worry about horny 12 year old boys trolling for booty invading our THB discussions! Right Rob?
Too bad I can't access it for some reason. It tells me to enter a user name (I enter FLAE), I get there, it's a blank green screen with an IMVU add on top and google ads on the bottom. Ayudame por favor?
Are you using any sort of javascript blocker, like NoScript in Firefox? If so, check the permissions. I had to allow two URL's in order to load ParaChat.
If it's not that, make sure your computer has the latest version of Java installed.
I'm using Chrome, so I'm pretty sure it has the latest version of Java, and it doesn't have any script blocker, so that can't be the problem.
What do you mean by you had to allow two URL's? Do you mean two of the same address?
It's difficult to explain if you're not familiar with NoScript.
Java isn't a part of web browsers. It's a separate entity. Go to http://www.java.com and download the latest version for your OS.
at first glance the chat seems fine, but what's the deal with the thing asking for a password and having a button to log in without a password?
i don't understand that thing
It never asks me for a password.
really?!
am i the only one who gets this thing?
I got it once and Raptor also mentioned getting it. I'm not sure what conditions cause this dialog to appear.
In any event, I'm retiring Meebo and going with ParaChat. We'll figure out how to work around around its idiosyncrasies.
Strange, im just on it right now and it hasn't asked me. Mabye it's if you disconnect then reconnect or something?
Rob I get the password thing every time I try to log in.
What's the matter - don't you like big, natural boobs?
Ha ha. Parachat must have gotten our chat room crossed with a singles/adult one. When you connect with our chat it should say, "You have joined room: The_Hidden_Blade_Chat_Room". Usually there's nobody else there.
Frankly, I've sorta given up on looking because my habit is to log on here and chat at the same time, but no one is ever on chat, so I fell out of the habit of logging on there.....or noone really wants to talk to me /cry
I log on every once in a while, but if there's nobody on I rarely stick around for more than a minute or so.

Basically the same thing for me. I've had times where it said that there were a bunch of people on, including our two hosts, yet I would wait 20 minutes in chat and nobody ever shows up. So I've given up checking the chat altogether.
I have MSN, if anybody wants to connect on there.

I have MSN too. But the weirdest thing just happened and I had to close the account. When I signed in under my e-mail and password, my friend from WoW's account came up. I don't know if she still plays but I will try to contact her and ask her how her's and my account could have possibly been crossed up like that. Her and I have NEVER exchanged personal information. It's so weird.

Did you ever have a WoW forum account? The email address from those can be looked up online, I believe.
I don't know if you can still do it, but at least for a while it was possible to add somebody to your MSN contacts without them having to give permission. And that could automatically propagate them onto your contact list.
*shrug* That's about all I can think of. Worst case, you could always just remove and block the user and change the password.
