Anyone heard of or played the game Borderlands? Its really addictive and a great game...
Definitely a close second behind AC2 on my favorite games list
Its worth checking out if you haven't heard of it.
I have it in Queue with Gamefly...looks interesting...I'll let you know what I think about it if you care
I've heard that the concept of 86 billion guns gets annoying after a while. Any truth to this?
Sure lilk, let me know what you think about it.
Hell no FLAE! In fact, its awesome. Never gets boring because you find new and better guns all the time
I just read the preview for Mass Effect 2. OMG another game I can hardly wait to come out. It sounds 10 times better then the first one..I hope it holds true. I loved the first one and if the changes they are implementing are actually true...it should be awesome.

I don't know anything bout Mass Effect2, only heard is awesome, could you teel me what's it about and if it is coming out for 360?
James, Mass Effect is a 360 exclusive title, so yes.
Heh, I though it was for PS3 since not many of the "perfect" videogames come out for 360.
That's not true at all.
The 360's games are so much better than the PS3's games it's almost unfair.
Halo 3, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Ace Combat 6, Left 4 Dead, Rainbow Six Vegas (originally 360 only), Bioshock (also originally 360 only), Forza Motorsport 3, and many more are all 360 best talent games.
PS3 has Uncharted, God of War, MGS4... but that's really all.
Yeah I've always preferred 360's exclusives...
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "perfect" videogame. Name a perfect videogame for the PS3, hell, name a perfect videogame at all, I'll go out and buy it. There are no "perfect videogames"...
Actually, Metal Gear Solid 4 is the only video game in history that's gotten a 10/10 from IGN. It's probably as close to perfect as you can get.
You guys are right, maybe it's the way in which I see the console, they are both great consoles with great collections. Anyway, we should be happy caus there is more for us to enjoy!

Yeah, but every game has flaws, so there is no such thing as a perfect game IMO.

There have been others. Ocarina of Time is one of the more celebrated ones. Soulcalibur for Dreamcast also comes to mind.
Their 10's are less common these days, but IGN has definitely given out a number of them over the years. Take a look at this list of 10's just for GameBoy.

Haha! It's why I tolerate sending my 360 in twice a year for repairs

Let's put it this way, I rented Mass Effect and played it 4 times before I finally returned it. I would have bought it except it's Xmas season and not allowed (hehe) but I will own it and I don't think I'll bother renting ME2, I'll pay the 60 outright for it. That's how much I loved the game anyway. It's not an FPS, it's a 3rd person shooter. It's kinda Star Wars meets Rambo (if you ever played such games as the Force Unleashed or other Star Wars PC games where the choices you make determine your character).
Back on topic, I've finally gotten into Borderlands. It's a very well-made game. Lots of fun!
If anybody plays the PC version and wants to do some co-op sometime, let me know.
I started playing Borderlands this morning. I like it so far. I'm playing on the Xbox, sorry As
Ok, I am level 13 now, have mostly level 13 weapons and I'm still getting my ass kicked like crazy on a level 12 quest (supposedly). The one where I have to find the sniper rifle pieces. What am I doing wrong? I am the hunter, Mordecai. Yes, I spread my skill points evenly over the entire thing, sniper, bloodwing, and whatever the other is called, warrior?. That's probably where I screwed up, but sniper points don't help alot with all those skags. Man I hate those things!

It's best to specialize. If you spread out your points, your guy won't be very good at anything. I made this mistake the first time as well. Once I respec'd into the Bloodwing line (and leveled up some more), my hunter became scary good. He was a monster.
You also might not have been lucky with the random loot drops. Around level 9 or 10 I got a pistol with rapid firing speed and it did 3x fire damage. It was amazing. I continued to use that pistol until my level was in the late 20's. Fire rips through every enemy that has flesh, even those fully clad in armor. For skags and unarmored humans, it was especially powerful. Just fire off a few rapid rounds into a torso and then leave them to burn to death. Nothing like seeing streams of orange numbers pouring out of an enemy. Especially bosses.
Keep an eye out for good loot and make sure you don't accidentally sell something that might be good. Elemental properties are useful, like fire. You won't get the acid/corrosive one until later in the game, but it's almost as effective as fire. In some cases, it's more effective. Lightning sucks throughout the entire game, so always sell off those. They're good for dropping shields, but they do piddly damage to the target once their shields are down.
Try to stick to sniper rifles and sniper auto-rifles for your big gun, and auto-pistols or machine pistols for your secondary. Revolvers are too slow until later in the game. Get a good auto- or machine pistol with fire and then a sniper rifle with fast fire rate and you're golden.
I did get that pistol, I think I dropped it later though (Damn I knew that was a mistake!) I think it was a boss drop so anyone could get it. Thinking on it, I think I got it in skag valley from the chest when going for the herbs. I currently have sniper rifles (duh..hehe) and the machine pistols. I don't have a good shotgun though which was recommended for killing skags (by the hints on loading screens). I find the reload rate ridiculously realistic and it drives me nuts.
So should I start over and play the bloodwing aspect? Can I change my skill set? I can't regain that fire machine pistol but others offer the same ability to burn targets. Essentially what I'm asking is....am I screwed? lol
All loot in the game is randomly generated, except for boss drops. The pistol I had wasn't a boss drop, it was just lucky. Boss drops tend to be highly specialized – extremely powerful in one area and terrible in the others. I usually just sell off boss drops. I prefer weapons that are good for a variety of situations.
You can respec your character at the 'New You' station (or whatever it's called). You might not be able to do it early in the game though. But you will be able to at some point. I think it costs money though.
Another thing to consider is weapon specialization. The hunter is specialized in both types of sniper rifles and all three types of pistols. He begins with some skill in those weapon lines and will earn additional skill in them at a faster rate than other weapon types. If you try to use other types of weapons (shotguns, assault rifles, etc), they begin from zero skill level and move up slowly. At zero skill level, you're lucky to hit the broad side of a barn and I think the damage rating, recoil and reload speeds are negatively affected as well. I forewent that annoyance and just kept with pistols and snipers. Eventually you can hold four weapons. I ended up with a fast sniper with 3x fire, a super-rapid-fire auto-pistol that did good damage per shot, a slow revolver that hits like a truck (highest damage rating I saw in the game) and then I would carry around one of the 'special' weapons you get later that was good for....the situations it was made for. I don't want to spoil anything.
But suffice it to say, you don't need to skill up in other weapon types. You're already proficient in five, essentially. That might save you some frustration.
I was aware my proficiencies are in sniper rifles and pistols and that I would be weak in the other areas. I guess I'm not high enough yet to respec at the Nu U stations. I have to play more to say more about the levelling system. I'm not sure I have it right yet.
I got a bit annoyed with loot space. I want to pick up everything I can and sell it off because I hate being broke. But this game seems to give very little space. If you fill up on meds for health, it leaves very little space for weapons.
Also, what's with the loot gathering? You have to perfectly target money, ammo, weaps, w/e to pick them up. A bit annoying. Could have allowed a bit more 'leeway' on the X button there. Those 'insta-cast' health nodes are almost impossible to target and pick up when your running for your life. I feel like I am a sniper just to lay my crosshairs on them perfectly. Does anyone else understand what I mean by this?
I didn't have any issues picking up loot. In the beginning, I thought I had to look directly down at the loot and target it exactly to pick it up. But it turns out that you just face forward and in the general direction of the loot and it will show it's name on the screen. Just hit the button (X in your case) and it will be picked up. If there is multiple loot in close proximity, hold the button to pick up all nearby loot simultaneously.
The trick is the colored line that 'beams' upward from the item. If you approach the loot, as long as that line is generally near the center (horizontally) of your screen, you should be able to pick it up. You don't have to look down at it and you don't have to have the crosshair exactly on the line. Just near the line. Or, like I mentioned before, just hold the button to pick up any nearby loot as long as you're close enough to it. The button-hold move doesn't work for items off to the side or behind you, however. Just in a wide arc in front of you.
Carrying capacity is small at first. This is a Diablo-style game when it comes to loot. You have to be choosy about what you pick up because you can't come anywhere close to carrying it all. Just keep an eye on the prices listed on each item and only pick it up if it's worth a lot of cash. If you find an item worth more than the rest of the stuff you've got and your inventory is full, chuck the cheapest item you're holding to sell and pick up the new one. Don't forget to sell off your inventory every time you see a vending machine. Every time you zone into a new area or find a vehicle node, there are usually a couple vending machines nearby.
While the inventory starts out very small, you can upgrade it throughout the game. Often when you're sent into obscure areas, especially underground or cave areas, you will find a claptrap on its back, smacking its arms against the ground and whimpering. It's broken and needs repair. Accept the mission from it and find the toolbox and then return. It will give you an item that when used gives you a permanent increase to your carrying capacity (3 units). There are a lot of these claptrap missions spread throughout the game.
Ha! I never noticed any of the claptraps! I'm thinking I'm going to start the game over before I get too deep into it and have to live (or die) with my mistakes. Now that I have a feel for the game and what to expect, I can make better choices. I'm just debating on whether to keep the hunter or go with Roland. I tend to pick the soldier types in these games anyway. (Like ME2, never played anything but a soldier)
So I just got the GOTY edition for Christams. If anyone wants to spend some more time in Pandora, send a message to Pty James on XBL
I got this a few months ago because I got a kmart gift card and decided to get a cheap game. Borderlands was the only one I knew of that was at least decent on the cheap shelves. Played it for maybe a few days, got bored, and haven't played it since.
I'm tempted to get this game when I have enough money Is it a proper RPG because I get kind of bored with them easily (Fallout 3, for example - great game but I stopped playing after a while)? I've heard its more of a shooter with RPG elements which sounds very appealing.
EDIT: N/m wrong topic lol

Well depends on which part do you prefer the most. The shooter elements of the game are solid enough and the ridiculous amount of weapons, grenades and other upgrades will keep you very busy. It has even less people than Fallout and most of them will just try to shoot you as soon as you get close. The thing you have to keep in mind about Borderlands is that its mainly a co-op oriented game so you better have friends to hang out with or it may just get a little boring (or challenging) out there. Plus, if you get mad at your buddy just challenge him into a duel anywhere you are.
@Joey
Well the invitation is still on foot. what level are you?

I think I'm level 14 or something.
Ok. Still sounds good but I don't have many gaming friends (which means I have ONE gaming friend who I know wouldn't have the time or interest to play Borderlands). Fail Might get it anyway
My biggest gripe is that Borderlands becomes exponentially easier the more players you have. In single-player, the game can be a fair challenge at times, even if you get some lucky drops. But add just one competent player and suddenly the two of you are rolling through stuff like you have god mode on. Add a third player and you can win blindfolded.
The game ramps up difficulty as more players are added, but not in an effective way. With the guy I usually play with, we can set the game to behave as if there are eight human players (you can do that on the PC version) and we still dominate. He never actually played the game single-player, so he doesn't believe me that it holds any real challenge at all.
any of you guys still up for playing this now rly wanna co-op it XD if your lower lvl than me ill help power lvl you lvl 41 hunter GT :HeartlessDevilN
