To everyone on the Eastern seaboard, be safe out there!
Hurricane Sandy is expected to have 2'-4' higher surges/tide than Irene. Wind is going to be bad (especially where I am on the Eastern/stronger side of the storm (90 mph predicted). Flooding will be worse than last year, power will go out (especially if the snow and ice comes, but I haven't seen that predicted yet).
Schools are already cancelled here for Mon/Tues. Coastal areas are already being evacuated. If the authorities say get out... GET OUT! Especially if you are in a low-lying coastal area.
Don't risk your safety going to the midnight release of a video game (the stores should be shut, but who knows).
Don't risk your safety playing a video game instead of evacuating.
Don't be dumb.
And, as always, plug your game system into a surge protector and unplug everything if the power goes out. Most appliances break when the power comes back on, not when it goes off. You don't want to ruin your game console and not be able to play once the power is back.
Hey thanks alot DoubleMcStab. That's not my region at all but IRRregardless people need to remember these simple things! ...calvar.....anyways yes safety and peace, I'm hoping that the snow/ice stay away, if not for the most part.
And, if you can, please let us know that you're all right.
Yale is now closed tomorrow.
This is the same school that didn't close when we got 32" of snow overnight.
They are still predicting 75 mph sustained winds with 90+ mph gusts for tomorrow night and Tuesday morning.
I'll stay safe though.
We had a tsunami warning in Hawaii last night following the earthquake in British Columbia. The energy map (below) showed it coming straight for Maui. Lots of sirens and evacuations but not much tsunami action.
Glad you're safe, stab.
Lots of crazy weather on both coasts this week i guess.
Wind already picking up... stay safe out there! We will have 50+ mph wind here for the next 24 hours or so... unless the storm slows down... then longer.
Abstergo? Damn, they launched it early hopefully nothing extreme happens on either coast. Never got to say it yet, but thanks for putting this site together Stabguy. It's fricken great for me and probably thousands of others just sleepin on this site.
This was Battery Park in Manhattan about an hour ago:
The biggest flooding won't occur until tonight at high tide (+ full moon + wind bringing all the water straight through the Long Island Sound to NYC and past CT).
I'm ready though: https://twitter.com/RyanRuggers/status/262234091817164800/photo/1
We're getting lots of winds, too. Getting very cloudy as well. Like we were near a beach. It's an odd feeling since I'm in the mid-west. >_>
HERE IT COMES!
Surprised I still have power... *knock on wood*
The wind is really picking up.
My power is still on... But I don't think that's the case for my Gamestop...
Wind has really settled down. No longer any huge gusts. I think the storm is passing... Considering driving over there, but I'm pretty sure that goes directly against what I posted in the OP of this thread...

We braved driving, but not to get to GameStop. Made it somewhere with power instead. I tried to trade in some games and buy the game around noon today, but the GameStop never even opened, so I suppose I won't be picking the game up at midnight.
Vidic and his weather machine are only delaying the inevitable. Doesn't he already know that DAZ can leak his secrets to the rest of us?
My gamestop is a bunch of lying [insert your favorite derogatory term here].
Yesterday, just over 24 hours ago, I went in to talk to them about their plans.
"If we have power, we'll be here and the launch will go as scheduled."
Guess what? You have power Gamestop... and you're not open. Not only that, but I live 10 minutes by car away. And there was only one block between my house and your store without electricity.
Do I care that you closed? No. It was probably the right thing to do.
Do I care that you blatantly lied to me yesterday? Yes. You should have just said, "We're closing." Absolutely nothing today was worse than the forecasts yesterday. In fact, we got off easy compared to forecasts...
EDIT: And to top it off... I JUST got an automated phone call from them telling me their stores are closing... I guess that's nice... if it were 5+hours ago when you closed down anyway.
I will be there when you open tomorrow, Gamestop. And it better be when you said it was going to be... Conditions are already perfectly fine here... and you have power.
</rant>
Hopefully everyone is still okay out there!
That's right. The Templars might have deeper pockets than us, but they've got no ambition, no passion.. No competitive edge! Also I am secretly Erudito.
For LisaMurphy, I'm safe.
Yup, lastnight I was going to head to my gamestop after work but the wind was just way too much. We went down to the water just to see how the tide was doing. My buddy got a free pressure-wash for his car, just had to turn it around for the tide to hit the other side. I've never seen the water as high as it was last night. At least 6 feet above average waterline. Hope everyone is comfy...Oh yea, that Statue of Munroe, very amusing.
Thank you, Cheese and Throat.
no problemo Lisa
Thank you, Cheese and Throat.
Possibly the strangest sentence ever written...
Hahahaha!
