So I've been approached by all my literature professors about pursuing at least a hobby with writing. I decided to try this out by adapting the game script for AC1 into film format, but also editing it (certain vocabulary, sentence structure, maybe adding/removing scenes, etc). Here's the first scene. It's a little off-format from the script I'm working on, but it should be good enough to read. Let me know what you guys think...

--------------------------ASSASSIN’S CREED-----------------------------

¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯¯Â

Ch. 1 - Abstergo Industries - Day 1 Morning
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

[1st person P.O.V in a blue, cloudy space. Strange echoes of a voice are heard nearby. Unrecognizable human figures run up to the viewer. They are misty and out of focus. Seemingly wearing tattered clothing. Echoing voices; difficult to understand. Right hand goes up and pushes one of them to the ground. Camera looks to the left. Left hand (excluding ring finger) shoves other beggar. The sound of heavy breathing increases along with heartbeat.]

Lucy Stillman: Warren! We've got a problem! I can't anchor him to the memory. Too much psychological trauma. He's rejecting the treatment.

Warren Vidic: Desmond, please. I need you to relax.

Lucy: Let me try and stabilize him.

Vidic: Focus. Listen to the sound of my voice. Recognize that what you're seeing is not real, just a picture of the past. It can't hurt you.

Lucy: Damn it! It's not working!

Vidic: Give it a moment, Ms. Stillman! The first time is never easy.

Lucy: We're losing him!

Vidic: That's enough, Ms. Stillman!

Lucy: We need to pull him out. Now.

Vidic: Alright, Desmond. We're going to try and bring you out now.

[WHITENESS. DESMOND MILES startles himself awake, while LUCY
STILLMAN and WARREN VIDIC step back, relieved, from the machine.]

Lucy: Are you okay?

Vidic: [Looks at Lucy sternly] I told you he'd be fine.

Desmond: Bastards!

Vidic: Now, now. I just saved your life.

Desmond: Saved my life?! You kidnapped me! Strapped me into that... thing!

Vidic: “Animus”. It's an “Animus”, Mr. Miles.

Desmond: Whatever! I don't even know you people! Why are you doing this to me? Where am I?

Vidic: If you’ll calm down, I’ll tell you.

[DESMOND looks fiercely at Vidic]

Vidic: You have information we need, Mr. Miles.

Desmond: Information? What the hell? I'm a bartender for Christsakes! What do you want me to do? Would you like a fuckin’ martini?

Vidic: We know who you are. What you are.

Desmond: [Looks puzzled, but suspicious] I don't know what you're talking about.

Vidic: Don't play coy with me. There isn't time. You're an Assassin. And whether you know it or not, you've got something that my employers want. Locked away in that head of yours. I plan on digging it up.

Desmond: But I'm not an Assassin. Not anymore.

Vidic: Yes... your file indicated as much. Something about an "escape." I have to say, that’s most fortunate for us.

Desmond: What do you want from me?

Vidic: Simple. Do as you're told. The Animus will allow us to locate what we need. Once we have it, you'll be free to go. You have my word.

Desmond: I am not going back in there!

Vidic: Then we'll induce a coma and continue our work. When we're done, you'll be left to die. Truth be told, the only reason you're still conscious is because this approach saves us time.

Desmond: You're insane!

Vidic: What will it be, Mr. Miles? Live, or die?

[DESMOND looks at the head of the machine. The curvaceous, spinal design glowing with blue energy.

Vidic: Lie down.

[DESMOND lies down on the Animus bed.]

Vidic: A wise decision.

[LUCY heads toward the foot of the Animus, logging in to the computer attached to the machine]

[DESMOND shuts his eyes with anger]

Lucy: It’ll be easier if you relaxed a bit more, Desmond.

[DESMOND opens one eye and peeks at Lucy. Scans down her body. Closes eyes. Smiles. Intro of whiteness, turns into blue and smokey with computer code and DNA strands glitching at random spaces]

Desmond: Whoa... where am I?

Vidic: You're inside the Animus.

Desmond: Which is what, exactly?

Vidic: It's a projector which renders genetic memories in three dimensions.

Desmond: “Genetic memories”?

Vidic: Hm…Seems you'll need a bit of a tutorial. Very well. Let's start simple. What is a memory, Mr. Miles?

Desmond: Umm, the recollection of a past event.

Vidic: Specific to the individual remembering the event.

Desmond: Yeah, I guess.

Vidic: What if I told you the body not only housed an individual's memories, but the memories of his or her ancestors as well? “Genetic memory”, if you will. Migration, hibernation, reproduction... How do animals know when and where to go? What to do?

Desmond: That's just animal instinct, isn’t it?

Vidic: Now you're arguing semantics. Whatever you call it. These creatures hold knowledge we will never truly know without first-hand experience. I've spent the last thirty years trying to understand why.

[DNA strand is shown on screen spinning.]

Vidic: Our DNA functions as an archive. It contains genetic instructions passed down from previous generations, but it also stores memories. The memories of our ancestors, Mr. Miles.

Desmond: And the Animus lets you decode and read these DNA memories?

Vidic: Precisely.

Lucy: But there's a problem.

[Horizontal see-through screen appears with a long strand of genetic code]

Lucy: This is the specific memory we're trying to access.

[Scrolls to the right to a specific strand]

Lucy: Unfortunately, when we try to access the memory, your mind withdraws from it, keeping us from opening it up. You lack the confidence to step into your ancestor's body. That's what happened earlier. You got knocked out of the memory and pushed back into a more stable state.

Desmond: Why?

Lucy: It's your subconscious. It's resisting our programs. We found similar reactions among patients who undergo hypnosis to relive traumatic events of their past. They can't jump directly into the specific memory. You need to be eased in gradually. Even then, there can be…problems.

Desmond: So how do we fix it?

Lucy: We find a memory you can synchronize with. Then we move forward from there. Don’t worry, you'll get used to it.

[Scrolls to the left and selects a strand]

Lucy: This is the closest we can get, so it's where we'll have to start. I'm uploading the tutorial program now. Good luck, Desmond.

I left that specific part out on purpose. My goal was to make it seem like a random memory was being jumbled. Like I said, not everything will make it. I've even taken out a few main assassinations. As of now, I'm about to refine Desmond's 2nd Animus trip.

Toboscus reference! I actually put that the first time, but then realized that'll be trademarked (or whichever is the correct legal term for a phrase) in about 5 years. Big smile

I've been meaning to tell you guys about a new AC1 resource and this seems like as good a place as any. Axel7174 recently uploaded a game transcript to GameFAQs. It covers the whole game except for Investigations and appears to be quite accurate.

If you're going to be adapting the whole script, Axel's would be a good starting point. At least it would save you the trouble of transcribing the dialogue yourself.

You won't even feel the blade.

Thanks stab! When I looked up stuff like this, I hadn't come across any actual game script-to-screenplay posts. I didn't want to do anything hundreds have done before. The only things I noticed were fan fiction or the actual game script copied and pasted. I was thinking of a way to implement the investigations, though, but am having a hard time finding scripts for them. Anyone have any ideas?

I'd like to do the entire thing myself and not just copy something and claim it as my own. I'd like to see what a movie adaptation would be like from a real fan of the original. Big smile

After giving it more thought, I think I should put Al Mualim's words in at the intro, since they were trying to open that memory right when you get the apple.

What i think would be interesting, but might not turn out good on paper, is telling Desmond's feelings and thoughts as he controls his ancestor, Altair. I mean if you jumped off a huge cathedral and landed in a haystack unharmed, wouldn't you just be like 'Whoa...'

Wait... you've seen the original script posted somewhere on the internet? All I've seen are transcripts made by fans. Though none were as thorough as this latest one by Axel7174.

I was thinking of a way to implement the investigations, though, but am having a hard time finding scripts for them.

The older script by sarranduin included Investigations but it cuts off in the middle of Memory Block 4. You could transcribe the others yourself from Mmac2797's video walkthrough, which shows all the dialogue from Investigations.

You won't even feel the blade.

That's a good idea. I'll see what I can do. I thought of something like this at least during Solomon's Temple (that's done, by the way) but couldn't make it work without sounding like Keanu Reaves was narrating. Laughing out loud

stabguy wrote:

Obviously I can't say I've seen the original script, but there are script sites online for games, movies, etc that people actually take the time to document every sentence and format it exactly as it's said, much like the GameFAQs one you linked earlier.

Thanks a lot! I can maybe just use sarranduin's source and not put very many of them in, since putting too much info into a film is never a good idea. Unless I was able to make a director's cut. Wink

@Jack

Well I don't mean like
"Altair was thrown off the building, Desmond: Holy shit!"

No, more like.

"Al Mualim drew his knife and stabbed Altar with it, Desmond twitched in the Animus"

Of course a few words from Desmond's mind would be interesting, just not very often

A book would be better since you could "show" the charecter's emotions better than how you are in this movie. Oh awell, I can't argue with 3d IMAX Gore/Violence/Assassins

I'm in for a movie, books have already being published and they didn't really add anything mayor to the central videogame canon.

As long as they don't pull any Prince of Persia-Disney twist on it I'm alright (silly of me saying it consider the story centers on the life of a serial murderer assassin Oups). THEY GAVE THE PRINCE A NAME!?!?! FOR WHAT? JUST SO A TEENAGER HAD A NAME TO WRITE ON HER NOTEBOOK INSTEAD OF "THE PRINCE"?

Joey - Is this just for fun or is this something you're seriously thinking about completing and pitching as a book/movie?
