So we know that Ubisoft has already planned an ending for the beloved franchise, and I think that (aside from AC:Comet) Unity will be one of 3 of the final AC games that will be made. I also read somewhere that we should keep an eye out for Egypt as a possible location, among others that I can't remember.
I think Unity is one of 3 final games mainly for three reasons:
1. Ezio had a trilogy and was a huge succes
2. The Kenway line has had only two games, but depending on what you believe about Comet, it could very well be the third installment in the Kenway story despite the fact that we won't be playing as Edward, Haytham or Connor, as well as giving more information about Aveline and possibly Adewale. It counts as the third installment to me if this is the case.
3. I can't see the modern-day story continuing for any more than three games, and if it does I'm sure I'ts going to be dreadful.
On a side note I'm pumped for Unity simply because it's "returning AC to it's roots", which I hope means that you can have ALL the freedom that AC1 had. Even if the new combat system is a bit tedious, I can live with that knowing that I can upgrade, customize and personalize my assassin. Besides, genocide shouldn't be in an assassin's repetoir (despite Ezio being death in dancing shoes).
All in all, I'm very pumped for this one. Much more than AC3 because of the same reasons I was for AC3. New engine, new assassin, new mechanics.
And for the love of TWCB, give me back my shortblade!
Ubisoft hasn't confirmed Comet yet, if it even exists. If it was happening, it should've been at E3, or at least been confirmed to be released this year recently. It may not even be a game. We shouldn't assume anything until it's confirmed.
I'm actually starting to doubt Comet as well. They would have given us some tiny bit of information by now. The rumor seemed credible to me though.
Juno's part in the modern story won't continue for more than a few more games, definitely, but that doesn't mean an ending is necessary.
They've planned out how that modern arc will end, and they have plans for new and different places to take the story from there, and the eternal struggle of templars and assassins really does support an infinite continuity.
nothing related to the story will ever force them to end the series. it will end because of business reasons, or not at all. (ie if the series stops selling well and no amount of yearlong breaks or restructuring makes it sell well again)
Well, if they continue making AC games (yearly or not) I do hope it's just one protagonist per title. I did enjoy how they built on ezio, even though he had a little too many weapons and tools and seeing consecutive assassins from one immediate family line to the next is pretty cool, but at this point I want to explore egypt, china, maybe even northern canada (Woo!) and I'd rather have 10 more games with 10 different assassins in 10 different locations as opposed to 10 more games with 3-4 different assassins in 5 or 6 locations.
Basically I'm just being picky, but I know (as do most THB members) that whatever they do, I'll buy these games until they're finished making them, but if my 2 cents can influence anything for these games at all, I'll express it. I want to keep buying AC games and saying to myself "I'm so glad I bought this, it's exactly what I was hoping for".
Regarding the modern story arc, if they end it and keep the modern concept alive then I hope it's through Initiates. Less time working on it in-game means more time working on the time period at hand for each title. Maybe keep the clues and hidden glyphs coming in each game to be uncovered and analyzed using Initiates.
yeah, that'd be wicked! Do that Ubi!
