Psyched. Though I can't get it since I have no Vita.
So Connor is a mixed race of Native American and British, now this new Assassin is a mix between French and African. I have a feeling Ubisoft is just trying to please everyone.
Or just create characters with interesting backstories... besides, since it's a game about america in it's infancy, you'd be hard-pressed to never see anyone of mixed nationality. America is made up of immigrants.
I know, but JEEZE. At least it's a female. That out to be fun.
The fact that she's female seems to be a political correctness move too. She looks pretty cool though and I'm glad they've finally introduced a female assassin.
I strongly considered buying a PS Vita when it was released but haven't even thought about it since. I seems to have been forgotten, much like the PSP and PS Move.
Excellent. I really want to find out how Ubisoft tackles the issues of slavery and racism.
According to the article, she's a woman of means with a loving mother. So she's not a slave, though it seems she will encounter slavery and take issue with it.
Plenty of people have gotten pissed off about this because of how Alex Hutchinson explained that they didn't think it would be realistic for a woman to be the main character of AC3. Some people are saying this is an about-face, but I don't really think so.
If you reskinned Connor's story, but with a woman, it would make no sense. Famous generals taking battle advice from a woman, a NATIVE woman no less? Remember what the colonists usually did to native women.
Liberation makes a lot more sense. She's a wealthy woman, which gives her influence with men, and she's not actually involved in talks with big famous generals who would probably still consider her beneath them. They never said "At no time or place during this era could there EVER be an important female Assassin.".
It just didn't work for the plot of AC3.
I talked to a female fan of AC and she and I both think it would be odd for Desmond to be put into a virtual female body. That's why we think it wouldn't work for Desmond's story. But this is just a spin off, basically, so I'm all for it.
I think Darby McDevitt said that it would be weird for Desmond, but that it was definitely possible. They'd have to write some dialogue about the weirdness, yeah, but I don't see it being the biggest problem in the world. It is definitely a factor though, yeah.
I think Darby McDevitt said
Darby said a lot of things.
"I know! I'll put in a flower picking scene! That's what we need!"
Irregardless of your feelings on that scene, he wasnt lyin, was he? I liked that mission, actually.
Waitaminute...if the co-op still exists for AC3...could we be playing as Connor and Aveline?
Highly doubt.
I hope that both will cross paths with each other in their respective games. Cameos, anyone?
it was confirmed they do as some point in a interview cant find the link tho >.<
"The biggest tease came in the form of a news of a potential crossover with the console version of the game. Capel mentions Aveline will encounter Connor during her story, but wouldn’t comment on it any further."

Hellz yeah.
*Pat on the back*
Good job, Joey. You finally found the right thread!
("finally" does a marvelous job of turning an otherwise innocent statement into a stingy one )
When I first posted it, I actually didn't know we had this thread! I have to actually search for most things to check if they exist yet. Should've done it for this.
why does looting take so long in these games?! ugh...
wow, looks pretty good graphically as well as functionally. The touch controls seem to work. I understand why they need to use them, but those are never my cup of tea.
And apparently she's capable of wrestling with alligators...
...definitely didn't see that comin'...
I remember one time in chat (one of the first official stabby chats) we were discussing how water hasn't been a danger since AC1. That's when I made the suggestion that there should be crocodile-infested water (alligator, crocodile, same thing).

Maybe they were spying!
The most disappointing thing about the water is that it isn't woven into the narrative and stealth missions. Sure, you can hide under the surface and sneak up on boats, but I want to expand on that area a bit. I sort of hope that Ezio would pop up the water like Jason from Friday the 13th and started assassinating random Borgia guards.
A guy can dream, too.
I recall plenty of missions where you're skulking around in the water and doing drop kills on guards from it. Water is used in the narrative in all the ways it makes sense imo.
I actually kind of miss fearing the water. I'm probably the only one here, but I liked having a tiny bit of stress when I was making my way through the docks in Acre or collecting flags over the canal in Damascus. It made me feel more human instead of a godlike master of weapons. I'm not saying they should make water an instant-kill area, but I think there should be something like that back.
Maybe that's what the deep snow is taking place of, now that I think about it. Hopefully it gives me the same feeling.
Fear of water my ass. A master assassin is capable of leaping from a 3 story building without breaking his neck can't get any swimming lessons from Masyaf? I can pooey on that!
That was narratively explained as an animus gkitch, which really happened due to them just not finishing the swimming mechanics in time for ship. Yeah, Joey, I like the idea of deep snow as a mild hazard. maybe cold water could kill?
Yeah anything like that to make me feel more vulnerable. When I have to watch my step in certain areas, I feel like there's an actual risk. I like that.
I'd be OK with cold water just making you move slower while in it and for a few seconds after getting out of it. Looking at some videos that show cold environments, I can understand how people could complain about it. There's quite a bit of water, and the free-running system can be dodgy if you don't know exactly how it works. If there IS a new game+, I would love to see harsher hazard penalties everywhere!
If Connor went into the cold water (assuming it's during winter-y weather), he'd freeze to death in a few minutes unless he got out of there quick. Maybe if you had to move in it, you'd be momentarily slowed as you got out, even if there isn't deep snow. Another reason to avoid areas like that.
Reason you don't die: Animus. I'm just saying, I can see how they would be worried about players being frustrated with it, and hence they may not make it kill you. Some sort of acnowledgement that the watery path is not the best in cold conditions would be really cool, though.
What really bugs me about both Liberation and AC3 is the close grip when hanging. That makes a muscle-up (pulling yourself up above the branch) much harder.
Sorry, but what exactly does that mean? I'm in and out of this forum and generally only in the sections about upcoming games, so I don't think I've heard those terms much.
EDIT: If you're saying that when Connor grabs onto a ledge from a jump, he does it lower down than in previous games, that may be true, but it also seems like the time to pull yourself up is greatly decreased from previous games.
No, I mean his hands are closer when he's hanging from a beam. You know, when you're on a beam and you press . That. The hands are right next to eachother, which makes it a tad harder to pull up and get above the beam.
Can you post a video that shows that? Since they mocapped real climbers I would hope that everything he does is at least slightly feasible. Its possible that the animation doe not transition to a wider grip til you actualy pull up. A wider grip migt be worse for just hanging.
Just watch any of the AC3 demos, Calvar. You could do that in the other games, too, but Connor seems to somehow prefer the closer proximity. Which is a bit odd, since it WOULD make it harder to pull up. The weight has to be evenly distributed in a wider angle to be the most effective.
Actually, I recall watching a parkour tutorial video, and they used a close grip. I just mimed it in the air right now, and I think it's actually easier, though you wouldn't think so.
I think it's legit.
EDIT: yeah, wider grips might have more even distribution, but to pull yourself directly up and over you don't want to evenly distribute, that puts you off balance.
It's supposed to be one smooth, powerful motion, so having hands closer together gives you more actual power.
If you have a wide grip, you just pull yourself up so your torso is peeking out, then you have to slide your legs over. With a close one, you pull straight up and tuck your feet over with your legs bent.
You're thinking of arms all the way out. I'm talking about as wide as your torso. Too much length will make it impossible obviously.
Yes, I know what you're talking about. Mime it with your hands. It feels like it's less awkward to pull up with a closer grip, and you need thrust more than you need even distribution for a pull-up.
But anyways, we know it works because they mo-capped the people actually doing these actions.
Maybe I'm wrong but it makes physical sense to me.
It's not that it can't be done, it's just that it isn't the most effective way. Here's a video. First clip is the normal muscle up. Third clip is the close grip. Notice how he uses a much larger kick from the legs (a 'kip'). That's because it's harder.
I feel as though if you're not just hanging on a bad, and you have something to brace your legs on, a close grip would be better.
But I get it.
It seems like it's negligible if you have the kind of ridiculous upper body strength and perfect build our assassins seem to. : P
I hope the animation changes if you're just holding onto a bar or jutting object.
Yeah, it's nitpicky, I know.
I sort of hope that Ezio would pop up the water like Jason from Friday the 13th and started assassinating random Borgia guards.
Funny you should mention that, that was an idea I had for a "special situation kill" (for a possible F13 game).

But back on topic, it would be nice if cold water does drain health or something.
