(Also on the AC-maps forums)
So this is it, I've finally finished my first playthrough (blew me away, by the way) and I can finally get started on the Household Weapons playthrough.
Some basic rules:
Weapons: Broom, Fishing rod, Farmer's Hoe, Violin (during carnival), and if none of these is available, fists w/ cestus(only when previously mentioned weapons are completely unavailable)
Restrictions: Disarming is not allowed. However, in the beginning, Vieri's thugs carry brooms in fights against you, and I will see if I can pick them up during a fight after knocking one out.
I shall do no side missions, collect codex pages, lower notoriety, or wear any capes that lower notoriety.
Finally, I will have to see if I can somehow get rid of my required common sword and replace it with a broom so I don't lose it so easily.
I really can't think of anything else. This is just for fun, but I'll be recording my sessions and uploading at least a montage of the gameplay to youtube for viewing, if not my entire playthrough.
By the way, if anyone can think of a better name for the playthrough, please share, because I'm not sure the name I chose fits very well
Update/Edit: I forgot that one can steal hoes from farmers, so it has been added to the list. Secondly, I shall be starting my playthrough tonight, so expect a video on youtube by tomorrow or the day after. Also, I won't film the desmond parts, because there are no brooms in abstergo or in the assassin hideout.
If you need help with the fist fighting, I'm always here
Thanks FLAE, I surely will. So, what were you saying about grab and throw not being 2x as powerful as a punch anymore?
By the way, if anyone can think of a better name for the playthrough, please share, because I'm not sure the name I chose fits very well
Well, since the main weapon is a broom, how about "Cleaning House?"
Ha, no thanks FLAE.
Ideas for Names:
"Eagle's Chores"
"Eagle's Errands"
"Tools of the Trade"
"Improvisation"
That's all I got.
The other day during Eagle's Bruise a brute picked up a violin and started wailing on me until I disarmed him. Then while punching him he picked it back up and started wailing on me again until I knocked him the f out.
Be warned, red. You're not the only one who can improvise.
The violin is the weirdest weapon on the game, it sound like a sword but the animation are like a mace.
And it's a violin.
OK, so since you can't pick up brooms in the beginning, I tried to defeat all of the guards which attack you (2 brutes and infinite captains) barehanded. It was going great, but both brutes were still alive. Suddenly, I somehow disarm a brute. Now normally, this would only make me mad, because I'm trying to go completely weaponless. But the thing is YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO DISARM!!! And so I take his axe, and kill him. This time, I try to disarm the other brute, works as well, kill him and another guard with his big sword, and then go the rest of the way weaponless. I eventually managed to do it, but I had to lead the guards into someplace where the infinitely re-spawning captains couldn't attack me.
I'll post a video soon.
Otherwise, fists only is going great, I haven't really encountered much else of difficulty. When exactly do you gain the ability to pick up a broom (lol)? Edit: Sequence 3, thanks Asaic for the FAQ.

That's what it's there for.

Red if you're quick enough you don't even need to move the fight
Here's the trick: Get everybody down to 1 punch and then just knock everyone out within a minute. The auto-respawn won't be able to pick up on it in time.
I'm curious about the sudden disarm though. I had a similar incident with a hidden blade assassination where none existed yet (see the glitches topic). Did Ubi do a crap job at preventing Ezio from doing things he couldn't do until the future?
Asaic this may screw up you're whole FAQ...
"Disarm: Learned in MB5--"
"--NO ITS NOT I DID IT IN MB1 YOU'RE WRONG!!!"
It'll happen any day now...

It's just a bug. I'm not going to change the move list just to accommodate a random anomaly.
No, I tested this, the disarm is possible the entire game. Works 100% of the time I tested it, which would be on.. 8 brutes. Twice on the two brutes at the execution and then twice more at the two brutes guarding Uberto. So Asaic, you might need to record it somewhere, if not on the skills list.

As per my response in the main FAQ topic, I'm going to look further into it. I have a theory about why it's working this way.
Where are the other two Brutes you're referring to? Is this in S2M3? Any time I'm seen by them, the mission fails.
After you kill Uberto, they attack you. You are instantly exposed after the assassination of Uberto.

You're not automatically exposed after killing Uberto. After the cutscene, regular guards are spawned and come towards you. After a couple seconds the social status indicator fills and they spot you and the battle triggers. You can't avoid the detection, but you can be half way up the wall by the time it happens. You're not supposed to just stand there like a deer in headlights.
As the Brutes were outside and around the corner when you perform the assassination, I didn't realize the game reset their position. Sure enough, you can fight them here. I don't see why you'd want to, though.
To test out disarming in the beginning of the game.
