Also Gale's reaction to the whole PeetaxKatniss ordeal.

You know how they combine couple's names like "Brangelina" and "Bennifer"? Here Josh Hutcherson (who played Peeta Mellark) poses with the craziest sign created by Hunger Games fans:

Andy Richter's comment: "At least it wasn't Kat-Pee."

Things will not calm down, Daniel Jackson. They will in fact calm up

Yesterday, I started reading The Hunger Games. I realized it was a completely unrealistic portrayal of the future of North America when they were still using Imperial units of measurement.

So I finished the books today.

It was rather... unsatisfying. And I don't like Katniss. Yeah, you read that correctly, I don't like Katniss. She's very likable in the first book, but after that it all goes downhill and she's doing this whole teen-drama thing that I just have no patience for, plus it leads to most of the crap that happens
It took me way too long to realize that 'panem' actually means 'bread'. The whole 'Panem et circenses' was heavily foreshadowed, with people getting names like Seneca and Cato, the capitol called Bread organizing Games.
Only I don't understand why this motif was so heavily emphasized. Because the series' main point seemed to be the dystopian nature of it all. How there are no good sides in the war. The cruelty of it.
Also,

why the FUCK did Katniss vote for another Games. She comments on Gale saying: "we fight using their rulebook" or something like that as if it's weird and bad, or at least I got that vibe. But she plays by the same rulebook.

In closing, I would like to say that Katniss acts like a little bitch in safety and has the courage of a lion in battle. That's weird.

I, too, was very unsatisfied with the end of the series.

Book 1 was good.
Book 2 was my favorite, I think.
Book 3 was extremely tedious... You know what's going to happen and it takes sooo loooonnngg to get there.

I agree with Katniss being extremely unlikable, at least to me. I think my favorite characters in the series were Haymitch, Finnick, Beetee, and Cinna.

So has anyone seen the second movie yet? The first movie got me to read the books, but it took a while. I borrowed a Kindle (electronic book) from a friend and was reading the first book on and off, so it took around a year. By the time I finished I was so impressed I went on to the second, which took me only about two weeks. Unfortunately the third wasn't on there, but that's okay. Now I want to rewatch the movie.

Ever wonder how you would fair in the games? Well now heres your chance.

May the odds be in your favor.

I already know my odds are slim. A little while ago I did some rpg fighting with foam padded weapons. I haven't done that much in a while, so about everyone else triumphed over me. We also did a fighting game that reminded me of The Hunger Games. All the weapons were thrown in the middle and everyone stood around in a circle until the game officially started. Utter chaos follows.

Second movie sticks pretty well with the books and adds in some auxiliary things with Plutarch and Snow that really just feels nice. Also, they eliminate some of Katniss's more stupid moments.

But they left out one HUGE moment, that was very upsetting to me. Probably one of the most important things to happen in the second book....

When, at the ball, Plutarch shows Katniss his disappearing Mockingjay pocketwatch.
1 - It foreshadows that the games this year is a clock.
2 - It shows that he's on her side... If you hadn't read the books that might come out of left field at the end when he turns out good.
3 - It foreshadows the high level of secret support she has in the capital.

I agree with all points, but I found them cutting the pair in the woods talking about District 13 possibly being around more important that they cut. A friend of mine thought Katniss was an idiot for not putting together Plutarch's watch and the Tick-Tock Tick-Tock sooner.

Resisting. Urge. To. Read. Spoilers.

Another thing. The actor who played Plutarch Heavensbee, Philip Seymour Hoffman died recently.

Agreed. That was the other of the two major things they left out of the second movie (that I can recall, it's been a while. Read them all after the first movie).

Your friend is right.

Katniss is an idiot, and continues to be all the way to the end. She's such an unlikable character to me because of things like that.

Then never ever ever read Scott Westerfeld's quartet Uglies-Pretties-Specials-Extras. That main character makes Katniss look like a genius. By the end of the first book I was rooting for the main villain because I was so sick of the main character's noncommittal and absolutely frustrating decision making process (or lack thereof). Then, the next two books made me hate the main character (and by contrast root for the villain) even more. Pity the villain lost...

I mean at least Clary in the Mortal Instruments gets a little bit smarter with each book (only read the first 3 so far).

Well, mine really has a spoiler for a diff book series and a comment on the previous spoiler. So, I kept the spoiler tags in case you didn't want to be vaguely spoiled by the spoiler that I do indeed refer to.

Good points, but

I can see why they left out hints of Plutarch being on the good side. They wanted it to come as a surprise to anyone who didn't read the books (also a good idea to show things from another point of view instead of always from Katniss's). It's also understandable that they had to sacrifice any mention of district 13 until the end. Although it was nice when they passed through the tunnel on the train and for a brief moment saw the mockingjay picture on the wall. I'm really glad they had a few things I hoped they'd keep in the movie, like the glowing coal outfits Katniss and Peeta wore, and of course the mockingjay outfit, that was awesome.
