Please tell me it's working for some of you. Apparently, Ubisoft doesn't fully understand the fact that Android apps should run on all devices with the same Android system, regardless of device. (Or maybe I'm wrong here).

Here is the official list of supported devices (as of time of posting):

iOs

  • iPad 2,3,4
  • iPad mini

Android

  • Google Nexus 7
  • Google Nexus 7 (2013)
  • Google Nexus 10
  • Galaxy Note 10.1 N8010
  • Sony Xperia Tablet Z
  • Asus Transformer TF700 Pad Infinity
  • Samsung P3100 Galaxy Tab 2
  • Samsung GT-P5110 Galaxy Tab 2 10.1
  • Asus Transformer Prime TF201

However, even people with those devices have been having trouble getting it to work.

Also, for reference, there are other versions updates "in the works" to bring support to other devices.

There is a work around that has been used with some success if you don't have one of the above Android tablets.
1 - Download the .apk and .obb files (http://wiiare.in/12141-assassins-creed-4-companion-app-fur-androidios/)
2 - Move the .obb file to your Android/obb/ folder so it should be 'Android/obb/com.ubisoft.assassin.blackflag'
3 - Install the program via .apk

If you don't move the .obb to the correct folder, you will get a "download failed because you may not have purchased this app from the android market" error.

Some people, myself included, when using the above protocol are able to download the program to their device but, on opening, only get the splash page then black and nothing happens.

Other people have had success.

Device information on the successes and failures is sparse.

Most of the info in this thread comes from: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php/803234-Companion-App

For reference:
Sideloading did not work for me (gave just the splash screen then nothing) on both my Android devices:
- LG Lucid (smartphone) running 4.0.4
- Hisense Sero 7 Pro (tablet) running 4.2.1
Both fully up to date.

Maybe it will work for someone here.

Had the same thing as McStab on my S3. Havent tested my Thrive, but probably the same thing will happen there.

Yeah. The GS3 is almost the same as the GT2, which is supported. It's not surprising that the phone doesn't work though, as they've stated only tablets to start.

I've played with the companion app on the iPad. The thing it is most useful for is the treasure maps, so you don't have to pause/unpause a whole lot to look at them.

I imagine it would be really cool to turn off the mini-map in game and only use the companion app's map... so when you want to see where you are, you literally have to look down at a map.

This is a fantastic way to earn money in the game, btw. Easier than going into your cabin to lead your fleet... same results though. Kenway's Fleet gets you a metric shit-tonne of Reales for no real work.

I can 100% vouch for this. Near the middle-ish-end-ish when you unlock Routes that give you upward of 5K it gets ridiculous.

I'm on routes with just 1K... and BOOM! 10K overnight for doing nothing.

I don't remember the Mediterranean Defense or whatever AC3's cockamamy attempt was being this fruitful...

I almost forgot!

Although Treasure Maps are the most useful thing in game, and accessing Kenway's Fleet on the go is great for making money in game... in honesty, the BEST thing this is for is for Database Entries, present day emails and hacked files... etc...

It's nice to not have to sit in front of the xbox to read all the database entries. Have them pop up on screen, build a few up, and sit back on the couch/bed with the companion app to read the database.

I absolutely hate Kenway's fleet. How do I make it more fun?

I think it would suck to do in game... because you waste so much time watching "battles" when you could be out on the deck having them.

I think it's fun on the companion app, because, well, what else are you going to do on the commercials of a tv show?

I just spam the fire barrels in each battle, then help DAZ speed his fleet up, then send my ships out on missions to get me money. I just rush through it. Make it more fun by buying more docks and seeing if you can take more powerful ships on the open sea for your fleet. I once took on 3 man o' wars at once (2 Spanish battling a British) and almost died, but it was fun and it felt rewarding sending them out on their first missions. I guess just think of it that way and it'll feel more fun?

Damn. It sucks that it's a UPLAY account thing but it's STILL console specific as far as linking with friends go... No Xbox friends = no way to earn fire barrels... Just have to slog through each battle...

You also earn small amounts of Fire Barrels by completing Ship Battles. Some Ship Battles randomly drop them at the end.

Right now I only have a final Treasure Map to get from Fleet, and I need to unlock the final location.
This will put me at 100% Sync and 100% Abstergo Challenges.
Then I need to Reach 55 in MP and play every mode once, use every ranged weapon once and use every ability once.

- 100% Sync
- 100% Abstergo Challenges
- Platinum/1000g

SOOOOON

Well, as I told Double McCheesyStab, my Companion app went haywire today. I was in the process of sending out some of my ships on trade routes when the app froze. It then kept opening and closing itself until I finally got it to stop. I quit out of the app and re-started it to send my ships on their way, but I "was accessing Kenway's Fleet from another device" so this was locked to me. Apparently accessing the Fleet from the device you're accessing it from isn't allowed.

I figured it was a glitch in the old matrix and re-started the phone. Same problem. Finally I deleted the app and re-installed it and...voila! My ships were sent on their way. All is good now, right? Wrong. I'm only on Memory Sequence 6. I've collected all 19 of the messages in bottles

Spoiler: Highlight to view
and yes, I know there's a 20th, but keep reading before you start thinking to yourself, "there's more than 19!"

Since the re-installation ended up with every single Animus entry being marked as unread, I went back in to get those exclamation points off my screen. Well, when I get to the letters, I find that I apparently only have 1, 3-19, no 2. Then, worse, I click on #19 and

Spoiler: Highlight to view
it's actually the letter for #20, which I clearly have never collected yet

What the hell, Companion app?

Slowly, but surely, the job gets done.

Maybe they should rename the Companion App "Spoiler Alert!"

Also, I'm not going to update the OP, but I believe a lot more devices are now supported, including the iPhone and several other Android devices.

One more question for you guys. Did anyone else have problems with the in-game experience not recognizing what you'd done with Kenway's Fleet on the app? I've basically run through all the trading routes (almost all of them on my phone) and when I went to check the Abstergo Challenges, saw that I had only sent out 2/25 ships on trading missions through Kenway's Fleet.

This is well after the app and console have been synced up together. Short of sending my ships out on the missions in-game, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Slowly, but surely, the job gets done.

The Watch Dogs companion app (ctOS) works beautifully on my phone...

There's no reason the AC4 companion app shouldn't also work, right? Wrong. Still not compatible.

I give chances of it ever working on my phone being <0% at this point. Bummer too, because when I got it to work on a loner iPad I liked it very much.

Interesting. I always thought iPads were incapable of feelings. Apparently I was wrong and you stumbled upon one that doesn't like the company of others.
